For a smaller, two-bedroom unit, that's actually an excellent price!
Wish the US could get their act together and stop with the rampant rental increases! Some areas are seeing as much as 110% increases for just one bedroom units! It's insane!

There one million retired us and Canadians mostly in aji Jalisco. Since the pandemic unofficially around five hundred thousand young Americans mostly in Mexico City. Then in smaller numbers Europeans. So don’t talk what you don’t know.
I wish they would too! I can't afford regular housing so I'm fixing up a shed to house and living in it unfinished. My husband lost his farm manager job when owner sold the farm and our house was included so we were jobless and homeless! So now here I am in my 60s back in the workforce trying to pay it off
I’d be a little worried about flooding there. Curbs are low and remember there are no sewage drains or run offs. People need to be aware of that and do your research.

Nice catch, but for the price they don´t offer much I guess. I bought a house for 100,000 in Queretaro in a very decent area, beautiful location, nice houses, gated community with shopping center, basketball court and dog playground. All for 100,000 us dollar.

I was informed flooding occurs more in the city where older homes are located. I believe the newer homes have drains in their areas.
I purchased an 840 square-foot condo in Tampa for 100k versus a 200k condo. IIf the goal is just to keep a roof over your head versus living in your car, you'd be amazed at how small of a space you really need. It also keeps you from buying a bunch of extra crap you don't need to fill the space.
We need more small housing like this.
I have a single female friend who thought she was too good to live in my non fancy place. She turned down my suggestion in 2020, when I bought my place, to consider buying the place above me for 65k. Perfect starter at 550 sq ft.
That place she rejected goes for 175k now versus the 65k she could have bought it for 3 years ago 😂.
My place sells at about 200k. And she's stuck paying 1800 month rent for a 1 br apartment the same size as my 840 square ft condo 😂😂😂😂😂.
Never turn down a place because it's small. Be blessed and thankful. Today I am completely debt free.

It was good enough for whatever you need to do in a sink. Remember, the higher the pressure, the shorter the lifespan of your appliances and of course, the higher the water bill.

In my view, an increasing number of Americans will consider relocating to regions like Latin America and Southeast Asia due to their affordability. As American corporations and investors increasingly dominate the housing market, it may become challenging for the middle class to afford homes at average national prices. Inflation is killing middle America especially with rising interest rates.
Yup this is why it’s a great idea to start planning those international moves now.
I'm an international brat as well! We moved every 2 -4 years. I got so accustomed to that, and now I feel the need to move after 25 years in Virginia...go back to my traveling roots.

This was one of the things I enjoyed when I was in the Army. I spent half my time in the states & the other half outside the states.
$350 a month may not sound like much but anybody thinking of moving there needs to think a little bigger if its for retirenment. He literally just said it was closer to $300 a month and in less than a year bumped up to $350, in just a few MONTHS!. That means if you retire with say 1k monthly income coming in, in a few years time you may find yourself paying $500 a month and find yourself needing extra income. Which you won't have an option for in a foreign country. Things to think about. For people to actively work remotely its pure gold but I suspect those are few. Mexican econ will just improve so count on your dollar stretching less real quick.
Great point! Ideally, the best way to keep those payments from bouncing all over the place is to buy... I hope to be buying in another year or two myself. These fluctuations make my nerves bad lol
@@MoveAbroadandThrive I'm planning to go an extra step, by buying the actual land and building myself. Its much cheaper to build than to buy whats already built. If you buy land thats not even zoned yet you can get it pretty cheap. I'm looking at 25-40k for land to easily build 2 houses on. I figure about 60k to build a decent 3bd house that is custom built. Whats crazy is i see built houses sold to americans for american like prices. If you are buying a house for 400k+ in Mexico you might as well just move to Utah, Texas,wyoming etc. Food expenses are not that different anymore between Mex and USA. USA meal average $17? Mex I feel I spent average $12?

