This video was a huge help! Your tip about not removing the bracket from the door was a big time-saver. Replaced the center roller in about 20 min - and that was with me running around finding tools and creating a pile of bricks to hoist the door up. Thanks again!
Nice shortcut...it's nice when they engineer in a removable pin vs. a pressed in pin you can't change. Mrs "O" tells it like it is..."Ever since you didn't do nothing it's still broke"...you guys are perfect for each other & you can tell. Nice video & look forward to seeing you both even for a short time b/c it's refreshing to see!
Actually the GMs are pretty easy and the newer ones went away from the sliding door. They all have their issues, some more than others. Engineers design cars and mechanics reverse engineer them to fix them. I am thankful for engineering design flaws & the new technology will keep us busy for years to come :-) ...and then there's Dorman which has them all beat HAHA
I liked it better when I could fix things half asleep. These new ones get my blood pressure way up there. Moronic designs. Definite job security, though. :)
Just finished in under 30 minutes. Takes a serious attitude to pull back the cable on the re-assembly process, but uses the shortest route to save a LOT of time screwing with access panels and internal cable drives. The best video once again.
You have the best video on this particular job. Best part is no time wasted pulling inner panel off. You don't bore people with stupid details just good humor and an efficient method. Now I'm going down to the shop and change that same hinge on my puppy mobile down hear in southern NH. Thanks bigly.
Thanks for another great video with tips and tricks. I swear the best part of my day is when you and Mrs. O banter back and forth. I wish you had a video on replacing the power window actuator on a 89 Chevy pickup. The mechanism is attached to the door panel with giant rivets! I don't think GM planned on the truck surviving long enough to need a new one. lol
I want to thank you slouch I did both sides in about an hour and a half because of your cheat I used a half inch extension because it was the first thing I could find with the reach you were the only one that simplified this job on my 07
good job Eric O,when you said "oh, almost broke your window" that just brought my bad week to the fore front of my mind lol, wife suv developed an leak on the oil cooler line so she was driving mine for work....she calls me..."locked the keys in the car", grabbed my lock out kit and headed out, took under 30secs to unlock, as I was in the process of being impressed and admiring my skill all the while patting myself on the back.....removing the lockout tool "Smash" that's when the humble pie tastes the worst. point is even the simplest of tasks can become a good reminder of how Not so perfect we all are. glad it was a no event job.
Thanks for all your awesome video. Just fixed my passenger sliding door Odyssey 2006 just like you described but I had to take 2 , 12mm bolts off hinge. Need to mark hinge with black marker to make sure it is aligned properly. Also, it might be easier to bend one side of metal leaf on cable holder so that you can insert back cable easier. Then bend back to secure cable. I found that after I replaced roller, the car would make the alarm door sound whenever I put car in drive, even though the sliding door was closed securely. I found that I needed to reset door by pulling fuse 7 under the driver's side foot well for 10 seconds and then putting it back in. This fuse is labelled BACK UP in owner's manual. This got rid of the door alarm noise and also the sliding door warning yellow light on the dash shut off.
I will be honest with you you were talking about your voice I think that you sound just like red green. And I think that it is awesome that your wife is not afraid of getting in there and getting it done. God bless her.
Brings back memories of my trusty old Odyssey. 180kmi and still ran like a champ after ten years of kids, dogs, racing kart, and miscellaneous stuff hauling. I had to replace those hinges too of course. Funny, my passenger door handle had the exact same ding in it! Thanks for sharing!
Another great SMA video. I did both of mine on my 08 Touring last year but I used a sharpie to mark the bracket location and just unbolted it from the door. Other than that I did the same way you did. I think it takes the same amount of time either way. No way I'd pull the quarter trim panel for that. One correction for you, Eric. Actually, there are FOUR switches in that rear latch assembly. The full latch, half latch, ratchet, and base position switches are all in that assembly. The most common failure is actually the base position switch. A failed or dirty base position switch can even cause the door to not work at all and can cause a parasitic drain on the battery overnight. Customer complaint: Door doesn't work and battery is dead after a day or two = base position switch problem. Many times the switches are fine but the latch just needs to be cleaned and re-lubed. Obviously, in your setting, Eric where time is money, it's best to replace it with a new one but for the DIY'er you can often clean them up, make sure the cams are moving and activating the switches normally, and then put it back in. By the way, you can see all these switches activate in your scan tool. (I know because I just picked up an Autel MaxiDAS DS708 on craigslist for a steal of $225 - May 2016 update. YAY!) and played around with the doors and switches in the scan tool. Another common failure in these doors is the release actuator, sometimes called the unlatching motor. This is a little black gear box right in the lower center of the door when you pull the panel. When these start to go, the door will start to open/close and then immediately stop or it will open/close and make a popping noise. They are easy to replace (three easy screws and a small spring) and, for the DIY'er can be disassembled, cleaned and lubed, and reinstalled. There's a little metal pin in the clutch that gets a bit sticky. If you're in there and you've dropped the money for that rear latch assembly I'd also replace that release actuator. It's not very expensive to just replace it if you don't want to mess with disassembling it and cleaning it. It will fail. On my Ody, I've replaced the rear rollers and cleaned/lubed the unlatching motors. I haven't had any rear latch problems (yet.)
