Nice job gents! But as a 997.2-owner as well, I wonder why you did not change the water pump, thermostat and vacuum pump at this major overhaul. These are the next parts that gonna fail and especially all the coolant stuff is easy, when the engine is already dry as yours here. Just curious.
I believe they are in all the 996 40th anniversary edition cars, one of which I own, bought from FGP. The cost of this option was considerable (£6k - £7k) and it’s hard to imagine many people ticking that box. I have nothing to compare it with. My previous car, a 2016 Audi S3, felt faster off the line & at low speed, probably an illusion due to very good turbocharging. The 911 is such a peach under all other situations.
The x51 option was a 20 bhp power hike and was a standard part of the GTS package. As is often the case with Porsche, the power numbers don’t tell the real story. The x51 mods included high lift cams, resonance induction intake, redesigned air box (carbon fiber), machined and polished intake ports and a third radiator. Performance is virtually indistinguishable upto 6500rpm, but then power and torque improve to give a spine tingling shriek to the red line (unchanged at 7800). That character change from 6500 to 7800 is highly addictive and completely worth it.
@@I999-g2s That's the stuff! Yeah I asked AI to explain it to me and got the low down. I also saw some forum posts which mentioned the fact that instead of paying for the Powerpack people were better off opting to purchase a GTS. I'm not sure what the price difference is but that would explain why so few people opted to tick that particular box.
@leooneill1693 the 997.1 has the m97 engine. The 997.2 has a very different 9A1 engine with DFI and the elimination of the intermediate shaft. The mezgher engine (turbo and GT cars) was completely different again. These 3 engines share little in common with each other.
I understand the different types of engines, IMS and bore scoring etc on the m97. I had just never seen the upper and lower sump problems before, and wondered if they were across the ranges. Thank you for pointing that out though, I appreciate it.
Keep up the videos, love watching 997 maintenance, my journey maintaining has been 16 yrs and 150k miles. Merry xmas guys....and dog.
Great content!!!
awesome work, who wouldn't be happy with that 👌
An absolute beauty!
Great content as always 👍

What an awesome car and helpful video. Should I replace the expansion tank cap before it creates a crack?
Interesting, she’s a beaut! How often should the cap be changed every 3/4 years?l to prevent the tank cracking?
Lovely car, they were peak 911 for me.
I always watch your vids with keen interest. Very informative. One option I hardly ever see is the X51 Powerkit. Had any of those in the shop?

I looked back at their stock on the website and they have sold a 997 with the X51 Powerkit recently
@@HiruS22 So you're telling me there's hope! 😁
Another great video guys. Is the oil sump seal an issue on the .2 Turbo’s as well? Mine has a leak, trying to figure out where it’s coming from.
What a stunning car! One happy new owner I’d guess, just a shame the RH indicator doesn’t work 😢
I think you’re referring to the flickering sensation generated by a video recording of l.e.d lights, but thanks for your comment.
@ no just lack of indication right as he left!
All PASM S cars sit 10mm lower so nothing special there but it appears you may have a sport exhaust which would be a valuable option.
@jimgraves665 M030 sports chassis option lowers the car an additional 10mm. I hope this helps. Thanks for your comment.
@@friendsgreenporsche5234 THat must be a European thing... did not exist in the U.S.
Lovely car that one 😊
Lovely car, perfect spec. I have a 987.2 manual Boxster, after 11 years ownership and 145k miles I still love it.
Great video as always.
Does the 997.1 have the same upper and lower sump. Or the Metzger as in the turbos?
Many thanks.

May I ask does this problem affect 981 3.4 engine?
So, it was an external leak? or an internal one?
Very corroded dog 🤣
