You are welcome 😊. Even if you do buy the lamp berge fuel you can still dilute the fuel with 91% alcohol (99% is best) because I found their regular alcohol costs just as much as the scented fuel.
Yes, ditching them too.
On occasion I do still buy the bottles but I dilute them with 99% alcohol that I get from the big box stores. This way it last me longer and I dilute them 1/4 fuel with 1/4 alcohol.
I love them and they are not that pricey on amazon
I was lucky enough to find mine at a thrift store for next to nothing.

Thank you so much for dropping by. Technically the fuel isn’t oil and you shouldn’t use oil to burn with your lamp. The only oil that I use is the essential oil with lots of alcohol. Just recently I found another lamp and this one actually had the fuel that goes with the lamp. I ended up diluting the fuel with 91% alcohol because the scent was so strong.

I read somewhere that 91% is preferred because 99% burns too hot (it is HIGHLY FLAMMABLE) and can damage the ceramic disc.

Hi there, thank you so much for making this video, it’s super helpful! I usually bought a big bottle of the « unscented » and a smaller bottle of the fragrance one, and would dilute the fragrance with the unscented stuff… but if I’m understanding it right, I was basically paying a lot for a high % unscented alcohol? If that’s the case, could I replace the « unscented » part by 91% alcohol like in your video, while still adding a bit of the scented Lampe Berger stuff to it, or should I not mix them?
Hi and this is a great question. I too have bought the fragrance fuel for the lamps and this is exactly what I do. I have bought the fragrance bottle which is super pricey and diluted it with regular 91% alcohol which gives me just the right amount of fragrance fuel that I’m looking for. Anywhere from 91% to 99% alcohol will work. Never go below 90% as it has too much water in the alcohol. I normally use a 1-1 ratio (1/4 cup to 1/4 cup) is what I use.

Question: Does that mean I can revive my empty (evaporated over the years) but still strong smelling original scent bottles by just pouring in rubbing alcohol (99%)?????? 😱😱

I tried using it with kerosene and it didn't work. Does it only work with isopropyl alcohol? Or could it be 92% alcohol?
The lamp is only meant for alcohol. Anything over 90% . You don’t want to use anything below that cause there is too much water in the alcohol then and water doesn’t burn. The idea of the lamp is not to have a flame to burn the lamp. The heat from the ceramic wick is what evaporates the alcohol in the lamp.

Hi, 99% would be better. The higher the alcohol content the better. You don’t want anything lower the 91% cause the lower % has to much water in it and you don’t want that.
You can dilute the 99% with distilled water. If my calculation is correct, 80ml distilled water + 920ml 99% alcohol = 1L 91% alcohol. You can adjust by increasing the alcohol content and decreasing the water content to guarantee a higher % alcohol.
Hi and thank you for your suggestion but you are making this complicated when you don't have to. We are not making alcohol or changing the composition of the alcohol. If you have 99% use that because it has less water. If you have 91% you can use that. I use 91% all the time cause I can't find 99% where I live. if I was able to find 99% where I live, I would be using that. Just don't use anything under 90% because it has too much water in it.
@@SkullheadGCD You're right. My initial thought was to save and not waste alcohol, but thinking back now, saving that 8ml is not much at all, not worth the time 😂
Edit: Oh I just saw this: "99% works too but the burner stone got too hot within a minute of lighting it. I'm guessing continuous use of 99% would drastically shorten the burner life." So perhaps looking for 91% or diluting it is still preferred?
@@koalajoe Just dilute it, like you already calculated, the burner stone's life span indeed dramatically decreases if it gets too hot. I'd just add 90ml to the 1Liter and you get 91% (1090ml).
I can only get 95% Ethanol locally and i just add 40ml to get 91%.

Hi Betty, You can put in as many or as little as you like. This is up to you. If you like a stronger smell add more. I sometimes mix different oils together to make up my scents. That's the beauty of making your own. I'm not a big fan of Tea Tree oil unless I'm trying to use it as a disinfectant like say a toe fungus.
There's no fixed recipe cuz it depends on the quality of your essential oils. Be careful with the Creator's advise to "put in as many as you like" because too much oil can clog your burner stone and might ruin it.
I personally don't use more than 30 drops on half a fill of the Lamp, but it seriously depends. I have a recipe with really strong scented oils, that's good with only 12 drops. The lower quality oils, need more drops ofc. But you can't always burn free your oil blocked burner stones and then they're trash. Just carefully work your way up.
after 20 minutes of burning, is it last for 6 - 8 hours?

I don’t see why you wouldn’t be able to. I’ve only used essential oils so if you use fragrance oils let us know how it works out.
Do keep in mind that fragrance oils have certain additives that might give a hard time to your wick and also some molecules you won't wanna breathe, like the famous diacetyl from butter notes. Hope this helps

Because you're only burning it for 20 minutes, how long will the scent last? Shouldn't it burn until the stone turns cold?
Hi and thank you for your question. Yes you can burn it for longer if you want. I sometimes I forget about it and the stone will be cold and the fuel will have evaporated. I normally don't pay much attention to it as it doesn't have an open flame, so I just leave it be. The scent itself will last anywhere from half an hour to an hour depending on how long you leave the cap off.

Hi Gloria, No I don't have a store. That lamp is just one I found at a second hand store. Maison Berger Lamp are alcohol fueled and I've never seen them as an electric lamp.
Making your own fuel, will it still be effective in sanitizing the air in your home?
You are still using alcohol to make this fuel which is the same as the fuel you would buy for these lamps. The only difference is I was using essential oils. The actual fuel for these lamp probably use a fragrance oil but the base stays the same which is alcohol.
