I'm horrified of coming out to my parents. I mentioned the word Bi to my friends, and my Mom came in my room, saying shit like 'are you one of them? You better not be' or something along those lines. I had to say that I was just joking and she just laughed and walked out. From that day, I only told my friends, and at least they don't really care, and they support me. One day I will come out to my parents, but it defo won't to well.
My coming out as bi to my family was more "No you're not." and "We're not talking about it." Not heartbreaking, but far from accepting or positive. Like, I wasn't abandoned or disowned, but I was just..ignored. I was treated like I was lying.

i love the stranger things scene because not only is steve a teenager he is a teenager in the 80's, and he had a crush on robin when she told him but instead of getting mad and saying that "he could change that" he accepted her and made a joke. I love their friendship so much
4:36 the “holy shit” reaction from Steve was because it was seen as a bigger deal in the 80s (when the show is set) for anyone wondering. But it’s really good because Steve just takes it in, then instead of asking questions that he no doubt has or making it about him or whatever, he makes a joke because he knows that making Robin feel comfortable and accepted is more important right now.
I'm glad to see younger generations are so much more accepting. When I was a teen in the 90s it was way different. My closest friend then was bi but he never came out and I never told anyone because most people were real assholes about homosexuality then. I can't imagine how hard it would be to not be able to be yourself publicly about such an important part of your identity.

at the stranger things scene what people dont reealize is that that was back in the 80s people didnt assume that they are anything other than straight so steves reaction actually is good cause back then it was way different
The thing I think people forget about Robin's coming out is that it was the '80s. It was a much less accepting time and the middle of the AIDS crisis. Coming out was actually dangerous. There's a reason Robin says beforehand that if Steve really knew her he wouldn't like her at all. It makes Steve's acceptance all the more powerful.
So true !, even in the ST fandom people seems to forget that the show is set in the 80's !!!, so for a teenage boy to be so accepting it's sooo amazing !!.
@@giuliapicchiotti For real! I saw a tiktok about Steve not outing Robin to Dustin because it's not his place even though 'he knows Dustin would be accepting'. Does he?! Because in the '80s that was definitely not a given (I mean it's not a given now even but it was even less likely to be then).
I LOVE how Steve reacted to Robin coming out. No drama, no questions, just making fun of her lack of taste. Also loved how he supported her through the next season with her new crush
I know my opinion may be biased but one of my favorite coming out scenes of all time was in Stranger Things. Steve didn't judge Robin because she liked girls, he judged her for her type (without belittling her. They made it a joke and it was really sweet). That's what a true friendship looks like. Her mum being supportive but later on it shows that she actually struggled but she still wants to be there for her. The way the show handled elena's sexuality resonate with me so much, I cried so hard when the storyline came up
Daniel clearly hasn’t watched Heartstopper. We do get some representation in that show because the main characters bestie is a trans POC and her friend is a black lesbian.
Also in the books and possibly on the show Charlie is white and Latino. His father Julio is from Spain. On the show they have only shown his dad briefly but I think he was Latino. Hopefully in season two we will see more of this.
Literally. And also, this is a show about lgbt, so the race was literally irrelevant, as long as the story was depicted well. Not to mention it covers a lot of different identities throughout the show and the books
I didn't get the choice to come out to my parents. I told my younger brother because I felt like I trusted him. Told everyone in my family... I've never trusted him ever again. I felt so hurt, I told him not to tell anyone because I wasn't ready and he just ignores it. And that is why I have trust issues.
For time 1:44 for heartstopper- it’s a webtoon- so it was up to the artist who they wanted to make for their story and they did amazing. Plus they have a black trans women which isn’t very seen in other webtoons/books a lot- they also have an asian ally and two lesbians which one is white and another is African American girls. This webtoon to me- is a very wide variety of characters/people that we don’t normally get to see- and I’m si happy they were able to make it into a live version🙌🏻
um the guy said there needs to be more representation talking about the fact that they're 2 white men. tara is black, sahar is latino i believe, still not white though, elle is black as well and finally tao is asian.
Yh also I swear Charlie is half Spanish half white? So I really don't understand what that guy was trying to say - there is just so much different representation in Heartstopper.

Yea that kind of annoyed me. But in fairness, it sounds like they probably haven't watched the show so they wouldn't know how diverse it actually is. I've noticed this problem with Gen Z though... they are quick to react and have an opinion, without actually doing any research first.