Eric I love the video on Mrs. O's ole Hondu... Waiting on the second to be continued video on the Sliding Door Motor. My 08 Odyssey has the same issue. PLEAESE POST SOON so I can tackle my issue. Thanks for all you inspiration.
HONDA needs to have a darn recall for those switches, I paid over 850.00 for parts and labor at Napleton Honda Loves Park Illinois when all I needed to do was watch your videos! Grrrr
Great video, especially with the Mrs. adding a little beauty to the screen. Seriously I plan to do the same on my Odyssey and this video is great and very helpful for the DIyourselfer, like me. The right side sliding door hops and skips but still works, but sounds like it has a hernia as it moves, but the odyssey has 190k miles. Its due, and I might do same hinge replacement on both sliding doors. Other day when the car was parked on a slight incline up at the mall it freaked the wife out because the door would move a few inches and stops, could not go up the very small incline. Having my observant hat on, I moved the car to be on the incline down, and sure enough the door slid closed easily. So it is time to do what you did in this video. Will save a lot from dealer price. Thank you, thank you
another great video!!! Dr. O !!! I love Mrs. O's quick wit !!! She's got your number buddy !!! What ? no brake clean ? no fluid film ? i really like learning ways to get a job done that bypasses some of the "by the book" steps !!!! that's why i call assembly instructions " corrections"
LOL!!!! @20:10 I love watching Eric and Vanessa chat. Dog crates at 1:10. Yes! my two hunting hounds are in their indoor crate right now. I never, ever, put them in there, But they love it, and I find them in there all the time. They are sisters, from the same litter. They have been sleeping together since BEFORE they were born. They make a two dog pile. They come out when I sit on the sofa, and they book-end me; one sits on each side of me and they both lean against me. Lovely.
Poor Mrs O ,, she's so sick ,,, but ever the loving, caring, dutiful wife that she is, she still summons up the strength to give you grief ;) lol .. Bless her :)
My 199 odyssey needs the same roller replaced. Mine doesn't have the auto door cables though, but it still looks the same. Your video was the first one I've seen where just the pin wash pushed out. Going to have to try it your way...Thx for the tip!
Thanks to you Mr O. Yesterday I replaced the EGR valve on a 2010 Dodge journey with a V6. I have a hand held engine diagnostics device that I used to troubleshoot. I can't control stuff with it but other than that it does a lot of other fancy stuff. You should be nicer to your wife she looks like a sweetie pie 🥧 Cheers mate
Thanks for the new videos Dr. O. First class quality as usual. BTW, the 'other things' Mrs. O wants fixed might need to be addressed. After 34 years with my bride I've learned that the things I don't think are important can sometimes get me in trouble if I don't take care of them. Just sayin'...... Of course, I cannot usually remember what they are.
Vanessa keeps you straight brother! Great video. Not that I own a Honda van or anything but you never know what I'll get into, plus I'd hang out an oil change just for the laughs along the way. I hope Mrs O is better by now. Wyatt
I'll look forward to his appearance! I get to your area though work on occasion but I've yet to have enough time to rent a car and come visit the shop. One day however I'll get up there...maybe with the 98%. :)
Heck yeah Mike likes to come and hang out in the shop and you 2 are welcome any time! He always plans the trips around lunch time so we go get something to eat at the local bar.
Thanks, this helped me get the job done on our '09! I had some trouble trying to knock the pin out with the hinge still on the van, so I ended up unbolting it from the door and hammering out the pin while it was safely away from the glass.
