Shakespeare is definitely one of the main characters in Hamnet however he is just never referred to by his name! Other characters just refer to him by their relationship to him (Father, Husband, Son etc.) and during the parts of the book that are from his perspective, they are very internal and rarely contain conversations with other people. Hope this helps! I read this recently and LOVED IT and weirdly this choice not to give Shakespeare a name was actually one of my favorite parts as it meant as a reader we focus more on the other characters and his relationships with them :)

I didn't know about the 'no photos' rule for Shakespeare & Co bookstore. I was there in winter2008/2009. I certainly didn't see a sign, but maybe they didn't have the sign out yet because it was winter and they had less outdoor stuff. I first learned about the bookstore either from Jeanette Winterson (author I like) talking about it, or from seeing it in the movie Before Sunset. If you haven't seen the movies Before Sunrise, Before Sunset, Before Midnight (in that order), I think you'd really like them. They are Richard Linklater films and star Julie Delpy and Ethan Hawke (actually all 3 people co-wrote the second two films together). They are basically movies of conversation/dialogue. In the first film they meet for the first time in Vienna, Austria. In the second film they're in Paris, and in the third they're in Greece. Each film is set 9 years apart (filmed 9 years apart, and the actors' stories are also 9 years apart so the aging is realistic). I sought out the locations of where the characters visited (different scenes/locations), and when I went to Paris, my partner and I did a bit of a walking tour visiting the sites they were in (cafes, churches, streets, museums etc).
I'm from Porto and I'm so glad you enjoyed the city! I recognized those editions from Livraria Lello on the thumbnail, they are truly something :) So many interesting books you've bought, I'm defenetly gonna check them out

SO Ariel, Are you going to choose the new Goodreads colour for 2022?? I am just curious.
I live in Scotland and Waterstones is my happy place 😊❤️
As a portuguese I absolutely loved this video! So glad to know you liked Portugal❤️
Hamnet and Stasiland are both phenomenal - I’m so excited for you!
