That trick about parenting the position attribute of transform to the anchor point is a life saver, I was literally like, "wonder how he's going to get over the fact that the transform property just puts an anchor point somewhere" haha, thanks so much for sharing that.
Yay! More Jake in my life is always welcomed. Except that time you showed up in my driveway wearing a suit made of pancakes and waffles intricately sewn together. As beautiful as it was, I believe I made myself clear that day re: my feelings on food clothing. Billy and the kids would love to see you - feel free to stop by. But gods help me, if you're wearing food again... let's just say I keep the shotgun loaded and within reach at all times (if I'm wearing my extend-grabber tool). Having said that, YAY to this series! Thank you for taking the time to educate us unwashed masses.
thats so useful! i used to precomp them multiple times to be able to move objects around which needed multiple scale or position movements. game changer!
Hi Jake, I'm a beginner in After Effects, i just recently watched your skillshare course on After Effects for beginners. I see you really know your stuff. But im really amazed at how much detailed stuff you know, like how do you know so much and how some times to manipulate certain effects to get what you want?. How many hours do i need to put in to become good at motion.Any advice from you is appreciated.
I appreciate that! Honestly it's just because I've been using the program for over 15 years now. I got a job straight out of college where I had to use After Effects every day, and watched every tutorial I could. When I left my job to become a freelancer, I realized I only knew how to use After Effects well, but wasn't necessarily a good animator. So I invested in myself and took courses like School of Motion's Animation Bootcamp to improve my skills as an animator. Essentially, keep learning every day
in my designing institute my sir always suggest using speed graph over value, seeing you making overshoot animation by value graph it like why i am not using it, **will you please make video of best scenarios for using value graph and speed graph** btw love your video these video is so helpful thanks....
No, that expression will still only work after the keyframes, and go back and forth between the values. My expression loops the keyframes on either side of them, and allows you to move the keyframes anywhere in time.
@@JakeInMotion I used to work on a 14" M1 16GB at work and now they upgraded it to a Dell 32GB and we work in automation. On their own transform effects work pretty normally but I noticed when pairing it with expressions for position changes depending on T&C on/off, or colour changing expressions paired with custom icon fonts (like promotional stickers moving across the scene) they tend to start not loading the "correct" position instantly but needing a few moments to update. I understand that it is not directly the effects fault, but rather a complex operation of instances trying to work together in order to display moving graphics and changing frames. I would still like to have a way to preview things more quickly in more complex projects in the few scenarios when all layers must be on. That being said, thank you for the video your animation presets gave me an idea about creating an effect pack for the whole team for the most often used effects for fast use outside of the the template.
This is why I really love exploring all the stock effects inside AE. So many animators always keep looking for new plugins and forget that AE effects are already there for a reason.

We gotta do some Macgyvering in After Effects!
Jake, you might be the best educator I've seen on After Effects. Thank you sir!
Great tips Jake. Glad I stuck around to learn the "paste effects without overriding current effects" tip.
When I receive a notification from 'Jake in motion,' it brings a 😊to my face.
Same. Unless he's modified anything edible into clothing. He's dangerous with After Effects. Wearing a pair of shoes made from brisket? Deadly.
thank you for the loopIn() + Loopout () - value; expression!! definitely a game changer for me!
My main man Jake never disappoints 💯🎯
The 'loopIn + loopOut - value;' is so good 😍
idk why but YOU make me HAPPY😭😭😭😭

PS. The haircut suits you. Looking dapper
Noted.
How are you even real bro? This info is priceless

We need more AE Genius!
I love your videos for explaining Agter Effects concepts.
Jake is bomb! Dude makes learning fun and hopeful for novice and advanced. Thanks, man!
🎉Jake!
This is incredible stuff and will definitely save me a lot of time and effort. Wish I knew this earlier. Thanks, king! 👑
So helpful, thanks so much!!
Brilliant tute, Jake, as is all your amazing AE training!
I'll be saving presets from now on! Wow!
Thanks, JIM!
JAKEEE this is great i love this new series
Thanks for the tutorial Jake, gold content.

aha the transform one looks super useful. Instead of a bunch of nulls :D
awesome
WOW!!!
You are amazing
Truly Genius! Jake do you have a course diving deep into graph editor?
Animating With Ease on Skillshare goes pretty deep. I also have a tutorial on UA-cam ua-cam.com/video/7pOCtlrrE3Y/v-deo.htmlsi=WwtXEbfGqo7OHg2M
love from INDIA jake
Brilliant!

It's all about which tool is best for the animation you're making! ua-cam.com/video/7pOCtlrrE3Y/v-deo.html
thx
🙈
thank you so much man.
King!
Genius.
Thx ;)
I'm curious what shortcut is being used to scale the Expression text? Thats a new one for me.
I hold Ctrl and scroll the mousewheel. I'm not sure if it's in the current version of AE or not though, I recorded this video in the beta version.
@7:06 could you use the new paste tme reverse keyframes to exactly mirror the in?
Yes you could!
The loop expression at 11:19, is that same as doing .loopOut("pingpong")?
No, that expression will still only work after the keyframes, and go back and forth between the values. My expression loops the keyframes on either side of them, and allows you to move the keyframes anywhere in time.
can you use this same approach to save text animators w/ range selectors etc?
Yes! And that's actually a topic of a future AE Genius video.
Has anyone using FX Console encounter an issue, after taking a screenshot and then opening the gallery it crashes AE?
I haven't run across that issue, but I don't use the gallery all that often either.
Bro did you just--did you just REMOVE the graphic from your shirt? Or did you add a graphic to a plain gray shirt?
It's just worn 😆. That's Darth Vader. What you can't see out of frame is him holding a coffee mug that says world's best dad.
If only they'd improve performance on AE not to hog the machine when using these :'(
I haven't noticed any performance drop when using the transform effect.

mehhh
mehhhhhhhh
unfortunately my effect is now scaling the shape from the center of the screen, when I used the pickwhip tip you did...what now? :(
Are you sure you pick whipped the anchor point of the transform effect, not the anchor point of the layer itself?
Today I learned you can do loopIn and loopOut on the same layer just by adding a +.
Game changer.
👍
i like this new series so much! I would say I'm still a beginner but it is so helpful to just know the pro things too!
It's the little things that make a big difference!
Keyframe Alt + Shift + Right Arrow...
Man I'm working with After Effects many years now, but this blew my mind.. this litttle things
Are there presets also in gumroad?
No, you can get them through my website. The download link is in the description.
Jake is the GOAT.
Awesome! Thanks so much Jake 🙏🏼