As a parent of a hetero child, a pan child, and a trans child, I am grateful for all of the representation found in media, now. I have seen, and enjoyed, most of the programs referenced in this episode, and really appreciate the way each story is told. Bravo, for having this REACTS episode.
Daniel seems really sweet, but I think they(he? However they identify) need to calm down on calling everybody out for under-representing or underappreciating racial minorities. Or at least Heartstopper--yes, the two leads were white boys, but the cast overall is actually fairly diverse.
yes, when they said that I was like what? You haven't seen heartstopper, have you? yes there needs to be representation, but heartstopper literally has that...
heartstopper has been my entire personality for the past week so the second i saw heartstopper i immediately clicked. you should do a full heartstopper episode tbh. would probably do well. also, i love izzy so much.
“It just makes cry, cause it was never that easy” exactly, that’s how I feel rn, cause even though we are now in new times and my mom accepts me as bisexual, idk how my dad will react, idk how they will react to me being trans, I feel so… alone.
I went to my mum last summer freaking out thinking I was broken because while I was emotionally attracted to guys I wasn't sexually attracted to them and she was like "you know what you need to say! Just say it!" and I think I went through every variation of "I'm a lesbian" without actually saying the words before finally speaking my truth. Like internalized homophobia is no joke y'all! Her and my dad were like "we've known since you were 10..." They were just waiting for me to realise it xxx
i feel danny bc like it's hard being a lesbian and like coming out to my mom i expected her to accept me. boy was i so wrong she said the worst thing any queer person would want to hear she said "it's just a phase" and that stuff crushes you that basically told me that i was not accepted by her so now i live my life closeted and have to pretend to be straight and avoid questions abt who i like and stuff like that it's just so hard when ur family doesn't accept who u r. it's just sad and it just sometimes makes me just want to cry because that's not how a 13 year old should feel, like they r not accepted for who they truly are.
I am a mother of 5. The ages run from 16 almost 17 to 5 being the youngest. I tell them all the time. No matter who the love I don't care as long as they love them and respect them. The first person I came out to as bi was my father. I actually loved his reaction. He was a hippy, but still sort of old school. He had no clue, for starters. The first words out of his mouth was to not to bring any guys home for at least a week so he could process the idea. I gave him two. I brought Trever home, and we all drank, ate pizza, listened to music, and proved our ineptitude at Nintendo for a few hours. No cringe, whatsoever... apart from the Nintendo... My mother... was silent. She gave a 'yeah, I get it' sort of reaction, and suggested I go to church with her... Now, it's sort of an understood fact, that never gets brought up... ever. My siblings, and my grandmother just knew all along... no surprise there... and my aunt was fine with anything she could use as a punchline... also no surprise there.
2:18 My Mom was the last to know, because I lived with her, and I thought if I told her she would disown me, because her culture is very strict with stuff like that, but when I told her while I was balling my eyes she said, "Stop crying like a baby, I love you no matter what, and I don't care", I started laughing, but also crying more 😂😂
When I came out to my best friend of like 10 years, the one I was most nervous to come out to as trans, the first thing he said to me was "what's your name?" Still makes me cry to this day it was the best thing I'd ever heard
Its so stupid this woke culture. I am literally brown. And if he had watched the drama Heartstopper he would have known how much representation the show actually has. When people say things like this makes me cringe. And makes them look utterly stupid. And it discredits the characters of the show.

@@rayzzitt4907 never said it was the biggest…I said there’s SOME. Honestly representation isn’t a huge deal for me even though I’m a black pan woman.
@@SageWolf219 BTW I'm a brown omnisexual transgirl. I actually haven't decided my name yet so....
Literally. And also, this is a show about lgbt, so the race was literally irrelevant, as long as the story was depicted well. Not to mention it covers a lot of different identities throughout the show and the books
Danny boy: i’m disappointed that the two main characters are two white males
Me: there’s Tara and Elle
And Charlie is Latino
That’s what I was saying! He obviously didn’t watch the show at all.
Actually, he's half Latino/White, but yes, he has both cultural attributes.
Charlie is half Spanish, his father's side of his family comes Spain.
Sorry but heartstopper is my favorite one for sure. I also read the commics and it's so amazing
Same
I didn't get the choice to come out to my parents. I told my younger brother because I felt like I trusted him. Told everyone in my family... I've never trusted him ever again. I felt so hurt, I told him not to tell anyone because I wasn't ready and he just ignores it. And that is why I have trust issues.
Nick’s coming out scene always gets me all teary eyed 🥹🥹🥹
For time 1:44 for heartstopper- it’s a webtoon- so it was up to the artist who they wanted to make for their story and they did amazing. Plus they have a black trans women which isn’t very seen in other webtoons/books a lot- they also have an asian ally and two lesbians which one is white and another is African American girls. This webtoon to me- is a very wide variety of characters/people that we don’t normally get to see- and I’m si happy they were able to make it into a live version🙌🏻
Izzy is really out here trying to give Bridget and the WHOLE internet her number 😭😂😂😂
um the guy said there needs to be more representation talking about the fact that they're 2 white men. tara is black, sahar is latino i believe, still not white though, elle is black as well and finally tao is asian.
Yh also I swear Charlie is half Spanish half white? So I really don't understand what that guy was trying to say - there is just so much different representation in Heartstopper.
@@blueleung1999 he's spanish but I think he's spanish like european, like spain. at least in the series he's not like from mexico for example. but yeah there's so much representation
A friendly reminder, people will never be happy with anything. They will just keep complaining.

