Or...the alternative way of playing music on your any smartphone, iPod, iPhone, tablet, etc...onto that Pioneer NEX Car Head Units,,,
Is through the use of an FM Transmitter!
You will need a WIRELESS 3.5MM Plug-in-type FM Transmitter, and a smartphone of course.
    1. Turn on the transmitter, and the frequency display will light up.
    2. Program its broadcast frequency to any frequency which doesn't have any full-blast broadcast in your area (example: 104.9 MHz).
    3. Then, if your TX is programmed to 104.9, then, choose RADIO or FM TUNER on your Pioneer NEX Radio, and then, TUNE TO 104.9 too, to match the frequency!
    4. Play some music on your smartphone, then adjust the volume on both your smartphone and the car stereo to your desired level, make sure that the sound is not distorted or make some any broadcast noises.
    5. ENJOY YOUR MUSIC!

Why put the aux input at the back..how am I supposed to access it ?!

The idea is simple. During the installation of the in-dash receiver, when the dash is taken apart to put the new radio in place, you can run the AUX cable from the back of the receiver to a place that is easy for you to access. Put it anywhere you want. Depending upon the vehicle, this might be a center console area or other place where the AUX cable is tucked away and hidden when not in use. It has easy access but not a loose wire when it's not in use. This also makes for a very clean install. No wires hanging off the front of the receiver and more screen area on the face of the receiver. If I just want to use the audio from my phone plugged into the 3.5 mm jack, then it thinks I am trying to watch video. Is there anyway to just configure it to recognize to not think it is a video source as well? I get the parking break must be engaged alert.

What model number of Pioneer in-dash receiver do you have? If you are using the Pioneer AVH-4201NEX shown in the video above just touch the Music note to Video Button On screen to switch from Audio to Video and Back to Audio only. You can see it here: ua-cam.com/video/wqZanYnN-Sg/v-deo.html You can find more How to videos about Pioneer AVH-4201NEX in this Pioneer You Tube Playlist: ua-cam.com/video/6Ld4zXlNCsw/v-deo.html Be sure to install the latest firmware for your Pioneer AVH-4201NEX. What source do I use if I plugged the aux cord into the RCA (audio input) on the back? Everytime I tap on the aux button, the screen goes black as if it recognized video. The headunit is a 4200 nex

If you don't touch the screen it stays lit up. I'm not exactly sure what's happening in your question and I don't know what receiver model number you have. However, I think you are listening to music through AUX with the AUX in it's video mode. If that's the case they yes, that's normal. The AUX input is capable of Audio only, and Audio/ Video.
On a Pioneer AVH-4200NEX when you are on the AUX source, at the bottom right of the screen by the telephone button, you'll see a music note and a movie symbol. If you touch that music note, you change between music mode and video mode. You can see it here: ua-cam.com/video/wqZanYnN-Sg/v-deo.html If you're listening to music, this should keep the screen lit up.
