This was their first live appearance. When they started playing, the mist came down from the mountain, enveloping everyone. Smoke machines were not used. What you see was sent by the gods.....

"What am I supposed to do when I want to talk peace and understanding
But you only understand the language of the sword"
"So I let my blade do the talking
My tongue shall become as Iron
And words the mighty roar of war"
"The sword is soft In the fires of the furnace
    It hungers to be hit
And wants to have 100 sisters
In the coldest state of their existence"
Basically this is a song of just wanting to live in peace, but the antagonist does not allow peace for gentle folk
So what are the gentle folk to do? We stop being gentle, we let "the blade do the talking"
I love the line about sword forging its just amazing song writing stating that a single sword begs to have 100 sisters forged along side it and in the coldest state of their existence, we all know when iron/steel cools after being forged it becomes hard and sharp. Such great lyrics!

The thing that sold me on this reaction is that you instinctually danced.
Dancing is the best way to experience moving music. I like and heartily enjoy technical and intellectual breakdowns of Heilung songs of which there are many.
But dancing to it is so primal. So needed. Necessary.
We share a common anima. Different culture, different language - but some aspects of the souls are aligned.
    I feel blessed.

The band defines their genre as "amplified history." The title of the song is War Chant. This is from their LIFA concert at 2017 castlefest, their first ever life performance. The lyrics are their vocal reinterpretation of the eggja stone inscription. Their concerts are meant as "a ritual meditation that sends you through varying emotions and leaves you in a state of peace". The whole live concert is available on youtube and I think you'd love it but the other must tracks are In maidjan (first song of this first ever concert), Alfadhirhaiti, and Hamrer Hippyer. (You might also enjoy their piece "Elivagar" tho there's no video medio to go with. Best listened to with eyes closed anyway.)

Heilung don't have gigs. they are called ceremonies. they also don't have fans either. they have Brothers and Sisters, I love this way of thinking and communicating. it show we are all there together. ( I cant get enough of this band ) very visual. very powerful spiritually. very primal the connection. almost like connecting with our ancestors
Another band similar sound wise is a band called "Skald" obviously "Wardruna

  • @jeffknowswhatsupoldsoul1978

I know I'm a year late but the closest other group I would kinda group this sound with would be "Wardruna", if you have heard them then you know what I mean. Both are trance inducing and they both reach that primal place we all have but have almost lost. Seems like the further we advance in time the dumber we get. Early man was the genius, everyday, EVERYTHING tried to kill him but they made it, was a whole big thing to just have fire all the time. Now some of these people don't know which bathroom to use or to stand or sit down to piss. Sounds like some hella intelligent advancement huh? Lol Hope you hear more of Heilung and Wardruna both. Both play a big part in helping me to reach that point where nothing is close to you except the great architect and you can ask him anything. With a little practice everybody could do it again. Anohana" is a beautiful song.

Hi! Just a quick note on the quality of your sound setup: from 4:20 onwards, if I crank my volume up, I hear a very annoying 'flutter' sound where the deep bass spikes. You can prevent this fluttering sound, by decreasing the volume of the music in your video setup, in such a way that the maximum volume of the song makes the equalizer max out. It seems that your equalizer maxxes out already during that intro, which cuts off the bass when it exceeds that maximum volume, creating a flutter sound.
I then have to decrease my volume on my amplifier until I dont get the flutter anymore, but on the original video, I can crank it up as high as I want: without any flutter. If you get what I am trying to say (its a bit hard to explain).
