The saddest thing of this concert was that this was his last concert because of his cancer. I loved him so much, for sure the biggest italian poet of the last 50 years.

Some information about Fabrizio De André, Faber as nick name, born in Genoa in 1940 he died in 1999. Author and singer of his songs he was palying guitar. At the beginning of his career wrote ballads inspirated by the french tradition, particulary by the songs of Georges Charles Brassens. He came from a wealthy family, the father was owner of a technicalschool, during the WWII was a partisan searched by fascist for his help to his jewish scholars, and after the war he become Deputy Mayor of the city of Genoa and General Director, AD and President of Eridania, the biggest producer of sugar in Italy. Fabrizio arrived close to the graduation as lawyer when he decided to dedicate his life to the music. Unfortunately he was an alcoholic since the high school and a really heavy smoker. The man playing the violin in the video is his sun from the first marriage, Cristiano. Fabrizio was close to the anarchist movement, under the attention of italian secret services. He had friendship and collaboration with importnt poets, intellectuals and musicians of Italy, Mauro Pagani was one of the most important for his music. He made an LP based on Edgar Lee Masters's Spoon River Anthology, named "Non al denaro non all'amore né al cielo". I suggest you to listen "Fiume Sand Creek" (Sand Creek river) in the live version and his last production written in the language of Genoa and of Sardinia: "Creuza de mä", "Le nuvole" and "Anime salve", his last LP in studio.

I'd want to suggest you 5 more songs you'll love for sure: Dolcenera, Bombarolo, Quello che non ho, Il pescatore, La canzone di Marinella. I am really happy to see de Andrè appreciated from non-italian people

Devi ascoltare Disamistade ( in sardo significa inimicizia) parla delle faide familiari che accadevano in sardegna, lui ha amato questa regione dove ha passato gli ultimi anni defnendola come " la cosa piú vicino al paradiso".

Geordie is a British traditional song. De Andrè made Is own version (in this concert version he sang it with her daughter) but isn't the only one. I suggest you to listen Joan Baez version, it's beautiful.

The songs of the album non al cielo non al denaro non all amore( like il suonatore Jones, un giudice, un chimico) are inspired by Edgar lee Masters" anthology of spoon River", that Is a collection of porms..he almost translated literally. For example un giudice Is inspired by the poetry" selah lively judje "or, un chimico Is " Trainor the druggist"

If you're enticed by the overall sonority of the song and the medieval-ish vibe, you should check Angelo Branduardi. Specifically, Il Poeta di Corte or Confessioni di un malandrino

Hello! It seems that you are probably a little bit "addicted" to the italian music and songs 🙂. As Italian, that makes me proud and, if you take my advice, you have to listen to the full live album of Fabrizio De Andrè & P.F.M. an absolute masterpiece. There also many and many others epic songs, you can (and I hope you will...) discover by your own.
Just one little more suggestion: "il cielo d'Irlanda" (Ireland sky) by Fiorella Mannoia: an Italian declaration of love in Irish style... Enjoy!

It is one of the least "political" songs by De André. It is inspired by a Genoese nursery rhyme. From the same concert you can find an entire song in Genoese dialect (Crueza de ma) that not even us Italians from other regions can understand.
