Lacey and Kristen maybe two very different singers and at time the same. BUT I like how Kristen uses hand gestures like how Lacey did, it's the pure genuine passion they both share, which is a plus
hey, we can't compare Lacey and Kristen, they've got so much different voices and styles, they both fit with the band, Lacey because she was the origin and, oh, lord, she's the most amazing woman in the world and Kristen because she sings really well, it's such a TOTALLY different new style.
I love this! Kristen, you are doing a really great job. You have a great voice with outstanding control, and tons of passion! I could feel the energy of a full band just through this two piece setup. Also, it's gotta be hard taking over for a well respected artist, so thank you for being up for the challenge. I think as listeners, we should all try to listen with new ears, and not judge it by what flyleaf has been, but rather enjoy it for the great things that flyleaf has now.
She's an awesome singer, and so was Lacey! I'm pleasantly surprised. Flyleaf doesn't need to change their name, because that name has notoriety. Lacey wasn't the whole band. That's insulting to the rest of the very talented musicians in the band to say they need to change their name. Bands change their sound and musicians out all the time. Let them do what they want. This is Flyleaf now... love it or hate it. There's no other option.
She has way more control over her voice than Lacey. Love Lacey and Kristen. Honestly, there are no "better" singers. They have different voices. Kristen has great control and her voice has an amazing lower register and she brings a new feel to the band. Lacey's voice was more in the higher register but her voice was not under as much control as Kristen's, but that's what made us love her so much, how different she was. For those ignoramuses who think just because you can hit high notes makes you a better singer, go do research. You can have the highest range in the world and not be able to control It. It's all about control and understanding what your limits are. All in all, I'm loving the feel and can't wait for the next album!
She can sing. I like Lacey better. Lacey is to Flyleaf as Chris Cornell is to Soundgarden. They bring their own realities to their music. Deep and complexed.

kristen's a soprano (light and bright with the upper register being the strongest part of voice). lacey was a mezzo-soprano (darker and heavier voice, with the midrange being the strongest part). love lacey but obviously they are going to sound different...

I don't mind her voice, but I still find it hard to think this is flyleaf. Love the new girl, and miss you so much Lacey! I find myself stuck in the past, and I don't try to hate, but I don't think I can consistently listen to this new voice in replace of the one I obsessed over for years, idolized and mimicked. But as a musician myself I appreciate the new girl coming and filling the empty space is with a nice voice. Although I do think the music style they both are best in is different, leaving this new girl adding her own twist and flair to Lacey's originals. I hope Lacey can appreciate what is happening to the band and how what she made can continue on and not die off like mine did. Beautiful work and worth seeing. Thank you.
The whole sound of the band has changed not just the vocalist. More of a pop sound than rock. Not bad but not something I would drown myself in. I think this is something my preteen daughter would love which is great because Lacey is more for an older audience I think. There isn't a lot out there that I feel comfortable allowing my daughter listening to. I'm so glad Lacey put out a solo album and love her books. Thanks Flyleaf for continuing to spread the message.
i feel that Lacey used to give flyleaf a unique sound with her voice and she will be missed Kristen sounds lovely but not the same but none the less i am still a fan and am looking forward to new music
Flyleaf could've ended but it didn't. It's continuing thanks to Kristen. She had big shoes to fill and instead of trying to be Lacey she's being herself, which is different, but still quality. Saw them live, she's awesome. Real fans should appreciate that their music is continuing and the fan base is growing rather than not.
She sounds nothing like Hayley Williams. Your just looking at the orange hair. She's usually a brunette. Stop judging, she's a different singer not another band.
People have to realize they aren't trying to imitate the old they are simply adding a different taste than what you're used too. I love her voice and I think it can add a new perspective on fly leaf. She puts herself in the music and isn't afraid, very impressive to do considering how much hate is just on one video. She's much more blunt and I think it could be a good thing for the message that flyleaf gives.
Well, this is the new Flyleaf. We can't change it. I'm going to respect this. Even though I probably won't even listen to their new stuff. Because I will make the choice not to disappoint myself looking for the same depth and feeling in Lacey's voice in Kristen. Kristen can sing, her voice is wonderful, but it will never be the same. And basically we just have to suck it up and deal with it. Lacey is with her son, we should be happy she's happy.

her voice is wayyyy more powerful than Lacey's. people will always defend Lacey cause Lacey was the first and had a pretty distinct voice, but Kristen has just as much grit and way more vocal range.
Lacey will forever be one of my favorite singers of all time... But it was HER choice to leave, she wanted to start a new chapter in her life, and I respect her decision. Also, I cannot even lie, this girl can sing!!! Like seriously, she is pretty incredible too. I kinda wish they'd change their name... But oh well, I will give their new album a shot.

