If cannon were like apple, they would have sued for using copyrighted material
😂 Exactly!
Ah, but did Canon copyright the AE-1’s shutter sound in the first place like Harley-Davidson did with their engine?
And they would loose :P
tell me quick what companies has apple sued and for what
I'm surprised Apple isn't trying to sue Cannon for using their sound 20 or so years early.
That shutter sound is keeping skeuomorphism alive.
What is that?
Don't mind asking
“Skeuomorphism is when something is designed with extra ornamentation to make it resemble another object so it is more familiar. The term is most used in user interface and user experience designs to add real-world design cues to virtual objects to make them easier to understand.” (top result on google)
@@mikehurt3290skeuomorphic design is when your designs are imitating real life. Think iPhones before iOS 7 where all the buttons looked like they could be real objects.
@@mikehurt3290it's when you take something real and modify it to fit a shape or aesthetic for example, emojis of cars 🚗 are skeuomorphised
Ae-1 with auto winder to be precise :)
Yeah, a lot of us shoot the AE-1 still, but most aren’t using an auto winder. It’s important because most of the sound you hear in that iPhone shutter is the winding. The shutter itself is very short. Like a click, not much more than a mouse click.
@@simperingham that's cool to know!
Thank you, I was wondering. I have one and it doesn't really sound like that on its own
Except that isn't the sound of the Canon AE1 shutter. That's the sound of the shutter and a powered film advance.
Should have mentioned that it has the power winder, because an AE-1 doesn't sound remotely similar without that power winder.
@@nameisdimzunless it suffers that horrible squeak that AE-1 cameras are notorious for lol
A series canons with a power winder sound nothing like the iphone sound. Maybe not "nothing" but quite different @@nameisdimz
Cool
Me, a nerd, coming to the comments to say exactly this.
I still shoot my AE-1. You can get all sorts of lenses for it still. I never had the autowinder, though.
I was gonna say, I had one as well but that wasn't it. Didn't even know they made an auto winder for them.
I have one as well gotta get it cla’d but the autowinder can be found on eBay for a good price in working condition
i have the autowinder and never used it tbh. it holds four AA batteries and weighs a ton.
You can have mine. It's super finicky
I actually own an auto winder but not the camera itself
If I'm not mistaken, the cause of the distinctive shutter is actually a bearing in the mirror return damper that has a tendency to dry up over time. My AE-1 Program makes a similar sound because of this issue. Here is a video about this problem: ua-cam.com/video/mpJg7tCVDAg/v-deo.htmlsi=HFWDkX2ijfqIrosD
It sounds like it has a wind sound at the end? Could he have recorded with the power winder grip?
Absolutely with winder
The motor drive is the sound we hear. The camera shutter and mirror flop by itself is just the click at the beginning
I have a factory new 1981 AE-1 Program. The shutter sound never carried over because it sounds nothing like it. Shame.
It’s shutter and auto winder
Appel used sound of camera with some kind of power winder. Maybe whole sound was speed up because it sounds to high for me.
with fresh batteries and no film loaded the pitch is quite right it's say.
my granddad got this camera when he got back from Vietnam and he still has in fact all pictures up to age 18 where on this camera adnd then we finally got him to go digital because we hated waiting for the wind up lmao
iPhone's camera sensor made by Sony, sound by Canon
It was a fun camera. You could get really nice photos.
Past tense? If it took good pictures then it'll take good pictures now.
@@michaelmiller7928still does. Took some pictures with mine yesterday 😊
@@michaelmiller7928 maybe not, perhaps they sold their good lenses lmao
I dont have an iphone or mac so I didn't know that sound
That mustache in the ad though is the real star. Proper Magnum P.I. rival. Idk how to feel about being able to make this reference.
I think that moustache belongs to the tennis player John Newcombe.
I have the auto winder for mine. It really feels like something is happening when that thing goes. Way better than using the lever.
People who took a screen shot
👇
With the motor winder...
Not me proceeding to absolutely obliterate my iPhone and take several screenshots 💀
.... It's got a film motor advance attachment too though. So it's the ae-1 and the power winder.
Yep, I had a Canon AE-1 in high school/college. That's funny that I never made the connection.
I have a bunch of these canon cameras and they do not have a shutter sound like that at all.
ae-1 is a cool camera and I've been thinking of getting one but its shutter curtains tend to degrade easier than it's equivalents like nikon fm that use metal shutter instead of fabric
I learn and grow with a Canon AV-1 and you are right
I liked the T-70 more. No more analog circuitry, an auto winder, auto film transport, and better auto exposure.
Interesting! I have an AE-1 Program that I love very much, and reading these comments, looks like the auto winder attachment is responsible for that sound!
I always thought it sounded like any SLR with an auto winder... A generic sound of the era... a very over used but easily identifiable sound in the 80's and 90's.
