Well I work everyday at Hino trucks assembly plant and I enjoy every single minute I spend doing it, driving trucks, repairing mechanical failures, inspecting to the last bolt and nut, I can't imagine doing anything else, is a pleasure and I dare to say workers on this video could feel the same as me.
If your refering to the Unimog being plentiful in California, you should think before you say anything, Unimogs are rare to come across in California and throughout the US as only a few were ever sold. Your jeep may be able to do those things you listed, but an Unimog will still conquer trails without sacrificing comfort and reliability and do it straight from the factory.
I think the unimog will do the same - just its fuel tank is much larger. By the way you are comparing two different things - the end utility for one purpose which is worse for the unimog. But its not a long range transporter - its a heavy duty workhorse, and as such will pull loads and carry weights that will break your truck.
hi look its that guy who hates on American in a video that has nothing to do with it... also, lots of slow work and a lot of people in the background doing nothing. not sure thats pride in workmanship...
Crazylalalalala Thank you for your reply Just to clarify Do not hate America But part of my job is to study the manufacturing sector in all sectors and believe me the Germans do take pride in their workmanship almost to a fault, All auto manufacturing extremely efficient, if somebody is standing around it is for a reason, with respect
The thing is: You did a lot of modifications to achieve a better result than a Unimog that has a lot of features as standard. Look at Truck trials for modified Unimogs and see what they can do...
There are tons of Unimogs and 4WD VW transporter trucks where I live>>>>during the 1980s it was fairly easy to import a "Grey Market" car/truck to the States(and many did) until "authorized franchises" of well known Marks and scrupulous sellers that did the conversions screwed it up for everyone. My Jeep MJ has AC,power steering, etc>>>.I can take my boat to LA and back from the Bay Area on one full tank of diesel, try that with a Unimog that weighs several thousand pounds more
Unimogs can't do intense approach and departure angles on small trails plus it's to wide and tall (like a full-size American pickup),narrow light vehicles are best for narrow trails
Gotta disagree with that post. Pick up trucks have a use and they are not weak or underdeveloped in any way. They are the way they are to best suit the consumer. There isn't anything from Europe that can compete with say a ford F-350 super-duty in its category. If you want to compare vehicles like the UNIMOG do it against vehicles like: Oshkosh's M-ATV HEMTT and LVSR, or the M35 truck.
how come they get stuck in trails if it's overweight? don't tell me that they are underpower? cos. if they get stuck trails due to overweight means the engine is underpower, for me your opinion is wrong!
sorry about that, wrong post....but anyway....an American pick-up truck outfitted with lockers and a high pressure TD is a much better value, Our pick-ups have all the creature comforts of a home if optioned right...or can come in the most basic form if so desired...and as far as space inside...they make a Unimog look like a Beetle. Euro big rigs are just so dinky and far more expensive compared to American Semis.
Unitmog Mercedes Benz with wider rear track than front track bodyworks all : 0.7g the lowest traction, extreme tail flick, extreme slide, 20-100 l/100km, over 100 l/100km. From Unitmog database End report.
I addressed you're referring to American trucks as "incapable rubbish". I am not the one ousting a country's staple work vehicle, declaring it "rubbish" just because I'm a fanboy of the latter. Dont get mad.
Tell me, can your super diesel Peugeot-Nissan-Jeep pass the Rubicon trail with a ton and a half of stuff in the on the back? Can it cross a river 5 foot deep without having any trouble? no? i thought so. Which big ass Mericn' truck be equipped with an infinity of add-ons to transform it from a wheat seeder to a snowplow to a train locomotive? none? I thought so to. Don't get me wrong, I like Ford trucks, but they are made for a totally different purpose, even if they both are for work.
I know what they are and we have many where I live in Ca. It's more or less a boutique thing to own. And on the 4x4 trails (like the Rubican and Moab) they can be seen there too, but they just clog up the trail. My 122inch long wheelbase Jeep MJ with a Peugeot XD3T turbo diesel with an extra divorced Nissan transfer case is lower geared than the Unimog and gets up and out of the way over rocks etc. Unimog is like a NATO thing..not practical