Ugh, my pin was seized into the plastic. Finally gave up and unbolted the whole assembly. And the door slipped off the jack. Pay attention when you're reattaching people. Great helpful video.
Really enjoying your videos. I wish i lived closer to your shop i would take my vehicles there. You do good work. I live about 2 hours away in Syracuse.
Thank you this video saved me a bunch of time today. Made the replacement maybe a 10 minute job. And by the way a 3/8ths drive extension works perfect for knocking pin out. Thank you again very helpful as we dont see to many of these vans.
Quick tip on E clips and the like. Take a piece of masking tape and stick it over the clip/pin so you cover the area that the clip has to travel to come off. Now use a pick or screwdriver to poke through the tape and remove the clip. The tape will catch the clip as it comes free so you don't have to play fetch.
Where is the video on the door closer motor? I'm trying to learn all I can about these doors as both of mine are about to crap out. I already saw the one on replacing the door motor. And WTH is the difference between the door motor and the door closer motor??? Agh. Too much to learn! Great videos by the way. You are more patient then we deserve.
I have a 2014, the cable broke. The price to replace was ridiculous. Probably going to buy aftermarket cable on ebay. Thanks for the video.... 4 years later!
I like using a stock Jeep (YJ, TJ, XJ, ZJ) jack for doing door pins. It is like a bottle jack, but it uses gears or something instead of a pump, so you rotate it to go up and down. It gives alot more precision when lining up the pin.
This have got to be a first...no brakleen and no power tools. Wow Honda used stainless steel bolts. Stainless steel bolts are usually used in Marine application, hence doesn't stick to magnets. Great video !
Hey Eric. If you need to remove/install a non-magnetic screw,`etc., just stick a small piece of LePage's Fun Tak Adhesive Putty on the end of the screwdriver tip, remove the screw and the putty will hold it on the tip for you. Get it at Staples runs about $3 for more then you will ever need.
Ever since you changed my oil my radio has been intermittent. You obviously broke it while working on my vehicle........Lol! Nice repair. Could take a bit longer if the cir-clip goes flying! Now I'll have to check with Scotty Kilmer how to do it right.....just kidding. Always love your videos.
Thanks for another great video. I like the way you tackle a job. Are you going to release a video on the door closer motor? The suspense is killing me.
Watch an SMA for very very long time why is it that you just replace the part that wasn't broken on your wife's van that has a lot of other things that are broken? Just so everybody knows I threw my back out 4 days ago so I've been watching SMA for 4 days anybody feel bad for me yet keep up the good work
While my door was jacked up and supported, it literally fell out onto the ground. The other two rollers came out of their tracks. It was one heck of a mess. I had to have four people help me get everything put back together. I have no idea why this happened. And, no matter how hard we pulled on the cable, we could not get it to stretch enough to get it back into the roller assembly. So now I have a manual door. Which is probably better anyhow.
Great Video - followed along and just replaced my driver side (Left) bracket. Hardest part was actually getting the taillight off (getting the plastic pin to come out). The two plastic rollers were fine, but the entire shaft that holds them to the bracket was wobbly. While the door now slides nicely again, this did NOT fix my problem. Pressing the button to open or close the door does NOT work (nor the automatic function with internal or external handle pulls. And no door latch "lock down" sounds either. I swapped the fuses under the hood in the box behind the main fuse box just in case one was bad, but right door still works fine, so not the fuse. Hoping it is NOT the motor assembly, but it might be. Does that motor assembly also control the electronics for the door latch actuation? Off to google search for that issue now..
Common on this van, open assembly there are 3 switches inside, the one closest to the latch has a lever with a return spring it gets dirty and will appear to spring back all the way but if you look close you will see it does not go all the way to engage the switch clean and lube all parts make sure spring engages switch every time reinstall.
Hope she is better. Love the back and forth. Very funny. You better fix her van and make her happy before she pawns your tools to pay honda to do it lol
Mrs. O needs to be in every video! She always brings a smile to my face!!
It’s December 2024 and your video is still helping people. Thank you
Mrs O reminds me so much of my daughter: attitude and looks. Eric, you are not only blessed with knowledge, but with LIFE! God bless!
even though Mrs O is under the weather she is still looking good!
This video was a huge help! Your tip about not removing the bracket from the door was a big time-saver. Replaced the center roller in about 20 min - and that was with me running around finding tools and creating a pile of bricks to hoist the door up. Thanks again!
great video, my son and I changed both on his van this morning, the tips in your video helped a lot. had them both done in about an hour and a half.