I was a fan of Flyleaf and then I laid off of rock for a while and went to other genres and when I came back the lead singer was gone and this lady took her place.....Honestly yeah she isnt the same...she'll never be the same to the former lead singer because she is her own self and a completely new person....her voice is sooooo beautiful! Its a new beat to Flyleaf....and hey thats maybe what they wanted...SO it to me sounds nice and even though its not the same it sounds beautiful and it still doesnt damage the point of the lyrics....cuz thats what bands are for right?? the message...I hope you guys didnt forget that
I love it, it's a personal voice and not something generic like much else you hear out there. Been a fan of Flyleaf and Lacey a long time. I think Kirsten is a great "replacement" much because she has her own "sound" and isn't just copying Lacey, or sound generic in any other way.
She absolutely did amazing with All Around Me. People are complaining that it "doesn't feel the same as Lacey" , well of course it won't. One she is a different person, two if I'm not mistaken Lacey wrote this song. It came from her soul, a place that none will really know. Kristen has to try and come in and mimic that and does an amazing job. She is clearly a talented vocalist and brings her own to the song and still a beautiful song to listen to.
Those who still want to see Flyleaf and hear the songs they want with 75% of the same band members are glad it's still played. Some people want to stay in the past for nostalgic reasons, and that's fine, but other people progress and embrace change because the world will change and continue on without your permission
Ok so I've figured out the problem. Covers are supposed to be homages to the band, not a replica. The reason why everyone is so iffy about Kristen singing previous songs is because it sounds like a cover - which isn't all that bad - except for the fact that the band is still the same band. So while the band isn't doing a cover, Kristen is. Kristen is doing a cover of Lacey's vocals. She does reasonably well all things considered, but because the band is still called Flyleaf, it seems off. (Before anyone kills me, I'd like to point out that Flyleaf is the band and Lacey was the singer. Now Kristen is the singer. Lacey isn't 'Flyleaf', nor is Kristen, but the band as a whole makes up what we know as Flyleaf. Yes, its easier to replace a guitarist or a drummer, but vocals are just the same. Now I personally have mixed views as to why they kept the name Flyleaf but that's up to them.) Hopefully, by the time their next album comes out and Kristen has a chance to pour her heart into some songs to make them her own, then we can still expect the same passion radiate through the band. Lacey was and still is a role model to so many people because of the ways that she was so open about her story and that radiated through her music. Hopefully, and I speak to myself as well, we give Kristen that chance to speak to her fans and reach them in a way that Lacey was not able to. It's not wrong, just different.
But if flyleaf sounds changes to indi/pop and or not to there hard sounds,then,we got a problem..Karis have you even checked out any of kristens old band/vedera video's yet? If not .I would suggest you do...then you'll see why most of the fan's isnt to happy about kristen..... Lacey is back out singing now...Here's a killer Idea..I would love to see Lacey team up with Lori peters and Ben kasica....That would a killer lineup..
Joe Pinto yes, I have checked them out and hated them. I personally think that Kristen was the wrong choice for a band like Flyleaf... but still flyleaf still has 4 other original members of the band who adore the hard sound, maybe this is a chance for Kristen to show her hard side...if not then they really should do some rethinking...again. And heck yes, I completely agree with your killer lineup idea. That would be amazing.
Karis Nelson not its not like old flyleaf...with blacksabbath and van halen,..with there new singer they still stuck to there core music sound.....now on another note ..with journey and judas priest ,,the bands found singers that sound like there original lead vocalist....manily because they where successful with them and dont want to risk lossing there fans and falling flat on there faces....
I was crushed when I found out Lacey was leaving the band. I do give Kristen props for trying to fill the shoes She was given. I can't even phathom how difficult it must be. I am not Kristens biggest fan, however She's doing a good job. Lacey isn't replaceable by any means (in my opinion). I agree with an earlier comment about staying together but changing the band name. She is amazing! Yes, Lacey's timbre complimented the bands music slightly better. However, I still love Kristens take on it. She has a passionate sounding voice as well...slight touch of Bjork growls, mixed with the r&b-ish phrases.