@cuetlaxochitl I don't know those kinds of details but I hear people do it. Also make sure you learn the language and be ready to adopt the way of life. Mexicans are starting to get angry about Americans raising prices, putting everything in english and complaining about mexican customs.
If your retiring on social security and 401k savings you”ll be more than ok saying $350 per month… and if not you have all the time in the world to learn a skill online and get a remote job

If it was safe I'd have moved to one of them next week, and I really can't afford to live in the US. It'll not get any better, and is getting worse ($2G for a 1/1). What happens if you get sick there? You can't just get into your car, and go out. I love peace of mind, and can't live in perpetual fear. There is no safe place anywhere in the world, but the US isn't 100% dangerous. Love this idea, and it's affordable.
I'd be afraid something would go wrong globally (war, pandemic, or whatever) & I'd be stuck in Mexico. I suppose if it were a couple, you'd feel safer, but I wouldn't do it as a single person.
If there is insecurity in Mexico it is due to the firearms that the US sells to cartels and if there is violence it is because those cartels fight to see who supplies more drugs to, ironically, drug addicts in the US, so in short, the US is its own executioner in every way!!!! but no one blames their own country for their own ills that end up affecting everyone!!!!
They NEED to BUILD some of these for SINGLE PEOPLE too.

I would love to see apartments with More bedrooms for people who have more than 1 kid. A 2 bedroom is basically for a single person.

Would be nice to know how close it is to the town center. I know it’s not finished yet and it’ll look better when the yards are filled out but it looks so desolate with no trees or anything. Is this a desert community? I’d like to know more about this. Regarding the kitchen I think the kitchen sink needs to be bigger and have more cabinets. Would be good if you showed the town center because it looks very depressing and isolated. However, it’s a very good price for something brand new.
Trees attract pests and bees and squirrels and insects. This looks like a much easier upkeep and way less pests and rodents around. Much easier for those of us who don’t want to slave over our lawns and just want to relax and enjoy life.

The exterior neighborhood reminds me of the newer Resident Evil movie that came out. The homes looked similar and the interiors were nice and modern. 😭 But really glad to see that there is better things happening for others.

It's a nice area... the only thing is that you probably need a car if you live there... it may get expensive to uber everywhere being a bit off the beaten path...

This is great if it's truly a safe place to live. I'm not sure I'd want to live in Mexico, but I get this with the price of everything here in the US. I'm living as cheaply as I possibly can here in my hometown and pay just a little more than this for lot rent. I couldn't afford anything else at all. Apartments and houses are absolutely ridiculous!! smh
This reminds me of a movie I watched where all the homes looked the same real close together and when they tried to go out they were going in circles there was no way out so they started digging and still there was no way out

Don't want to work till pension age, and by then not being able to dance, climb stairs, do the horizontal with the ladies etc. Couple of yrs more and I will pack up. I already got my PR card, so all its good.
I wish I could sell my husband on moving to Mexico in a few years, his cousin in her early 30's lives in Cancun but works in the US loves it, I slid in a brief casual conversation, he mentioned the Cartels, he absolutely thinks we would be in danger, but last night we heard gunshots a block away while we were in bed.🤔

But you have to prove you have an income monthly of over $2,700 a month, you also have to prove for the prior 6 months that you had a certain amount in your checking account, and you have to continue to be able to prove that you are making that kind of money, there are stipulations to anywhere you would like to relocate, and they are getting stricter by the day, and you also have to prove that you make more money, the only way you would be able to do this, is if you could work from home and work anywhere you choose, I wouldn't even be able to prove this if I was retired and getting social security because it wouldn't be enough. It's no longer cheaper to move out of the United States. Everybody is poor now even in the United States, even your social security check would not allow you to live here
If you don’t qualify financially you can still come for six months, fly out of country for a week and come back for 6 more months again. Book plain tickets in advance. The electricity and water bill is so low. Still cheaper than the states.
So for around $1,000 usd per month (after your rent deposit fees) you can live a humble yet comfortable life in these homes, covering your rent, utilities, water, laundry service and groceries for one or two people. Then you pay additional for furnishings, your health insurance, and any other things that you want. You also have to have extra money in case the American dollar gets weaker and the peso gets stronger. Write your budget down.

I read that nonatives cannot buy a home if it's less than 50 miles from a beach. Merida is 22 miles from the ocean.
Very nice! I would definitely rent first in order to see how the neighborhood develops...what kind of people move there- loud, quiet, etc.
This particular development is not new (they're just adding to the existing homes already there).

These look like infonavit houses, they're not kept up/maintained and look bad in a few years. Very cramped, no privacy. Crime, usually. Of course some are kept nice, but the neighborhoods generally aren't.
The magic of Mérida. I assume they’ll have a car out there, but it’s a sweet deal and there are so many things in that area.

