  • In my last two days in Malaysia I was able to enjoy the best gastronomy on the Island of Penang and the urban art of its capital George Town, since Penang is considered the gastronomic capital of Malaysia and one of the nerve centers of art. urban.
I started my visit in the China Town neighborhood, where in addition to being my hotel, the vast majority of things to see in Penang are also concentrated. Breakfast already gave me a sample of the exquisite flavor that I was going to find on the island with a spectacular apple pie and excellent coffee. With charged batteries I went to the Poh Hock Seah temple that belonged to one of the Chinese clans banned by the George Town authorities. On the same street is another of the most spectacular temples in the city such as the Yap Kongsi. In the same area, I immersed myself in a series of streets full of murals that could be divided into periods, the first of which is when the George Town City Council commissioned a series of works of art made of metal from the artist Tang Mun Kian. to revitalize the city. the city. In a second phase, the Lithuanian artist Ernest Zacharevic was commissioned to create murals with elements such as bicycles, swings or motorbikes, which are the most sought after by tourists because they can also be interacted with. To complete the morning I visited the most famous temple in China Town, the Khoo Kongsi. To eat I went to Little India, which is next to Chinatown and has some curious temples. In the afternoon I went to the docks, here they are called Jettys, to visit the Chewy Jetty, a neighborhood of houseboats. From there I went to colonial Penang, where there are some buildings that make it very clear that the British founded this city. To complete the day, have dinner at a pizzeria with a spectacular meal.
The second and last day I climbed Penang Hill, the highest point on the entire island, where the UNESCO-listed biosphere reserve The Habitat is located. After walking for a couple of hours, I made my way to the largest temple in Southeast Asia, the impressive Kek Lok Si Temple, a must-see in Penang.