I'm really really looking forward to see her sing or cover "I'm so sick". For me that song is this band signature. And lacey's scream at the start of it is so authentic and mindblowing (try youtube the acoustic live version of it). Just curious if her popish voice will fit in or not. .
+Mikayla DeFazio I agree 100 percent...there's no Flyleaf without Lacey, its just like when the band Fallen put Carly Smithson in the lead in order to replace Amy Lee & it just didn't work PERIOD! Every singer has their own unique style & Lacey's voice floated over her band's music in perfect harmony, it doesn't get any better than that!
She cannot replace her but she did Lacey a huge honor by trying to keep her creation a reality, make more dreams and creations, and adding a different twist to her songs which is never a bad thing. As a musician it is honorable to have someone willing to try to step into the role of new lead singer, especially in such a band, and especially after ten years of everyone knowing the original singer. She isn't trying to replace her, she is trying to make a new. Even for me it was uncomfy at first to accept it, but now we must move on maturely and realize that we got ten years of Lacey and her work, and now we have someone else who is also an amazing artist trying to share her work and keep living on her dream. Just as Lacey is to this day. Dreams change, and become better.
I like her!!! She has a great attitude and that's great to see in an artist. I admit it took me a while for Lacey's voice to grow on me, now i love it. And it may take time but I know people will get to like!!!!!
It's really hard to like her version of All Around Me because I love the original song by Lacey, but Kristen is really an amazing singer and I love their song Something Better. I can't wait to hear the music to come with Kristen in the band.
She is a great singer, fantastic actually, but I don't think it fits with Flyleaf, they used to be more on the metal/punk side which I loved and still do, but it doesn't fit in with Flyleaf, maybe another band. Still good though but Lacey did bring huge emotion to her singing and body motions, oh and her awesome screams!
ummmm not sure how i feel, flyleaf has been one of my fav bands for awhile now and i fell in love with their music. their lyrics, music, sound all of it and lacey sturm has such a amazing unique voice it's hard for me to hear someone else sing their songs, even though she is a very good singer. so i am in major limbo on the "new" flyleaf.
I wish they just went and grabbed a new name. I love flyleaf with Lacey but this new content with Kristen is great as well. Let it be and let them continue to enjoy what they do.
The new singer has her own personality, style, beliefs and voice. People who are just now getting into Flyleaf may love her. Old fans may also. I want to desperately, however I find I can't. I don't expect or want it to be the same as when Lacey was still the lead vocalist, but it sadly will forever lack the spark that made me and several other fans fall in love. Lacey saved us. Kristen is a good vocalist in her own way, but I think perhaps a different genre may suit her better. As for her "trying to be Lacey", wouldn't you feel a bit of pressure too? Reading all these comments would make her want to cry. She was given enormous shoes to fill. Maybe she is, maybe not. We'd never know unless we asked. All I know is that I desperately miss Lacey, and all her fans and I will love her music eternally.
Kristen definitely has talent, I think she is more formally trained in singing than Lacey, so she has some better technique. However, we all are so used to Lacey's unique voice that no one can really replace her. Kristen seems a little to pinchy on the high notes, and her voice isn't exactly fitted for Flyleaf's rock genre. Lacey is not only a rocker with her incredible screams, but she has an unparalleled passion in her singing. Kristen may not be a perfect match for Flyleaf, but I admire her for stepping up to try to fill Lacey's huge shoes. So no, I don't hate her, but I hope she can fit in better with the material she writes with the band. And of course, I wish Lacey well in all that she does :)
I like. Am a big fan of Lacy also and clearly this would be an almost impossible transition for any band. But I think Flyleaf was smart to bring on Kristen. Hearing her in a radio studio w/ just a guitar; no effects... it's pretty spectacular in my opinion. I admit, however, I am biased. Her former band Vedera opened for a band I manage and I just have to say they were amazing people/musicians. She's so sweet and has a rare voice.
The original vocalist, Lacey?, had a very different sounding singing voice. It fit very well with the band. Equivalent to how Serj and ZP Theart have very distinct sounding voices. This new girl, Kristen, is *obviously* a much better vocalist than Lacey. Clearer sounding, better vibrato, etc.. But, being a better singer and being a better singer for *said group* are 2 completely different things.
that's exactly how I feel. she has an amazing voice, much stronger than lacey's, but she just doesn't give me the shivers like lacey did. Her voice kind of reminds me of cassedee popes.

