Yesterday (09-08-2010) my wife and I saw Jerry Lee perform on TV. At the age of 75; Jerry slurs a little when he talks; but when he plays that piano and sings; MAN OH MAN; he's still got it!! THANKS for Post.
"This is Jerry Lee Country Music Side". Great Voice, perfect piano, fine studio musicians with all respect to Don Gibson composition (I has the honor to speak of this with Don Gibson AND Jerry Lee at Frankfurt (Germany) Country Festival in the 80'S after Wembley Festival. Thank's for this Song. JO
Didn't know JLL recorded this one until now. Of course, it is another masterpiece by the greatest vocal and piano performer of all time. And the name of your channel makes a true statement. Jerry Lee rules. The universe, that is, when it comes to vocal and piano. Thanks for the audio and the pix.
Jerry Lee, Gene, Moon Mullican, Hank Williams, Bessie Smith, Robert Johnson and so many more are irreplaceable icons in the blues music of America. And I am proud to have learned this music and they inspired so much good times.
Just beautiful- from 1968 - 1986 Jerry was the BEST singer of ballads and country soul! That was his true forte- and he was the best. What a talent! This song brings such a flow of tears- my heart breaks every time I hear it. Yeah!
What can you say about Jerry Lee - he'd make the devil cry. It's good to hear that Gene Vincent is also a hero of yours. He's one of mine too! I just wish he'd receive more recognition for his outstanding contribution to rock'n'roll.
I think Jerry-Lee really excells at country music. He is brilliant at rock-&-roll but country was to me, an unexpected surprise when I heard him perform it. He is simply a truly fantastic singer ... excellent ... :o)
This guy can do ANY song and kick ass! I'm just going through and picking songs I wouldn't usually pick to listen to, just to see how The JLL does them. What can I say? He makes everyone of them his own, and, KILLER!
I love this song by Jerry - he laid everything he had into his vocal and piano playing. The steel guitar part also is a uniqwue sound for a steel guitar. It sounds particularly sad. I had my heart broke after splitting up with my first love as a teenager, and I would turn this song on and repeat it over and over again, crying my eyes out over my loss. But listening to this song, and others of love and loss on that album was like medicine, and helped me get over her eventually. Jerry, aka Dr. Love!
@WilliamOKJones Don Gibson wrote and recorded it in 1956, Faron Young recorded it in 1960. Patsy Cline recorded it in February of 1963, two months before her untimely death on March 5th. It became a big crossover hit for Patsy, making it to #5 on the Country charts and to #44 on the pop music charts. It has been recorded many times since 1963. Tammy Wynette, Loretta Lynn, Emmylou Harris, and Linda Ronstadt.
@onebaud :First thing you need to do is learn to Read English. I stated Jerry Lee was 75 (not me) and Jerry Lee still has it. I paid Jerry Lee a compliment.
He had the best rendition of every song he sang- unbelievable talent- the likes of him will never come again!

The Killer goes! The other pole to Patsy's rendition, a fresh look at this immortal Don Gibson's masterpiece.

Oops, that "rare" photo at 0:45 looks to be "Photo-Shopped."
Still, great to hear the great song with a rare past sung by a rare talent.

Patsy Cline does a fantastic cover, but is this the song Don Gibson wrote?
@theoperes
Elvis was a great performer but not as influential in or on country music as The Killer, Carl Perkins, Chuck Berry and the great Buddy Holly! !
Don Gibson song ain't it?
Arrest me if I'm wrong... 😆
