I'm old enough to know what a carburettor is and how they work, but I didn't know the origin of the word. Everyday is a school day! Thanks Iain.

Not from "burette" ! See my comment above. It comes from "carbure", or carbide in English.

Being Danish myself, and having lived 6 years in the UK, I enjoyed this video ... but also recognized that the special Danish brand of humor doesn't always "translate" that well

Superb - I find myself saying that a lot on this channel. The tuning with the hose pipe is like borderline alchemy. When you think about how much metal is being thrown around in that engine, the coin on the rocker cover is just as impressive. Man! I love old engines...

Thanks Iain, that’s great to see you in action with those carbs.Having lived in France for the last 38 years,I have worked in garages,my collègue Joel, took his mechanics apprenticeship in an Alfa Romeo Dealership in Caen France, where I live.He started at the age of 14,tuned those carbs just like you, with ear ,rubber hose and screwdriver.
I had a Peugeot 205 Rallye at the time,he tuned my Webber’s with much, finesse when we put k&N competition air filters on too.noisy but great fun to drive,my son loved the sound.
His biggest task was tuning the Alfetta 6 engines, that had 6 carbs too, nearly a couple of hours to do sometimes for all servicing.
Thanks Iain, looking forward to more next year🙏

I am not ashamed to say that when you started that engine, a tear came to my eye as I remembered when way back in my youth, we tried the same thing with a GM 327 V8 and it, being not fastened down, rolled over on the floor but nothing was broken.

Deary me, very unexpected this one. How fantastic for making the event accessible here on YT for everyone to enjoy and experience. And I can only imagine tuning an engine like this just by human senses requiring years and years of experience. Of course sounds can be explained but, as with music, they do require years of undergoing them to be able to actually sense and distinguish all balances and delicacies. Thank you so much Iian for open publishing this happening.

Wonderful content as always. I will add a little background info to your mention of the Audi TT and its addition of a rear spoiler. The rear spoiler was added as part of a recall after the early TT's were delivered and not before initial production. This, in addition to a slight re-work of the rear suspension made the cars more stable at high speed. Back in 2000 I was working at the Bedford Autodrome and we were partially supported by Audi at the time. To compensate TT owners for having to recall their cars, Audi offered track experiences to customers which I was a part of. Many years later I became close friends with the original designer of the TT Freeman Thomas and he told me that the original design of the TT had a small rear spoiler that was to be deployed at speed to negate lift. That spoiler (very similar to the one the Turbo Beetle got) was axed by accounting to their peril and thus a necessary recall after some accidents was required.

Very impressive! Was/is the Muira running on an ethanol blended fuel. If so how was the carburetion modified to accommodate for the slower burning at lower inlet track speeds and for the lesser caloric value at higher inlet track speeds. Have you noticed a difference in the music between an ethanol fuel and an old type of five star fuel. Thanks.

They looked like stunned mullets. I wondered initially if their bosses had told them not to engage, laugh or smile. Eventually one or two did. The initial presenter seemed slightly sarcastic and patronizing towards Iain but maybe I was imagining things. Are the Danish people always so serious. My father was a Professor at university and he always said "when you lecture to a class, always use an engaging approach but if the audience is non responsive keep calm and carry on as though you talking to zombies. If the message gets across, we'll and good."

GREAT! to see you in my home country Iain, you a legend,
As a young mecanic I used to see my dad and his brother do this on old Alfas like 33 1,7 QV and Alfetta 2,0
It is a art form to master, and when a Webber car is propper dial in, it goes like nothing else, and the music it makes is out of this world.
    But the way nice watch.😉

Fun to be vicariously observing the running of that engine. I had as much fun watching you start the engine as when you were closing the trunk on the Standard Steel Bentley. Thank you.

A lovely audience from our neighbours, and a very conservative humour yet gave a great applaud to 006 engine giving a roar.
