The way you taught this topic is remarkable. If you had my english teacher in my school days than I could have better results in English grammar. Thank you for these topics, you are awesome!
Were and was are both past tense versions of the verb to be. But were is usually used in relate to second person singular and plural pronouns such as you, your, yours. It is also used with select first and third person plural pronouns such as we, they. We use was, on the other hand, when we’re using the first person singular pronoun I or using the third person singular such as he or she. For example, you wouldn’t say, “You was going to the store.” You would say, “You were going to the store.” But you would say, “I was going to the store,” rather than “I were going to the store.” Got it?
I love watching your videos on grammar and punctuation; all your videos are explained very clearly. No confusion about the topic. Love how you always give us quizzes to test our understanding. To see if we learned anything. Keep up the good work!
Thanks Rebecca for the lesson! It's easy to understand and quite helpful to apply. Thanks to the lesson, I first learned that quantities of time, money and distance was considered to be a single subject. For example, five miles is not a long distance.
jedi order wow, this is pretty sad...I never leave comments on youtube...maybe my account has been bot hacked...anyway, so what if i am still (even though i am not) learning this? going back to information that was not fully understood is not inconceivable. you insignificant fool.
Hello Rebecca. Thanks for such a supportive resource. It's very clear in that must learners whom English is the second language can build on that. It has expanded my thinking, and I'll recommend to some of my friends. Keep it up.
in the last example two subjets are connected with and so you use are in the blank but if there is a preposition only before one subject then both indicates a single thing example the poet and the philosopher are ... the poet and philosopher is ....
Thank you I am loving this... a small confusion- If it's a sentence like " The Principal, Staff, and students of Sunflower school invite/invites you to their annual sports day celebration"- what would be the correct verb to use
Thank you rebecca ,but i have a comment about phrases linked by and , phrases linked by and take a plural verb unless these phrases have seen as a single idea they take a singular verb .
1.) remains is plural so "his remains are..." 2.) My physical strength and mental strength ARE although i'd say "my physical and mental strength are ..." as it sounds more natural
In example #6, what if the sentence goes like this: Both the guitar and amplifier ____ in the car. Is "are" still use? Or does it become: Both the guitar and amplifier is in the car?
Thank you so much. can you upload tutorial about passive sentences and active sentences with concept of subject, verb, object, subject complement and object complement? I love grammer.
Thank you for the best English lesson that I have learned. But I have one qustion. Tolerance: +/- 5% on quantity and value are acceptable. or +/- 5% on quantity and value is acceptable. Which is right ? And why?