Unimogs are not really meant to compare to pickup's. Unimog is a great work vehicle and tool, goes much worse trails as totally standard than any pickup truck does, has space, load capability, engine that is built to be durable and easy to maintain. American pickup trucks are built more like cars nowadays. Cheap components, they last 1/10th of the mileage that real trucks do. But I agree about the value for money thing, if you want a cheap vehicle to go drive at moab for fun, a pickup is good.
It's kind of funny how efficient and safe everyone is despite not having the presence of OSHA to gag them about safety glasses and ear plug's. Kinda makes you realize that grown adults can safely function in the workplace with out government organizations forcefully holding their hand.
main reason why US plants have safety drones hovering around is for accountability, dont want someone suing the company for hearing loss now do you. got fired form one place because i didn't have my ear plugs with me in the break room, 0 tolerance rules that say you must have ear plugs on your person at all times on the property, even the grass lot across the street. USA is just tiny version of the UK nanny system
you just made a hypocrite out of yourself by mentioning "modified" Unimogs>>>>I've put about $8,000 (including used purchase price) in my Jeep MJ>>>>that includes Dana 44s/lockers front and rear, control arms, pitman arm, soft coils,XD3T engine/transmission/ additional Nissan transfer case.Mine might be modified, but its been running for decades for cheap>>>>even pulled a 40ft sunken Chris Craft out of the Sacramento River(up a boat ramp) with it. My gearing is 118 to 1 in first gear
and what? goes 45mph top speed>>>>forget that>>>>Unimog is a very expensive tractor and there are plenty of modestly priced tractors from Korea,America,Japan that can do the work of a Unimog for a lot less $ than a Unimog >>>and with way cheaper replacement parts to boot.
Well I work everyday at Hino trucks assembly plant and I enjoy every single minute I spend doing it, driving trucks, repairing mechanical failures, inspecting to the last bolt and nut, I can't imagine doing anything else, is a pleasure and I dare to say workers on this video could feel the same as me.
i really like how germans make their videos about craftsmanship, theres no music or narration, just the sound of productivity...
This is one of the most calming videos on youtube. It just funny that they are building trucks
so satisfying to watch professionals producing some of the best off-road machinery... thanks
beautiful. straight-forward. lovely engine music. Unadorned.beautiful German engineering.

Just by watching you learn now i know why VW loves their factories in Portugal.
i pass this plant everyday, its huge
I'm the proud owner of a Unimog 421 from 1969!
If a unimog can't handle the job, you may need a cattepillar!
The germans rocks. Need this stuff in south africa as well
that's why many workers do shifts, and can be transfered to other working stations inside or in other factories, to keep varation in their work
Germans are really good in building cars and trucks !
so : this is where the Beast is born.
german engineering knows the future in this kind of industry
Why is there no narration with this video?
شكرا جدا على الاتقان
incredible vid....i want a job there!!!!!
Hope you don't mind, but I shared to your vid on my scalce model Unimogg build Blogg.

+rob greene thats right this is a old plant s not abbout high vollume. they sel them anyway
Portal axles have one major flaw>like Birfied Joints>>>>>>they can't take sustained shock loads/torque-bind in the joints/gears.
beutiful and highest efficiency car
German craftmanship is so 2100!
When I grow up, I want to be an UNIMOG test driver. Thumbs up if you would too!
great video!!! thanks for the upload :)
The thing is:

they seem to use alot of cable ties.....
I want one so bad.
Schöne Muskulatur bei 7:00!
Geil will auch bei Mercedes Benz arbeiten ;D
compra que pode, mercedes benz é para quem quer qualidade, por isso muitas vezes é mais caro que outros veiculos.
I need a job there

its boring to watch without some narration at the least
Вот это заебись телега, Даже круче чем шишига по проходимости, мне так кажется. Здесь всетаки колесные редуктора еще присутствуют.
Germans do it best !!!!

I like it and I want it (2nd and very, very, very old) but I only have licence (EU) to drive up to 3500kg (type B) :(
I would buy one if I could afford it.

Now every body is cheking chasis number on their UNIMOG`s !
you may think so. I know a person that tills 1000 acers a year with his unimog and will not even try a tractor in the same places
No, the Mercedes Benz of Trucks.
ikut kerja dong..

one can buy a tractor for a lot less $>>>and tractors can do 30+ in high range>