I like when misses o makes a guest appearance and a healthy conversation is engaged
Nice shortcut...it's nice when they engineer in a removable pin vs. a pressed in pin you can't change. Nice video & look forward to seeing you both even for a short time b/c it's refreshing to see!
Haha yeah after being together for 16 years you tend to be :)
If GM built that thing, they'd have pressed it in ... and made that side body panel all one piece, so you'd have to remove the roof & side glass ...
Actually the GMs are pretty easy and the newer ones went away from the sliding door. They all have their issues, some more than others. Engineers design cars and mechanics reverse engineer them to fix them. I am thankful for engineering design flaws & the new technology will keep us busy for years to come :-) ...and then there's Dorman which has them all beat HAHA

she's great good sense of humor nice vid Mr.O
Nothing says love like genuine OE parts. It brought a smile to my face that you care enough to use genuine honda parts for Mrs. O's van.
Just finished in under 30 minutes. Takes a serious attitude to pull back the cable on the re-assembly process, but uses the shortest route to save a LOT of time screwing with access panels and internal cable drives. The best video once again.

ohhhhh bad story... yeah we all get a pride check now and then :)
Mr O every video I've seen so far has giving me the permission to say that you are one hell of a mechanic you are awesome

YOU HAVE TO FIX MRS. O'S VEHICLE PERIOD! ! ! JUST DO IT!
Great tip on how to remove that part! Great Video!
You guys make a great couple, with a good sense of humour.
Loved watching every moment of this video, beautiful couple. You 2 kept a smile on my face the whole time y'all interacted with each other.
Eric I love the video on Mrs. O's ole Hondu... Waiting on the second to be continued video on the Sliding Door Motor. My 08 Odyssey has the same issue. PLEAESE POST SOON so I can tackle my issue. Thanks for all you inspiration.
This is a much easier way to do. No adjustments needed. Did this process on my second door. Thanks
Good job on Mrs. Os ride, hope she get to feeling better.

Clear Concise and a great short cut - that doesn't damage anything if we are careful !! Thank You!! Liked!!
I know this is old but my 06 is having sliding door issues. Thanks for the info. Great video.
Mrs O, no longer shy on the camera, that is good!!!
Thanks for the video and the humor, I got a few chuckles and gained some knowledge!
Poor Mrs O ,, she's so sick ,,, but ever the loving, caring, dutiful wife that she is, she still summons up the strength to give you grief ;) lol .. Bless her :)
remember eric she's the boss if she says fix it u have too..haha love your channel
"To Be Continued..." Yes sir Mr. O. You've certainly got that right.
You should be nicer to your wife she looks like a sweetie pie 🥧
Cheers mate
Thanks for the new videos Dr. O. First class quality as usual. BTW, the 'other things' Mrs. O wants fixed might need to be addressed. After 34 years with my bride I've learned that the things I don't think are important can sometimes get me in trouble if I don't take care of them. Just sayin'...... Of course, I cannot usually remember what they are.
Vanessa keeps you straight brother! Great video. Not that I own a Honda van or anything but you never know what I'll get into, plus I'd hang out an oil change just for the laughs along the way. I hope Mrs O is better by now. Wyatt
Yep she is all good now, thanks Wyatt. You know your welcome any time. Our favorite 98%er makes an appearance when I fix the rest of the door.
Sounds good, I want to get an ice cream too. :)
Oh man gotta wait till summer then :) Everything here is closed now
Thanks, this helped me get the job done on our '09! I had some trouble trying to knock the pin out with the hinge still on the van, so I ended up unbolting it from the door and hammering out the pin while it was safely away from the glass.
Lmfaoo, "she's worried about the kids falling out and stiff like that", all casually. I laughed so hard at that.
"Let that be a learning lesson if they do." YES!
Ugh, my pin was seized into the plastic. Finally gave up and unbolted the whole assembly. And the door slipped off the jack. Pay attention when you're reattaching people. Great helpful video.
Nice video as always Eric! I hope Mrs. O gets well soon. :-)
LOL! This is so much better than TV! Who needs Netflix when you have... The O's
Great vid mate!
He a great mechanic and his videos are awesome,I've learned a lot from watching his videos and his family is awesome too..😉
Awww thanks for the support Heather!! Always appreciated!!
