Luigi's carachter from "Cars" is modeled on the working class italian that drives a 500 but faints when sees a Ferrari that dreams every night but will be never be able to afford. A very similar story of the even more successful VW Beetle.

ルパン三世って子供の頃は純粋に楽しんで観ていたけど40代のオッサンになって観るとオシャレな作品やなぁと、思う。とくにpart1.2は作風は違えど1970年代のファッションや車や時計や銃等細かい凝った演出そして劇中のBGM現在は名探偵コナンでもお馴染み元スパイダースの大野さんは最高ですね。

記憶が正しければpart2のラストシーンで流れていたような気がします。小学生の頃夕方の再放送で観ていました、小学生が観るには、かっこよすぎるラストシーン、数あるアニメ作品の中でも名シーンの一つだと思います。

今考えると(表現こそ弱めているけど)アウトロー感やエロティズムをテレビアニメに持ち込んだ製作陣の判断は、正直掛けだったと思う。また、凝ったメカ表現(大塚康生さんが貢献されている)やPARTS 2以降で音楽を担当された大野雄二さんのジャズセンスが、ハイセンスなアニメーションとして他と一線を画したと思う。
また、現在に続く人気を決定付けたのが、宮崎駿監督の『カリオストロの城』。
もともと、テレビがイタリア映画の黄金の七人(登場人物がおしゃれな泥棒)という60年代の映画をモチーフに手掛けられていた為、公開当初カリオストロの城は、期待されたルパンのエロティズムは抑えられ、古城での追っかけや姫様が登場するストーリーにルパンファンが付いて行けず、興行は惨敗し、宮崎監督が干されるきっかけになった。後年、テレビでの放送や風の谷のナウシカで一躍有名になった事で見直され、屈指の作品になったけど、製作期間5ヶ月(構想、脚本、作画、演出、アフレコ、編集)であのクオリティというのが凄過ぎる。
ハイジや母を訪ねて三千里で、場面設計を担当していた宮崎駿監督は、海外にロケハンし、リアリティのある風景描写を得意とし、カリオストロの城でも遺憾なく発揮されている。(他の作品では見る事のない場面が多い。フィアット500で崖を駆け上がるシーンがその代表)