this is my opinion don't take it heart please: Kristen is an amazing singer, but I feel like she'd do much better in a band of her own, or sing more original songs then the older flyleaf songs that Lacey wrote with the band. This is only because I feel like the emotion behind the song isn't really there, if you understand what I mean, Lacey's voice is very delicate and the songs she sings all have that message of finding hope and this is because Lacey was the girl, who felt like absolutely nothing and then found hope and has risen and is now happy ( I know the full story its just really long and I didn't want to post it ) and when Kristen sings, I don't get that amount of emotion and power the Lacey did. And I know it's not really fair to compare the two because both of their singing styles are completely different, so take this with a grain of salt, I'm not saying I don't like flyleaf anymore because I still like them, they've just changed a lot.
Lacey is for sure on of a kind. I am on the fence of the new singer only because Lacy's voice was just so awesome and unique. Listening to her sing all around me sounds to me like a good cover song but will not contain the same deep feeling as the original. I do give her props for making it her own by switching it up a lil bit.

I'm trying so hard to like their songs! I want to support them and maybe buy their new album but I just can't get into it, I think Lacey was what did it for me. I wish them nothing but the best but I'm having a hard time adjusting. I am excited for lacey's upcoming album. She will be bringing her screams to it! :)

Ok shes a great vocalist. But I miss Lacey. I saw Lacey live at my first concert and I fell in Love with her character, personality and soul. Sang along with her to EVERY song. Her vocals are so unique. The band will never be the same without her, naturally. I will only love the original flyleaf lineup. This flyleaf is alright, but I won't listen to them regularly. i have to say. i miss Laceys voice. Something just emotionally touched and strong there. So for the past year or so I have been pretty prepared to not enjoy flyleaf anymore. I mean what is flyleaf with out that deep painfully broken and restored sound of Lacey? and then I clicked on this video and read the comments and thought "oh no" before I played it... But you all are doing to much. "copying lacey" because she uses her hands to hit notes and brushes her hair (she has a bang, who doesnt when it gets in the way? lol) seriously guys... as a singer (not a rock singer) I know that most singer use their hands when they feel the music or are trying to reach a note. its not just a "lacey thing" lol. stop being so hard on the girl. of course her voice is different. she is NOT lacey. but she is talented! and would you rather flyleaf gave up? the band was great because of laceys piece, but the band wasn't lacey! the guitar riffs are still AMAZING and all the other parts that make their music... MUSIC. so like them, or dont. But i just hope and pray that through all the changes they still stay close to our Lord and savior Jesus Christ. And I pray that Kristen May knows the Lord and adores him. Pray for their continued success in Christ Jesus and that they may touch more lives!

Flyleaf will never be the same, however since it was Lacey's choice to leave Flyleaf I guess we just got to suck it up. I like the new singer but her voice doesn't suit the original songs, Kristen's voice is a little higher and pitchier but like I said I guess we just need to suck it up because just because we hate how Kristen sings and changes the genre into like country or a Paramore wannabee doesn't mean that Kristen should deserve all the hate 'cause she has a higher voice or her hair color
Holy crap, so much hate for a girl that can actually sing REALLY well. Sure, she isn't Lacey, but she still has a really awesome voice. In some ways she's better than Lacey, but in other places Lacey was much better. Kristen actually kind of reminds me more of Cassadee Pope when she was the lead singer of Hey Monday sound wise. She has more of a pop rock style instead of the darker voice that Lacey had, so the style of music is probably going to be a lot different with the next album, but that doesn't mean I'm not gonna at least give her a chance. I think She's a good singer, but I do feel like the style of music is going to change because she isn't as good on the traditional sounding Flyleaf songs. As for the name of the band- it probably should be changed eventually, but I feel like Kristen will do well as a singer for this band whether its Flyleaf or not.