Your so welcome thanks for all the great videos and laughs
Really enjoying your videos. I wish i lived closer to your shop i would take my vehicles there. You do good work. I live about 2 hours away in Syracuse.
Very good video. This should help a lot of people. The job could be a real nightmare, without seeing this first. keep going.
Nice job Eric O. great video! now l need to go do this on both sides, let's see if l can pull it off!
we need to see miss o she is such a nice person your lucky
thanks man I fixed my door in about 20 minutes. Sure beat the other way that I saw other people doing it. thank God I didn't try it that way
Great video. Replaced mine in 45 mins! Thanks for the info
Eriiiic hey brother. AWSOME channel man. Thank you for all you do bro. I'm proud of you, keep mrs o out of trouble lol
Thank you this video saved me a bunch of time today. Made the replacement maybe a 10 minute job. And by the way a 3/8ths drive extension works perfect for knocking pin out. Thank you again very helpful as we dont see to many of these vans.
I just finished the install and it was very easy thanks to your video.
Perfect!
Without those marvelous games of " Fetch " what else would Eric do with all his free time ?
Excellent tip for the masses
Where is the video on the door closer motor? I'm trying to learn all I can about these doors as both of mine are about to crap out. I already saw the one on replacing the door motor. And WTH is the difference between the door motor and the door closer motor??? Agh. Too much to learn!

I have a 2014, the cable broke. The price to replace was ridiculous. Probably going to buy aftermarket cable on ebay. Thanks for the video.... 4 years later!
Geez- what a tough Customer! At least she's easy on the eyes, not bad- for a crazy cat lady with 3 kids in a minivan.
Haha
Crazy dog lady but yeah cats fits the stereotype more...
I like using a stock Jeep (YJ, TJ, XJ, ZJ) jack for doing door pins. It is like a bottle jack, but it uses gears or something instead of a pump, so you rotate it to go up and down. It gives alot more precision when lining up the pin.
One thing is for sure, I've seen enough of your Hondu videos to put me off ever getting the urge to purchase one, good luck.
Another satisfied customer.
Thank you Eric, now I can fix my wife van.
Get Well Mrs. O
Nice Job Mr. O
"Ever since you didn't do anything it's still broken." HAHA comedy gold! Love it
This have got to be a first...no brakleen and no power tools. Wow Honda used stainless steel bolts. Stainless steel bolts are usually used in Marine application, hence doesn't stick to magnets. Great video !
Nice improvising on tools I do like to use the plastic pry pars for trim pieces
You guys crack me up. Keep up the good work.
Get well soon Mrs O!!!!!
Merry Christmas to you and your family Eric
At 1:20 back hatch opens kennels appear. My first thought, well that'll keep the kids safe just fine. Forget the door.
Hope ya feel better soon Mrs O.
Oh she's quick Eric, that was good " since you haven't done anything, it's still broke" oh my god, too funny!!!!
LOL.... great vid !!! You guys are in such good spirits!!
Mike - That's because they DRANK the "good spirits" . lol .
Mrs. O makes the world a better place. Thanks for the share :)

Patiently waiting for Part II
Keep him in line Mrs. O!!
Hi Eric, you can make two number plates say "South Main Auto Repair" with magnet and stick them to the car that you work on, I think it will be cool.
Excellent video with humor, gotta love it ! 👍
Ever since you changed my oil my radio has been intermittent. You obviously broke it while working on my vehicle........Lol!
Nice repair. Could take a bit longer if the cir-clip goes flying!
Now I'll have to check with Scotty Kilmer how to do it right.....just kidding. Always love your videos.
i like the little chipmonk watching you from the left panel at 12.10 🤣🤣
Came through the comments to see if anybody else noticed it. I thought it was a owl!
always enjoy the videos you put out. nice trick!
Love it when a plan goes together.
Thanks for another great video. I like the way you tackle a job. Are you going to release a video on the door closer motor? The suspense is killing me.
Watch an SMA for very very long time why is it that you just replace the part that wasn't broken on your wife's van that has a lot of other things that are broken? Just so everybody knows I threw my back out 4 days ago so I've been watching SMA for 4 days anybody feel bad for me yet keep up the good work
Love the videos. Do you have any videos regarding a Rt sliding door off of its tracks, top and bottom?
I fixed one five minutes with a 5 dollar part I clipped the cables. Works fine now for an old van. I charged the guy a million dollars.
Lol she would never go to a dealer haha