what makes the scene from stranger things even more powerful is that it’s based in the 80’s and people weren’t as accepting back then
"powerful" lol no offense to you but I don't think coming out is powerful at all
@@andrewpatterson3703 your opinion 🤷♂️

Honestly, when I was first watching it and Robin came out, I physically gasped. Didn’t expect there to be a queer character because of the setting. Love that they had the representation though!
@@julia_biss yep it is, it's also the opinion of many, which is why shows like Stranger Things are tanking... Not trying to be a jerk or anything, but this push for "inclusivity" in everything is ruining creativity
Charlie’s half Hispanic tho- and there’s a TON of different colors in Heartstopper!
Spanish, so still white...
@@ashildrtheswift3028to further clarify, Spanish so European, and thus white.
I'm 59 and totally understand how Sharon feels that things were so different in our generation.... So glad it's a little better now and that there is so much more representation in the media. The govt is still trying to hold us back, so we have a long way to go still...
Imagine complaining that the two main characters are white when there’s SO much other great representation in this tv show.
Exacly 😪
Im annoyed by that comment too
Yea that kind of annoyed me. But in fairness, it sounds like they probably haven't watched the show so they wouldn't know how diverse it actually is. I've noticed this problem with Gen Z though... they are quick to react and have an opinion, without actually doing any research first.
@@PowerDiva hey grouping Gen Z together its not fair too.. its just him not all GenZ like this
@@TheTsuha its not just this one person.... its them and many others of that generation. Maybe not every single one, but enough to correlate it as a common trait among Gen Z
Those who don't know stranger things story was back then 1985 situation..So actor react regrading during that timeframe
“Moms always know” cut to “my mom didnt have a CLUE” 😭
they dont know that steve just told her that he had a crush on her and its the 80s so his reaction is amazing for someone in the 80s
Yes! Im sure there is a white bisexual boy out there figuring himself out and feeling he’s very much represented in Heartstopper..
Take Tara for example. Also Tao and Elle, (and I know Tao's straight, but you know.)
@@theauthor1238 probably there is also a straight Asian boy watching.. 😃
Elle could be a representation. She's a black Trans girl in the show.
yes, when they said that I was like what? You haven't seen heartstopper, have you? yes there needs to be representation, but heartstopper literally has that...
heartstopper has been my entire personality for the past week so the second i saw heartstopper i immediately clicked. you should do a full heartstopper episode tbh. would probably do well. also, i love izzy so much.
Seconded on a full Heartstopper episode!
When I tell you I STARTED SOBBING when Nick came out to his mom in Heartstopper. I started BAWLING in my dorm room in front of both my roommates
“He’s so pure and stupid!” Yes. Yes he is
I loved the moment in sex education where they talk about asexuality and how there’s nothing with with being ace. Made me feel seen
sameeee
2:32 my mom passed away shortly before I realized I’m gay. I feel this
Im so sorry
every single time I see that clip of nick coming out to his mom I cry! Incredibly well delivered, everyone deserves a mother like that.💖💜💙
sharon crying really had me in a chokehold because she's always the person who spreads the happiest vibes, i love her.
Super happy that Nicks coming out scene was #1 on the list! I nearly cried when I was that scene
My girl izzie shooting her shot I JUST SAW THE ENDING OMFG XD
i feel danny bc like it's hard being a lesbian and like coming out to my mom i expected her to accept me. boy was i so wrong she said the worst thing any queer person would want to hear she said "it's just a phase" and that stuff crushes you that basically told me that i was not accepted by her so now i live my life closeted and have to pretend to be straight and avoid questions abt who i like and stuff like that it's just so hard when ur family doesn't accept who u r. it's just sad and it just sometimes makes me just want to cry because that's not how a 13 year old should feel, like they r not accepted for who they truly are.
I hope things get better
It's so nice to see Sharon's vulnerable side. It's so sweet
I am a mother of 5. The ages run from 16 almost 17 to 5 being the youngest. I tell them all the time. No matter who the love I don't care as long as they love them and respect them. It shouldn't matter. A relationship is a give and take thing. I also tell them that if they want to go from a boy to a girl, or girl to a boy or whatever is between that's fine too. I'll love them.
I don't even watch Stranger Things, but that scene with Will and Mike in the car made me tear up.

Ok the person who said that they are disappointed that the two main leads are white 1st off there is so much representation in that show and they don’t know what they are talking about 2nd IN THE COMICS CHARLIE IS LITERALLY TAN- OR LIKE A BROWNISH COLOR HE IS NOT WHITE- i hate how people just say things without knowing the full story.

The heartstopper one was my exact favorite
Izzy is like a mini-Sharon. I love them both. 😂
Not Izzy being the most iconic person in this channel aka my whole mood 👍

Its so stupid this woke culture. I am literally brown. And if he had watched the drama Heartstopper he would have known how much representation the show actually has. When people say things like this makes me cringe. And makes them look utterly stupid. And it discredits the characters of the show.