im very happy she can sing "all around me". that's probably my favorite flyleaf song and I was afraid the band wouldn't ever play it.
The whole sound of the band has changed not just the vocalist. More of a pop sound than rock. Not bad but not something I would drown myself in. I think this is something my preteen daughter would love which is great because Lacey is more for an older audience I think. There isn't a lot out there that I feel comfortable allowing my daughter listening to. I'm so glad Lacey put out a solo album and love her books. Thanks Flyleaf for continuing to spread the message.
i feel that Lacey used to give flyleaf a unique sound with her voice and she will be missed Kristen sounds lovely but not the same but none the less i am still a fan and am looking forward to new music
Flyleaf could've ended but it didn't. It's continuing thanks to Kristen. She had big shoes to fill and instead of trying to be Lacey she's being herself, which is different, but still quality. Saw them live, she's awesome. Real fans should appreciate that their music is continuing and the fan base is growing rather than not.

People have to realize they aren't trying to imitate the old they are simply adding a different taste than what you're used too. I love her voice and I think it can add a new perspective on fly leaf. She puts herself in the music and isn't afraid, very impressive to do considering how much hate is just on one video. She's much more blunt and I think it could be a good thing for the message that flyleaf gives.
Well, this is the new Flyleaf. We can't change it. I'm going to respect this. Even though I probably won't even listen to their new stuff. Because I will make the choice not to disappoint myself looking for the same depth and feeling in Lacey's voice in Kristen. Kristen can sing, her voice is wonderful, but it will never be the same. And basically we just have to suck it up and deal with it. Lacey is with her son, we should be happy she's happy.

Lacey will forever be one of my favorite singers of all time... But it was HER choice to leave, she wanted to start a new chapter in her life, and I respect her decision. Also, I cannot even lie, this girl can sing!!! Like seriously, she is pretty incredible too. I kinda wish they'd change their name... But oh well, I will give their new album a shot.

I was a fan of Flyleaf and then I laid off of rock for a while and went to other genres and when I came back the lead singer was gone and this lady took her place.....Honestly yeah she isnt the same...she'll never be the same to the former lead singer because she is her own self and a completely new person....her voice is sooooo beautiful! Its a new beat to Flyleaf....and hey thats maybe what they wanted...SO it to me sounds nice and even though its not the same it sounds beautiful and it still doesnt damage the point of the lyrics....cuz thats what bands are for right?? the message...I hope you guys didnt forget that
I love it, it's a personal voice and not something generic like much else you hear out there. Been a fan of Flyleaf and Lacey a long time. I think Kirsten is a great "replacement" much because she has her own "sound" and isn't just copying Lacey, or sound generic in any other way.
She absolutely did amazing with All Around Me. People are complaining that it "doesn't feel the same as Lacey" , well of course it won't. One she is a different person, two if I'm not mistaken Lacey wrote this song. It came from her soul, a place that none will really know. Kristen has to try and come in and mimic that and does an amazing job. She is clearly a talented vocalist and brings her own to the song and still a beautiful song to listen to.

Those who still want to see Flyleaf and hear the songs they want with 75% of the same band members are glad it's still played. Some people want to stay in the past for nostalgic reasons, and that's fine, but other people progress and embrace change because the world will change and continue on without your permission

Ok so I've figured out the problem. Covers are supposed to be homages to the band, not a replica.
The reason why everyone is so iffy about Kristen singing previous songs is because it sounds like a cover - which isn't all that bad - except for the fact that the band is still the same band.
So while the band isn't doing a cover, Kristen is. Kristen is doing a cover of Lacey's vocals. She does reasonably well all things considered, but because the band is still called Flyleaf, it seems off.
(Before anyone kills me, I'd like to point out that Flyleaf is the band and Lacey was the singer. Now Kristen is the singer. Lacey isn't 'Flyleaf', nor is Kristen, but the band as a whole makes up what we know as Flyleaf. Yes, its easier to replace a guitarist or a drummer, but vocals are just the same. Now I personally have mixed views as to why they kept the name Flyleaf but that's up to them.)
Hopefully, by the time their next album comes out and Kristen has a chance to pour her heart into some songs to make them her own, then we can still expect the same passion radiate through the band.
Lacey was and still is a role model to so many people because of the ways that she was so open about her story and that radiated through her music. Hopefully, and I speak to myself as well, we give Kristen that chance to speak to her fans and reach them in a way that Lacey was not able to.

