  • This documentary tells the story of one of the great cars, and one of the world's most famous car makers - Jaguar. In 1961, Jaguar set out to capture the world market with the legendary XKE or E-Type Jag. The Jaguar E-Type stole car lovers' hearts and is still considered to be one of the most romantic roadsters ever produced.
The Jaguar Company actually got its start 40 years earlier in Lancashire, England, as the Swallow Sidecar Company. Within five years, the company branched out into automobile body manufacturing and all models began with S.S. for Swallow Sidecar. But as World War II came to an end, “SS” had a sinister connotation. This unique car company needed an exceptional name, and Jaguar Cars Limited found one in the name of a wild breed of jungle cats. In 1961 they introduced a car that was as exotic as their name - the E-Type Jaguar. It became a vibrant symbol of the Swinging Sixties (1960s). Jaguar tumbled from this lofty perch as its quality and drive for innovation vanished. Only after being rescued by doting Ford Motor Company in 1989-1990, and then sent packing - sold to India's Tata Motors Ltd. in 2008, the Jaguar “Cat” is once again leaped ahead and took its place as a leader in the automotive jungle. #luxurycars #Britishcars #jaguaretype #jaguarcar #indiatatamotors #sportscar

Having owned two 67's, early and late, having 10" added length for highway cruise, there has been no more beautiful car ever produced. As our life winds down, our memories carry us with a smile.

One of my uncles has owned a 1993 Jaguar XJ6 sedan. It worked very well for him. I haven't heard about any serious problems with the car. It was very reliable for him.

I always enjoy the Great Cars videos. One of my first model cars as a pre-teen was an XK-E. Always liked them. My family owned a Triumph TR--3 and then a TR-4 that I got to drive as a Senior in high school. I think that the Jags were beyond my parents financial ability or I am sure my step-father would have owned one.

    I am an unabashed Jaguar lover and owner. From the `67 E-type, a 1988 XJ6 (XJ40), 1995 XJS 6.0 2+ convertible and my daily driver a Sapphire blue 1995 XJ12 SWB 6.0 Saloon.

There's at least one reason you should own a Jaguar so you can say: "alright (honey if you're married), I'll go and warm up the Jag. How cool it sounds!

My father had 4 of them. 2 E's one with 3 carbs and the other with 2 carbs. A 3.8S and a mark 10. But my favorite story is at Green valley race way back in the early 60's. A ratty Jag XKE was ahead of a Corvette in the race and on the straight the vet saw it opportunity and floored it. The vet swug out into clean air and the front end came up and it hit the wall. Boom!. It was about a 63 vet that wasn't aero dynamic. It was too funny

I note they don't mention Jaguar is now owned by an Indian Company. Jaguar should change its name to Tiger.

with each passing year these three letters keep popping up in regards to some of the parts: NLA.

Benz left the race. They asked jag to do the same. The British felt it was better to run around dead bodies in a lone competition. Wonder why there not relevant today in the same race?

    • @branon6565

nihl hinz....I guarantee those dead bodies didn't mind if Jag continued runnin the race, cuz they were fucking dead....who gives a shit about Le Mans anymore really? we legal U.S. citizen race fans don't give two fuzzy shits about it, to be honest....

Stopping the race would have led to the huge crowds leaving. This would have meant that the dead/dying/injured would have no chance of getting to hospital as all the surrounding roads would have been clogged with the crowd returning home.

The crash took place at 6.26pm, Mercedes did not pull out of the race until 1.45am, at a time when spectators were noticing that their brake lights were coming on earlier and earlier at the end of the Mulsanne Straight as their inferior brakes were starting to fade.Norman Dewis has stated that they cleared out their pits by the end of the race and he went to see them the following morning and found that they had cleared off from the hotel as well.
How can you be relevant today in the same race if you do not enter ! They came back in the late 80's , proved what they had to prove and retired again.

Jaguar is shit, 1961 E-Types ad campaign you can see how the car is slippin` and slidin` from side to side, dangerous car. Suspension may be derived from 1865 carts. Non efficient Engine
like the horrible Rolls Royce a greasy car ,full of unnecessary luxe details . Proof is that all english brands dissapeared . British nordic invasion`s people you were not born to design or build cars. You must need a reflection of your own fears.

The e type debuted Jaguars coveted independent rear suspension which was used in some form or another until 2006. IRS in 1961 when the competition was still using solid axles on leaf springs along with the dohc xk engine was ahead of its time
