First and foremost, I'd like to congratulate you on this amazing lesson. As a matter of fact, this ideal lesson improves my grammar skills. Moreover, you're an excellent teacher. Overall, you're the best. Accordingly, could you please prepare a lesson for us on all the logical connectors? That'd be very kind.
@englishspeaking360 Thank you for answering me. I really appreciate that. I know you're the best. In fact, without your help, my progress in English would be fatal. Have a great weekend!
Sir, happy to see you again. While I was watching the video, suddenly, something came to my mind. The sense of language is so important for us to learn English. Those questions for some people are a little bit hard; however, I answer them without thinking. It could be that I am getting used to the logic of English. I really appreciate that what you have been doing for non-native speakers. Because of you, we do learn no end. Cheers. 😊
The correct sentence is: "1.3 tons of rice was sent to China." Even though "tons" is technically plural, the subject of the sentence is the amount of rice (1.3 tons), which is treated as a singular quantity. Therefore, the verb should be singular ("was" instead of "were"). The same applies to "2.3 tons of rice." So, "2.3 tons of rice was sent to China" would also be correct. It's the same rule as "5 dollars is too much for this coffee. "
I felt exactly the same as I was preparing the video! It's quite technical... but as I said towards the end, don't try to remember the 10 rules. Practice is the best way to get better at it.

Hello! Thanks for your interest in studying with me. I'm a full-time public school teacher, so unfortunately I don't have time to take on private students at this point in time. That might change in the future though... Stay tuned. 🤩
I am quite in shock to see how little English I know!!!!! I failed on so many of your questions!!! I will have to go back to school or to listen over and over your video!!! You truly rock!!!!!
Hi! Thanks for the feedback. It is indeed a long video. Next time I'll try to split long videos into 2 parts. We'll see if it's a popular choice or not. Have a great day! 🤩🇨🇦
Oh my God, that was the hardest lesson yet. I didn't know the rules but so far I've been right because I rely on my instincts. If it's wrong, it sounds funny. I understood the rules, but I still made 4 mistakes in the quiz. I will watch this video again. Thank you very much for your effort Mr. Teacher.🤩👍
Your channel must have millions of subscribers and I'm sure this will happen one day it'll be so soon your explanation is excellent and the choice of the topic is awesome 👌 👏 👍 thanks a lot wish you the best of everything A new subscriber from Egypt 🇪🇬
Best, useful video ever, thanks a lot and God bless you. By the way, the video kind of pretty long, I wonder if it could be divided into at least 3 videos. Thanks again.
Good video! By the way, what about such words as "media" ,and "bacteria" , which appear to be singular , but which are always plural? "By the way, the singular version of these words are "medium" and "bacterium", Larry Carroll
Hello! Interesting question. When dealing with bacteria and media, subject-verb agreement depends on whether you’re using the singular or plural form of each word: 1. Bacteria Plural: Bacteria is the plural form of bacterium, so it takes a plural verb. Example: The bacteria are multiplying rapidly. Singular: Use bacterium (rarely used in everyday speech) if referring to a single organism. Example: A bacterium is responsible for the infection. 2. Media Plural: Media is the plural of medium (in academic or technical contexts), so it takes a plural verb. Example: The media were asked to leave the room. Singular: In modern usage, media often refers to "mass media" (TV, radio, internet) as a collective entity, so it is treated as singular and takes a singular verb. Example: The media is covering the event extensively. Summary: Bacteria → Plural verb (bacteria are), unless referring to a singular bacterium (bacterium is). Media → Plural verb in formal/technical contexts (media are), but can take a singular verb when referring to mass media (media is).
So whenever I study for my English exams, I always skip the grammar part and rely on my instincts. It has worked for me till my last exam, where I lost a lot of points in the grammar section. In rule number 10, the verb agrees with ONE. That's why the 3rd person is used.

Good video! By the way, what about such words as "media" ,and "bacteria" , which appear to be singular , but which are always
plural? "By the way, the singular version of these words are "medium" and "bacterium", Larry Carroll
Hello! Interesting question. When dealing with bacteria and media, subject-verb agreement depends on whether you’re using the singular or plural form of each word:
1. Bacteria
Plural: Bacteria is the plural form of bacterium, so it takes a plural verb.
Example: The bacteria are multiplying rapidly.
Singular: Use bacterium (rarely used in everyday speech) if referring to a single organism.
Example: A bacterium is responsible for the infection.
2. Media
Plural: Media is the plural of medium (in academic or technical contexts), so it takes a plural verb.
Example: The media were asked to leave the room.
Singular: In modern usage, media often refers to "mass media" (TV, radio, internet) as a collective entity, so it is treated as singular and takes a singular verb.
Example: The media is covering the event extensively.
Summary:
Bacteria → Plural verb (bacteria are), unless referring to a singular bacterium (bacterium is).
Media → Plural verb in formal/technical contexts (media are), but can take a singular verb when referring to mass media (media is).