Karis Nelson not its not like old flyleaf...with blacksabbath and van halen,..with there new singer they still stuck to there core music sound.....now on another note ..with journey and judas priest ,,the bands found singers that sound like there original lead vocalist....manily because they where successful with them and dont want to risk lossing there fans and falling flat on there faces....

I was crushed when I found out Lacey was leaving the band. I do give Kristen props for trying to fill the shoes She was given. I can't even phathom how difficult it must be. I am not Kristens biggest fan, however She's doing a good job. Lacey isn't replaceable by any means (in my opinion). I agree with an earlier comment about staying together but changing the band name. She is amazing! Yes, Lacey's timbre complimented the bands music slightly better. However, I still love Kristens take on it. She has a passionate sounding voice as well...slight touch of Bjork growls, mixed with the r&b-ish phrases.

She cannot replace her but she did Lacey a huge honor by trying to keep her creation a reality, make more dreams and creations, and adding a different twist to her songs which is never a bad thing. As a musician it is honorable to have someone willing to try to step into the role of new lead singer, especially in such a band, and especially after ten years of everyone knowing the original singer. She isn't trying to replace her, she is trying to make a new. Even for me it was uncomfy at first to accept it, but now we must move on maturely and realize that we got ten years of Lacey and her work, and now we have someone else who is also an amazing artist trying to share her work and keep living on her dream. Just as Lacey is to this day. Dreams change, and become better.
I like her!!! She has a great attitude and that's great to see in an artist. I admit it took me a while for Lacey's voice to grow on me, now i love it. And it may take time but I know people will get to like!!!!!
It's really hard to like her version of All Around Me because I love the original song by Lacey, but Kristen is really an amazing singer and I love their song Something Better. I can't wait to hear the music to come with Kristen in the band.

She is a great singer, fantastic actually, but I don't think it fits with Flyleaf, they used to be more on the metal/punk side which I loved and still do, but it doesn't fit in with Flyleaf, maybe another band. Still good though but Lacey did bring huge emotion to her singing and body motions, oh and her awesome screams!

ummmm not sure how i feel, flyleaf has been one of my fav bands for awhile now and i fell in love with their music. their lyrics, music, sound all of it and lacey sturm has such a amazing unique voice it's hard for me to hear someone else sing their songs, even though she is a very good singer. so i am in major limbo on the "new" flyleaf.
I wish they just went and grabbed a new name. I love flyleaf with Lacey but this new content with Kristen is great as well. Let it be and let them continue to enjoy what they do.

The new singer has her own personality, style, beliefs and voice. People who are just now getting into Flyleaf may love her. Old fans may also. I want to desperately, however I find I can't. I don't expect or want it to be the same as when Lacey was still the lead vocalist, but it sadly will forever lack the spark that made me and several other fans fall in love. Lacey saved us. Kristen is a good vocalist in her own way, but I think perhaps a different genre may suit her better. As for her "trying to be Lacey", wouldn't you feel a bit of pressure too? Reading all these comments would make her want to cry. She was given enormous shoes to fill. Maybe she is, maybe not. We'd never know unless we asked. All I know is that I desperately miss Lacey, and all her fans and I will love her music eternally.

Kristen definitely has talent, I think she is more formally trained in singing than Lacey, so she has some better technique. However, we all are so used to Lacey's unique voice that no one can really replace her. Kristen seems a little to pinchy on the high notes, and her voice isn't exactly fitted for Flyleaf's rock genre. Lacey is not only a rocker with her incredible screams, but she has an unparalleled passion in her singing. Kristen may not be a perfect match for Flyleaf, but I admire her for stepping up to try to fill Lacey's huge shoes. So no, I don't hate her, but I hope she can fit in better with the material she writes with the band. And of course, I wish Lacey well in all that she does :)

I like. Am a big fan of Lacy also and clearly this would be an almost impossible transition for any band. But I think Flyleaf was smart to bring on Kristen. Hearing her in a radio studio w/ just a guitar; no effects... it's pretty spectacular in my opinion. I admit, however, I am biased. Her former band Vedera opened for a band I manage and I just have to say they were amazing people/musicians. She's so sweet and has a rare voice.