As more people leave Mexico/ South America for the U.S, there will be more deals as the country will need people to support their economy, also, these deals are why people should consider retirement in foreign countries
Do like we did in the 60 when they started the same thing called red lining we all moved back home with mom and after about 6 months they ask for lower rent we just went to the store and bought what we needed not what we want and food prices came down in the recession before and after

Rent in Alaska on a horrible four plex older than the hills and folks smoke on either side for $1750 three bedroom plus electric. Looking forward to Yucatan soft landing! The floors slope up and down in this building. Not retired yet though. Options will open up! Peace is what is affordable it sounds like as We learn Spanish.

The truth is, which no one really wishes to discuss, it's not enough foreigners here to cause all of that. The fastest and biggest growing demographic of folks flooding into Merida are Mexicans from other States in Mexico. Many coming with more money and resources. I live in an upscale neighborhood and learned 'foreigners' make up less than 1% of the folks in this neighborhood. And I'm sure when you look at the number of foreigners in the neighborhood profiled in this video, it'll be WAY under 1/2% ... So it ain't due to foreigners from other countries or US Citizens. But the folks in the US say the same thing. They'll blame 'immigrants' for taking all of the jobs ... It's a false narrative.

LOL I was excited too until I found how much you need to live in Mexico. To get a visa you have to have so much a month income and so much in their Mexican bank. It's more than I get with SS! I make the amount for savings, but not monthly. So, Sure! I can afford $350!

The housing market is completely out of control here in the US, rent is too high, and buying a home for many is no longer an option due to the high purchase price. I'd love to get a little place like this versus paying thousands in rent at my apartment.
I don't think I'd be happy in such a stark neighborhood with so many neighbors packed up against one another. Cheap isn't always good for older Americans living on a fixed income in a foreign land, IMHO.

Is funny people in Mexico say those homes are too small and yes they are but Mexicans tend to have 5 or more kids, maybe don’t have that many kids then you’d be able to live comfortably

It's Florida hot and even more humid in Merida. Not for me.
Hate to tell you but you can do better than that. The living area is tiny once you have the dining set there. And this is track housing. You can find a three bedroom, 2 baths, and huge living area, kitchen and yard for maybe 400 dollars or less in a nice neighborhood with space between houses. This is not a bad deal however, it is just far from the best, Thank you
There's always other options for sure... For most, they wanna get settled in quickly and use the next 6-12 months to determine where to stay longterm.

When the US companies leave China for Mexico, I'm certain a lot of US Citizens are going to be moving down here. It seems the cost of living is much cheaper down there, because everything in the US is expensive AF.

He only need to pay first month rent, one deposit and about $200 contract fee I believe (i got too many numbers running in my head)
@@MoveAbroadandThrive thank you. I've seen really nice affordable homes, but they required 1st mo rent and 2 different deposits + one month for the notary. Guess it is different for every place /landlord?
Yes. Many will require double deposit if you don't have an 'aval' (which is essentially someone who will co-sign for you (they must own property free and clear). Without this 'aval', you'll typically pay 2 deposits for security (plus 1 month of rent) and they'll typically require a lawyer's fee for contract/legal paperwork (can usually equal 1/2 or 1-full month of rent. You can usually negotiate this if it seems too high. If they want to rent the place out, they'll work it out in many cases.

A brand new place like that in San Diego California would be upwards of $2800 to $3500 depending on location. I could rent 8 of those homes compared to what I pay for rent here in San Diego.

Wow I think this is a great deal nice place you have everything you need of course you have to add your own frig,stove etc.But for that price you can't beat it plus you said they are putting a small pool in the back .This is perfect for a single person two people or a small family .I would save so much money and with the extra money just travel around the rest of Mexico and the world.

I'm guessing this is in Los Héroes, Yucatan, Mexico, outside of Mérida? You should learn basic Español and be able to count change, pesos before moving to MX, it is never easy moving or living in a foreign country, too many have these fairy tale visions but need to stay rooted in reality and plan before doing this, you also need to be real about construction noise and neighborhood noise after the community is settled, if your an outgoing person who doesn't sweat the small stuff this maybe for you but don't expect it to be like the states and you'll be alright.

We are renting our house in merida if you know anyone interested would be nice we live in New Jersey but we go every year we bought the house thinking in the future moving to merida the house it’s located in puerta de piedra

Are all those units available? Do they come furnished? What if they didn't have a pool and you wanted to add one? I cannot believe this exists, I am genuinely shocked.
You can add whatever u like to them once you buy it. It's 100% yours. U can put a pool out back. They don't come furnished unless you get one where the owner furnished it as a rental. I'm gonna be posting some videos of houses that sell for $21,000 later this evening. Stay tuned.
