      First and foremost, I'd like to congratulate you on this amazing lesson.
      As a matter of fact, this ideal lesson improves my grammar skills.
      Moreover, you're an excellent teacher. Overall, you're the best.
      Accordingly, could you please prepare a lesson for us on all the logical connectors? That'd be very kind.

    Sir, happy to see you again. While I was watching the video, suddenly, something came to my mind. The sense of language is so important for us to learn English. Those questions for some people are a little bit hard; however, I answer them without thinking. It could be that I am getting used to the logic of English. I really appreciate that what you have been doing for non-native speakers. Because of you, we do learn no end. Cheers. 😊

      1.3 tons of rice were sent to China.
      2. 3 tons of rice was sent to China.
      Which one is correct?

    • @englishspeaking360
      @englishspeaking360  2 місяці тому +2

      The correct sentence is: "1.3 tons of rice was sent to China."
      Even though "tons" is technically plural, the subject of the sentence is the amount of rice (1.3 tons), which is treated as a singular quantity. Therefore, the verb should be singular ("was" instead of "were"). The same applies to "2.3 tons of rice." So, "2.3 tons of rice was sent to China" would also be correct.
      It's the same rule as "5 dollars is too much for this coffee. "

    Bonjour cher professeur, vous méritez plusieurs trophées 🏆🏆🏆, encore une autre vidéo très enrichissante. J’apprécie tellement votre vidéo, que je retranscris tout sur des feuilles anneaux (pour cette vidéo, j’en ai complété 9 (recto-verso). J’utilise même un stylo de couleur pour mettre en évidence ce qui est important. On dit que la meilleure façon d’apprendre une langue, c’est par l’imitation et la pratique. Tous les professeurs nous disent cela, mais vous êtes le seul à vraiment prêcher par l’exemple. Plus que de la théorie avec vous, vous savez mettre tout en évidence et pour cette raison, c’est très motivant et facile de vous suivre, parce qu’en plus de bien maîtrisez l’anglais, vous savez nous la partager en nous donnant une synthèse et par vos nombreux exemples, c’est vrai qu’en pratiquant et en révisant, ça devient plus facile. J’adore le quiz à la fin et dont vous ajoutez pour chaque question, la règle qui s’applique dans ce cas-là. Donc, on apprend avec vous, par la compréhension plutôt que par le par cœur dont on oublie rapidement, alors que si on a compris, c’est plus facile de retenir et avec vos exemples, vous nous faciliter beaucoup la tâche. Merci beaucoup! Je passe plusieurs heures sur une seule vidéo, car je cherche les mots que je ne comprends pas tout en écrivant tout ce que vous nous enseignez. J’avais oublié qu’on apprend aussi beaucoup de mots de vocabulaire. J’en ai consulté des vidéos, mais vous êtes le seul qui répond à tout mes besoins et c’est facile à cause de votre voix (facile à écouter pour une débutante), la préparation de votre cours, vous êtes le meilleur accompagnateur parce que vous vous mettez à notre place et vous connaissez nos besoins, vous faites donc plus que la moitié de notre travail. Il ne reste, comme vous le dites souvent que de pratiquer et avec vos exercices, c’est facile. J’ai beaucoup de gratitude pour la transmission et la motivation que vous nous transmettez. Passez une belle journée! 🇨🇦Linda (Québécoise)

    I cannot understand the last rule.... Rule number 10.

    • @englishspeaking360
      @englishspeaking360  5 днів тому

      In rule number 10, the verb agrees with ONE. That's why the 3rd person is used.

    Good video! By the way, what about such words as "media" ,and "bacteria" , which appear to be singular , but which are always
    plural? "By the way, the singular version of these words are "medium" and "bacterium", Larry Carroll

    • @englishspeaking360
      @englishspeaking360  10 днів тому +1

      Hello! Interesting question. When dealing with bacteria and media, subject-verb agreement depends on whether you’re using the singular or plural form of each word:
      1. Bacteria
      Plural: Bacteria is the plural form of bacterium, so it takes a plural verb.
      Example: The bacteria are multiplying rapidly.
      Singular: Use bacterium (rarely used in everyday speech) if referring to a single organism.
      Example: A bacterium is responsible for the infection.
      2. Media
      Plural: Media is the plural of medium (in academic or technical contexts), so it takes a plural verb.
      Example: The media were asked to leave the room.
      Singular: In modern usage, media often refers to "mass media" (TV, radio, internet) as a collective entity, so it is treated as singular and takes a singular verb.
      Example: The media is covering the event extensively.
      Summary:
      Bacteria → Plural verb (bacteria are), unless referring to a singular bacterium (bacterium is).
      Media → Plural verb in formal/technical contexts (media are), but can take a singular verb when referring to mass media (media is).

    So whenever I study for my English exams, I always skip the grammar part and rely on my instincts. It has worked for me till my last exam, where I lost a lot of points in the grammar section. So this time, I decided to actually learn and practise for it and what a wonderful time I had!. This video helped a lot to understand the topic. Although, I didn't get a perfect score in the last quiz section, I am confident that I won't loose as much points this time. Thank you very much!

    Despite my whole life speaking English, I've really underestimate how complicated basic english grammar could be as I answered half of the quizzes wrong,(even with that, I probably wrote this comment wrong). Grammar isn't something I really care about, as long as I understand what they're talking about it's all good. want to say thank you for this, I haven't stumbled upon a video that explains sub-verb agreement this full. Thanks again, bless 🙏