The original vocalist, Lacey?, had a very different sounding singing voice. It fit very well with the band. Equivalent to how Serj and ZP Theart have very distinct sounding voices. This new girl, Kristen, is *obviously* a much better vocalist than Lacey. Clearer sounding, better vibrato, etc..
But, being a better singer and being a better singer for *said group* are 2 completely different things.
that's exactly how I feel. she has an amazing voice, much stronger than lacey's, but she just doesn't give me the shivers like lacey did. Her voice kind of reminds me of cassedee popes.

Who can really define *better*? They're better in different areas perhaps but, by no means in talent. Having a larger range versus having a stronger core sound can't be argued, for it's 2 seperate vocal fields.

I completely agree! I think Kristen is a great vocalist! And I think she's a great replacement and will do the songs justice. But I'll still miss Lacey. Her voice was just so unique and amazing.
Okay I just heard Flyleaf old songs for the first time today and I can notice the difference in the music already all and all its not the same.
this is my opinion don't take it heart please:
Kristen is an amazing singer, but I feel like she'd do much better in a band of her own, or sing more original songs then the older flyleaf songs that Lacey wrote with the band.
This is only because I feel like the emotion behind the song isn't really there, if you understand what I mean, Lacey's voice is very delicate and the songs she sings all have that message of finding hope and this is because Lacey was the girl, who felt like absolutely nothing and then found hope and has risen and is now happy ( I know the full story its just really long and I didn't want to post it ) and when Kristen sings, I don't get that amount of emotion and power the Lacey did.
And I know it's not really fair to compare the two because both of their singing styles are completely different, so take this with a grain of salt, I'm not saying I don't like flyleaf anymore because I still like them, they've just changed a lot.
Lacey is for sure on of a kind. I am on the fence of the new singer only because Lacy's voice was just so awesome and unique. Listening to her sing all around me sounds to me like a good cover song but will not contain the same deep feeling as the original. I do give her props for making it her own by switching it up a lil bit.

I'm trying so hard to like their songs! I want to support them and maybe buy their new album but I just can't get into it, I think Lacey was what did it for me. I wish them nothing but the best but I'm having a hard time adjusting. I am excited for lacey's upcoming album. She will be bringing her screams to it! :)

i have to say. i miss Laceys voice. Something just emotionally touched and strong there. So for the past year or so I have been pretty prepared to not enjoy flyleaf anymore. I mean what is flyleaf with out that deep painfully broken and restored sound of Lacey? and then I clicked on this video and read the comments and thought "oh no" before I played it... But you all are doing to much. "copying lacey" because she uses her hands to hit notes and brushes her hair (she has a bang, who doesnt when it gets in the way? lol) seriously guys... as a singer (not a rock singer) I know that most singer use their hands when they feel the music or are trying to reach a note. its not just a "lacey thing" lol. stop being so hard on the girl. of course her voice is different. she is NOT lacey. but she is talented! and would you rather flyleaf gave up? the band was great because of laceys piece, but the band wasn't lacey! the guitar riffs are still AMAZING and all the other parts that make their music... MUSIC. so like them, or dont. But i just hope and pray that through all the changes they still stay close to our Lord and savior Jesus Christ. And I pray that Kristen May knows the Lord and adores him. Pray for their continued success in Christ Jesus and that they may touch more lives!

Flyleaf will never be the same, however since it was Lacey's choice to leave Flyleaf I guess we just got to suck it up. Holy crap, so much hate for a girl that can actually sing REALLY well. Sure, she isn't Lacey, but she still has a really awesome voice. In some ways she's better than Lacey, but in other places Lacey was much better. Kristen actually kind of reminds me more of Cassadee Pope when she was the lead singer of Hey Monday sound wise. She has more of a pop rock style instead of the darker voice that Lacey had, so the style of music is probably going to be a lot different with the next album, but that doesn't mean I'm not gonna at least give her a chance. As for the name of the band- it probably should be changed eventually, but I feel like Kristen will do well as a singer for this band whether its Flyleaf or not.
