If you run RBM, download a mod called Better Pikes…it makes troops with spears actually good. One of my favorite tactics is to put one thin infantry line in shield wall to slow down the cav charge followed by a line of spear men to chew the horsemen to bits.

guess this can be called a series of strategy. Theres only a couple of channels where i like the videos before i watch them. this channel is one of them, because i know i will be entertained
You honor me friend, thank you! This series can indeed be seen as a strategy series but it's comprehensive. For newer players, I recommend the ENTIRE playlist of 10 videos because I think there is a wide array of information necessary to really crush it at everything from campaign strategy, logistics, companion build and loadout, city management and so much more.
On one of my campaigns I made all of my clans wives heavy cav. The transition was pretty easy since most nobles have at least 100 riding. They were so much more valuable then I expected them to be! On my current campaign all of the companions and wives are archers, similar to fians, while the sons are skirmishers.
I love it - and this is what I usually end up doing as well. Almost ALL companions have some value, as long as they are specialized, even with women with 100 riding, once put into nice armor and given a strong horse are level 25+ in a few years just by trampling and spearing guys in battle. You know me too - I PREFER archers and skirmishers to cav, maybe because it's more visceral combat on the ground, but also because I think they are more versatile for a wider variety of situations.
Dude PLEASE keep making the videos they are super interesting. I would love to see you take on some recreated historic battles, think that would be a fun video to watch. Hope it keeps being fun for you
I love this stuff and would pore over all this info to improve my own companions. I recently respect my own companions to make more effective commanders. It took time, effort, pen and paper and a lot of pondering and beer... maybe a whisky or two, too. I loved every long-winded minute, and I think they boost their troops' stats and the armies' overall lethality. All the kids and wives are squires on horses with polearms, lances, etc. Doviding Company flags/banners is still being worked out.
Glad you decided to start sharing your experience and making vids as they are great entertainment as well as informative. Only thing I would recommend is a better mic or fidling some more with the gains etc. if you already got one. Sometimes like in this one its very static and it does sound like one of those headset mics. Pretty much the only thing to really make your vids stellar since you often mentioned you already got that beast rig of a PC. Keep up the great work, already looking forward to these even though I only just discovered your channel a few days ago.
Thank you for the encouragement and the suggestions! I am still using a headset Mike and it is actually a few hundred dollars upgrade from my previous poor quality one. I'm hoping I can configure The voice meter to smooth it out enough that it produces good quality audio in the future. If not we'll see, though I don't plan on spending a huge amount of money on equipment for the channel especially since I'm not monetized or sponsored. I hope also you, like others check out some of the previous content I've been at work pretty hard the last 6 months though it is a labor of love.
@@HeadlessHorsemanProductions That is very understandable. In case you use OBS for recording, you generally wan't the peak of your voice to be in the yellow and not higher, but you are already at a good level here it sounds like. Thanks for the tip - and NO question one of the most important reasons to be on horse is to deal with the enemy horseman, ESPECIALLY if you're badly outnumbered, you kinda have to do some work or your troops are going to take a beating. Similarly, it would be nice if enemy horsemen were more lethal, aka horse archers who don't attack with melee unless they are out of ammo, etc.
Have you noticed a difference giving your companion cavalry units swinging polearms vs lances? I tend to want to do this since I kill so many more enemies with a swinging polearm, but I'm not sure if that applies to the AI.
Generally I like them to have swingable polearms, yes, but there's also some decent kills by them with spears. I've never done deep testing(in the future I may), but I know with the RIGHT length polearm(and 250+ skill), they become quite lethal...
