I picked up a 8 PCs cornbread skillet today at a flee market today
Have to reseason but for five dollars I couldn’t resist
😮oh, I wouldn’t want to put all that grease down my drain! I use a scraper to get the worst of the grease off before I use water on it. Works for me!
I agree with you . I don't put grease down my drains
The municipal water guys have gone as far as putting ads out telling folks to not put the grease down the drain because it means they have to rip up the roads to clean out the pipes.
I warm the pan on the stove, and wipe out the grease with a paper towel or, if there is a lot of grease, pour it in a re-purposed plastic bottle that I keep for grease. Throw that away every now and then, with the lid on. Then, if I still have to scrub it, I don't but that stuff down the drain, either. Garbage can.
We save old news papers for if there is any grease left in the pan .Will get the pan hot and wipe out the grease and save the papers for fire starters .Them clean the way you did . Glad to see you are back from your hiatus .
That could make for some nice-smelling fires!!!
I love this guy's voice. Usually when people say that about youtubers, I don't agree that it's so amazing. But in this case, I really think his voice is so comfortable to listen to.
Thank you so much, I cook with cast iron but getting old seasoning and gunk off was beyond me if it weren't for you. I recently inherited 3 pieces from grandma and I want them back to life
Watching your videos in the past few months, I've learned so much. Thank you for sharing with us your knowledge of cast-iron care. And especially sharing God's Word with us today!!!
As a vintage iron user for decades, I prefer to scrape or wipe off the greasy bits to keep them out of our drain pips & septic system. I usually turn the cookware upside down on the gas burner for these light reseasonings. I use my cheap infrared thermometer to check the surface temp. Your griddle is my favorite item to use to bake cut biscuits. (spoon or wet biscuits need the sidewalls of a skillet for support)
I have been watching your videos for a few years and I’ve learned a lot. Thank you for all the help. I also collect and cook on cast iron. Some of my favorites are Birmingham Stove and Range.
Love all that you share here. And the smaller 3oz. EasyBeezy stick looks great for us who may not have a lot of cast iron. Will be looking for it on your website. (Amazon takes too much money from good folks like you. )
Good tip, I like stovetop maintenance.
Great advice.....Pretty much what I do.
I kust wanted to say thank you i love your seasoning i got the large one ❤
You're absolutely welcome. Thank you for watching and also choosing Easy Beezy.
Just found you this morning. Appreciate you showing step by step. Works for me.
Nice video, Stephen. Thanks for sharing this easy care information.
I live in a cold climate part of the country, so outdoor restoration of cast iron cookware is out until warmer weather next spring. So what is the best way to restore some pieces indoors during the cold months? P.S. - I do not have a heated garage or workshop so it would need to be in the house. Thanks again.
Wish I had seen this a few hours ago 😅 thank you for the great content
Thank God for your advice
As alwzzz, great demo Stephen, gre8t scripture. Now far as da NEW STOVE,,,,, 1st time you've showed it. I bet you're njoying that beast. I love it.
Very helpful tips 🍳🍳
Amen. Thank you.
Thanks for sharing
God Bless you Steve I have a question if you do that ooppps and forget you put your pan on the stove to dry until you smell it and it has burned your seasoning off do you have to take it all the way down and rebuild your seasoning?
I heat the pan up a little to melt the grease. Then wipe it out with a paper towel rather then wash down my drain where it will clog.
thanks for the vid,i was wondering if u know how many different lodge cast iron skillets that were made for cracker barrel i have 15 so far thanks
Thanks for answering that question of do I have to reseason my ci after every use.my real question is how do you use a Wagner bacon & eggs breakfast skillet as a cooking pan or a keeping food warm serving pan.?
How good are these scrubbies? Worth buying?
Great video what about the DSR book ?
Where do you get the chain mail scrubber?
I got a Lodge one at World Market but you can also get them off Amazon or from a store that sells cast iron cookware.
@@cecilyerker I was hoping to avoid Amazon. I'll see if I can find one locally. Thank you!
My papertowels leave residue. What brand do you suggest?
Do you have a video about seasoning a smooth pan? I have a 3 notch lodge number 5 and its so smooth you can see the grind mark rings in the metal. The back of it gets some good layers going but the cooking surface is so smooth I've only gained a very thin layer of seasoning after lots of cooking
I have a fire burned CI pan that was red and did not hold seasoning very well. I quit using processed oils and switched to fats, that made a big difference. The pan is now holding seasoning and is very smooth, although it's taken a few years without soap to season it. I used warm water and chain mail only with a quick rinse with hot water so that some fat is left on, but not a lot. Then I wipe the pan, spreading what fat is left, all over the inside of the pan for a shinny black look. Good luck!
@@tallcedars2310 thanks! I'll give it a shot
What kind of oil do you use to season, if I only have olive or coconut oil?
Whichever has a higher smoke point
thanks for the word Steven, and thanks for reading from the KJV,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
I am new to this . What can I do to a cast iron skillet that was never seasoned properly and used for a year, sporadically?
Just keep using it. It's probably built up some seasoning by now
Use animal fats not processed oils that can go rancid if applied too thick or pan is not used often.
if a cast iron pan is seasoned properly you shouldn't need metal scrubbers to clean it. lm 61 and have never used chain mail or whatever on one..or salt either. people love to make cast iron complex for some reason.
lt's cold here in the Skeena Valley where l live. -23 Celsius tonight without the wind.
Tomorrow l'll season some skillets with a grapeseed oil infused with cannabis mixed with beeswax on a couple of my skillets to see how it works as an excuse to have the oven on all day. l'm curious to see how well this mixture works for seasoning. We made this at our Farm School last year as a 'salve' and it is thick, but liquid. l hope it works!
I don't want to be mean, but this sounds like new age woo woo. Seriously what is cannabis going to do? Also, grapeseed oil is extracted with nasty chemicals just like other seed oils. I don't see a reason to ever buy that.
@@verreal l have it laying around unused & thought l would put some use to it to see if it works for seasoning before l tossed it. l just care about the seasoning on my skillets, not how the oils were produced.
@@verreal Update. The wax/oil combo worked the charm for seasoning. And it smelled good while seasoning as well. Honey sweet with a touch of weed.
I use steel wool. NO SOAP!!!! I have never used soap on my cast iron for more than 30 years and they are 100% non-stick.
Mild soap doesn't strip the seasoning. It's the old school soap that had lye in it that the old myth comes from. Lye strips the seasoning.
I used to use soap it causes everything to stick I refuse to use soap anymore I just use hot water and steel wool
@@truthofgod6213 I agree. I use a very weak Hong Kong store brand of dishwashing liquid with a sponge with thin steel fibers woven in (they don't have actual steel wool). But I also think you can use "baby" dishwashing liquid. Any one that says you can also use it as fruit and vegetable wash is probably okay. I really don't think the taste of the food is going to be okay if you use no cleaning products at all.
@@cindyhetrick8174 Steve also said not to soak our pans in the soap solution, our even in water alone. Not sure if you did that in the past and that caused the sticking.
But hey, if you like your methods I'm cool with it.
@@truthofgod6213
No I just scrubbed it with soap and wrenched it off and dried it I was taught never to let anything soak not even dishes
Correct me, cause I’m probably wrong, but haven’t you, in the past, said to NOT use paper towels to spread you seasoning, because it leaves paper “dust” behind and that gets ingrained in the seasoning.
I use a damp paper towel to avoid this
I use blue shop towels. They don't leave lint behind.
God bless
