    I miss the era of TNG, the production team for TNG actually hired a scientific consultant to assist the writers in creating believable sounding techno babble. In STD they just ramble some scientific words but it doesn't make sense.

      Lens Flare Incorporated refuses to employ anyone with enough science education to know that lens flare requires a lens to be flaring off of.

    • @Lukas-Trnka
      @Lukas-Trnka Місяць тому +22

      It is actually not about the scientific consultants. (I actually think they still have some now.) The problem is different; original writers were mature enough to write adult and competent sounding characters even when the consultants were not around. This is problem of imature writers. Scientific consultants alone wouldn't be able to improve this.

    the cringiest part is that the words they're using are actually real mathematical but the way they're using them doesn't make sense. "harmonic resonance" is just a needlessly complicated way of saying that one signal's frequency is an intenger-multiple of the other signal's frequency. It doesn't in any way make sense to use that to match another system's frequency. And since Adira is easily capable of observing that the frequency is 8.4 Hz (which is ridiculously low in most contexts) then there's no reason why the Breen should need any special techniques to make the same observation. They just have to make their shields cycle at 8.4 Hz.
    Granted, it's not supposed to make sense just sound complicated, but somebody should notify the DSC writers that using real words instead of made-up words only makes you sound smarter if you use them in a way that make sense.

    • @TheNoiseySpectator
      @TheNoiseySpectator Місяць тому

      Ah, in that case I have a question for you.
      What _are_ "tachyons" in real life?

    • @snickerbockers5988
      @snickerbockers5988 Місяць тому

      @@TheNoiseySpectator I have no idea, but it doesn't matter what tachyons are or whether they even exist IRL because signals are an abstract mathematical construct not a physical construct. The equations and terms used to describe them do not change based on the underlying medium.
      If you mean to imply that "harmonic resonance" might mean something else within the context of tachyons, my response would be to say that is inherently contradictory because it's like trying to argue that counting doesn't work the same when the objects being counted are tachyons.

    By Crom the references you come up with. And the fact that you can still sit through STD is a monument to dedication. Once STD and Bad Robot began actually harming my love of the OS, TNG and DS9 I was out. SNW had a good run (of one season) but I'm out.

    Thumbnail brutal but lets be blunt why is Tilly the only one overweight ?
    more important if she's going to be a lead in the new series, Seriously?
    After the Burn I gave up on this show and had no idea all the bridge crew had left
    until I saw the other upload. From what i've seen on DS Book is only back to make the numbers up. This series had to much potential and they ruined it, Why they are so against
    making a show directly after Picard is just madness, Fans want to know the current situation, The sooner Discovery ends the better. You know the main characters are going
    to appear in Academy