Does this sound like a cannon AE-1? I own one and the clicks feel off, it doesn’t have the tape advance sound. And all around sounds to fake. My model is around 30-40 odd years old so maybe old age made it sound older but idk.
iPhones make a sound when you take a picture? That's annoying. Can you turn it off? If not I guess you can't secretly take pictures! 😂
Really random, but I was watching this video when restarting my Mac, and the sound effect in the video was timed exactly with my Mac
_has never heard this sound_
... That is not the camera sound i have heard from my devices... Did i jump a time line, Mandela style 😅
Or maybe noone around me is "that guy" with the system sounds unmuted and bothering others 🤔
Apple copies Canon
Apple users: INNOVATION ✨✨
Never had an apple product.. and didn't know any good use for a screenshot back when mac was the library computer.
when i put a shutter sound in my videos it’s actually a recording of my AE-1 firing off at maybe 1/200 or 1/60
whether i want a fast *snap* or a two-part *click*-*clunk*
love that dedication!!
Aren't those the ones with the plastic shutters, that slowly ground themselves apart? That whine is either an auto film advance, or the squeak of grinding plastic
I love this little piece of history!
Aka my dad’s “good” camera and likely your dad’s too unless he was really into photography.
My mind is blown
Thank you
A friend of mine also recently got this camera.
At least they used fresh batteries to record the sound... no one would like a camera that makes a low motion sound like... XD
Didn't have an auto winder by default. Wrong sound.
The good old Canon squeak. Terrible shutters made by Canon in the 80s. They started squeaking like that after a year or so.
I had an AE-1 that belonged to my grandfather and I shot and hand processed hundreds of rolls of film with that camera.
I think i need more coffe- i see Gary Oldman talking about camera :)
And every time you hear a car go sideways round a corner at 89mph you’re hearing the sound of my AE86
This is wrong. This is the sound of a motorized film advance.
The camera so sophisticated, Stevie Wonder could use it.
I am aware of the story since I got my AE1’s from my grandfather- awesome camera btw-
The sound is irritating af. It wouldn't if it weren't used everywhere, every time
I had one in the early aughts for my high school photo class. It was unfortunately stolen from me.
With the power winder from canon. I have one and it dose'nt sound like that with only the body shown in the video.
Shutter sound without the infamous Canon squeak
That lever shouldve help the exposure open manually, always made me upset.
I have an AE-1. Sounds nothing like that
That’s not how my AE-1 shutter sounds.
Honestly the worst shutter sound most photographers will agree on that
There's also an auto winder sound in the iPhone sound.
Ae-1 WITH the auto winder
Immediately try the screenshot😅
Fun fact tha korean iPhones dont have the shutter sound
I LITERALLY HAVE THE CANON AE 1 AND IT SOUNDS NOTHINGGGGGGGG LIKE THAT
Apple even stole a sound of a camera💀💀
Time to sue Apple for it and give them a taste of their own medicine
I own one that my grandfather had, and it's an awesome camera
I have one of these and I recorded the shuttersound to use for screenshots in a game I made
No
No bro I never heard that sound before of camera shutter
A Canon AE1 with a motor drive.
Jim Reekes is one hell of an unfortunate name
Canon ae1 and auto winder actually
But what’s your favorite Canon camera? Granted I only have one, the EOS Rebel XS.
i'm afraid i come from the sony empire
To be honest, I do love their game consoles.
I just realized that I have never actually heard the iPhone camera. My family has always been Android users, same with my friends, when I was given an iDevice for work, I jailbroke it and one of the first things I did was disable shutter sounds, since, at least on my android, it scares animals when I tried to take pictures of them, so it's always been a thing I disable immediately
You don’t need to jailbreak it to not have it make the sound
@Kids11111 At the time you did, this was over a decade ago though, I had looked for the option before using the device, and couldn't find it. The only answer I found about why it wasn't there is because people had been using them to take pictures of people's under carriages without consent, so they wanted to always alert people to someone taking pictures
I have an AE-1 it is beautiful
I have this exact camera ❤I love it
Wow ,i remember that camera😊😊
He look like Harry Oldman
A camera for the masses and the asses
Should cannon Sue apple?
Wasn't Minolta there first? I think it was the XD-7 (!?)
I mean, Olympus Pen cameras had auto exposure since the 60s, and they were way more accessible to the masses than any SLR, be it in terms of ease of use, be it in price.
bold of you to assume i use apple
I own one - in very good shape
"ee1" interesting accent
Amazing content 👍
ae1 looks like Minolta a lot
I've got 2 of these
Is it a good camera?
Imagine having a sound when making photos
i have one of those
So, this is a story of an American company, using a sound from a Japanese camera, of which the company was named after a Buddhist bodhisattva of mercy.
I loved the focuser on that camera. The prism was just better than the LEDs that they use in DSLRs.
Thats soo cool!
Nice editing
AE1 program
Mind blown
who cares
Imagine buying this camera and pranking your friends
I had one!
No way!!!
Remember when Harley Davidson tried go patent the sound of their engine?
An AE-1 was my first camera, seems like every Penny I had when on film I loved it
I saw a quote from a camera design engineer talking about sound effects on digital cameras. He said something like they would work so effing hard to make the shutter and winder silent, and now that cameras could be silent, they went and added to noise back in.
