In this hair-raising chase scene from LUPIN III: THE FIRST, Jigen and Goemon spring Lupin from the clutches of Zenigata and his minions. Watch out Lupin, it's gonna be a bumpy ride! 🚨💥
The iconic “gentleman thief” Lupin III returns in an action-packed, continent-spanning adventure, as Lupin III and his colorful underworld companions race to uncover the secrets of the mysterious Bresson Diary, before it falls into the hands of a dark cabal that will stop at nothing to resurrect the Third Reich. The gang undertakes trap-filled tombs, aerial escapades and daring prison escapes with the trademark wit and visual finesse that have made LUPIN THE 3RD one of the most storied animation franchises in the world, in a thrilling new caper that is sure to delight fans old and new.
So to pull off that stunt, Jigen would have to know:
- Where the bolts on the sign are
- Which direction they're threaded
- How fast his bullets travel
- Which bolts to shoot first
If that doesn't illustrate how good a marksman Jigen is, nothing will.
I mean... This is standard Jigen. All I can do looking at this is just laugh at how amazing it is.
And he did it without looking
@@ThompsonExpress True. He took one glance at it and went, "Alright [BANG BANG BABG BANG]"
Goemon: "Oh sure, I'll just slice an entire armored vehicle in half while it's in midair, but JIGEN will get all the attention for his aim, not my absolute godlike strength and accuracy to not murder anyone in the van."
They don't call him "The Master of The Magnum" for nothing.
Can we talk about Jigen’s driving in this scene? He checks his mirror before he fires his gun, and checks behind him to make sure he’s not gonna run into anyone.

Ok, so I've never ever watched Lupin III but this scene is absolutely excellent. You could open the movie on this scene and I'd be 100% up to speed on all these characters, their personalities, their relationships and their situation.
I agree! This scene establishes every important role and dynamic the characters have in both a very efficient and ridiculously entertaining way, and all that without any exposition! Love this film.
Castle of cagliostro is perfect intro to the fandom
Watch sherlock hound too it has the same energy.
And 1971-85 Japanese TV anime series are even better. IMO, characters look cuter. I grew up watching it every evening and had a crush on Lupin.
Well, actually Jigen and Goemon first appear in this scene and don't really get further introduction.
Top 3 Jigen flexes:
3: Winning a 1 v 50 against a heavily armed Interpol convoy that had helicopters and APCs all while completely unscathed
2: shooting a bolt off of a sniper rifle from a quarter mile away while making the jolt from the impact slightly move the gun right as the sniper was about to shoot Lupin and instead hit an enemy
1: shooting the screws off of a sign while driving a car in reverse using only a rear view mirror to see
@@marcofalegnami part 5 with the sniper battle
I like he just waits after the cops shoot and miss him, then takes two shots and kills them both, while driving backwards. That will definitely give scary Harry a big scare.
Personally I believe Jigen’s best moment in the whole franchise was when he crashed the Cagliostro wedding by shooting up the place with an anti-tank rifle.

Man, CGI hasn't looked this good in a while.
For me, CGI has never looked good before now.
@@LikaLaruku It is amazing CG from Japan. I still think Gantz 0 and FF Kingsglaive had the best CG from Japan. And my favorite CG movie is Spiderman into the Spider verse.
I think it has largely to do with the exaggeration. A reason CGI looks wack sometimes is because they try too hard to make it look like Anime or Reality.

I love how they paid attention to details, especially the attention of only using 6 shots and not infinite ammo that's reloaded without us seeing it
Do you have any idea how hard it is to reload a Smith and Wesson Model 19, or similar revolver, while driving? You’d need one hand holding the revolver, one holding the ammo, and at least one more holding the wheel! Makes sense he’d forego reloading in favor of making each shot count!
@@TheAKgunner I'd imagine it'd be very hard to reload any type of firearm while driving, a revolver just makes it a lot harder lol
@@JamesZ32100 This is true.
@@JamesZ32100 it is indeed very difficult I once witnessed one fool trying to reload one handed while driving a motorcycle
@@mustachia How badly did it go?
This scene is perfect. You learn exactly what kind of movie this is and the rules the world plays by (realistic enough to shoot out tires, unrealistic enough that a sword can cut through a van), you learn about Zenigata's relationship with Lupin (the marker thing), you learn about Lupin's friends and their skills, and you learn that Zenigata is very familiar with the gang. It's just...flawless.
Yeah I know barely anything about Lupin the Third yet I love every single aspect of this scene despite that
Mind you, the sword can cut through that van partly because it's wielded by an ace swordsman, and partly because it's made of some manner of meteoric metal, and clearly forged by a swordsmith who knew his stuff.

Loved the animation, hated the typical japanese tropes. So much awkward moaning and grunting to convey shock/amazement. It felt like watching someone trying really hard to be a caricature.

0:29 - Give the sound engineer a raise for letting us all know that Fiat 500 has a turbo with that deft little dump valve SFX. Yet another little detail that makes this outing that much more spectacular. Fantastic.

It probably has more than the factory 2 cylinders at this point lol. It sounds like a pitched up v8 at certain points
Every object from the character's physical bodies down to the vehicles and bullets looks alive, there's this incredible energy in the way things move.
I agree ahhh!! I absolutely admire the animators for putting in such great detail, the way jigen checks his mirrors, the way goemon misses grabbing the top of the window as hes on the roof of the fiat for a split second, i just absolutely love this scene!!! Has to be my favorite from this movie, i wished the entire movie was just like this scene, i didnt care for the story :0( but man they outdid themselves here, and so did sound design LIKE DUDE!!! U COULD FEEL EVERYTHING
I know this series is really old, but something about this 3D adaptation makes it feel very Team Fortress-y and I like it. The art style, the music, the ridiculous scenarios, they way all the characters are these exaggerated stereotypes of themselves that feel like they could be alternate TF2 classes.
Okay, TF2 characters as Lupin the Third characters, go.

Sniper as Jigen

must also be the 60s aesthetic too since TF2 takes place in late 60s/early 70s
@@kaelisprime9087 It's kind of funny to think the Lupin III series was actually first published in 1967, a year before TF2 is set. Lupin III has the authentic 60/70s aesthetic because that's when it was actually created, while TF2 is a modern interpretation of that aesthetic.
Demoknight as goemon
I love the way they reveal Jigen and Goemon at 0:20. It's like they knew people would be anticipating them so they knew to give them a badass entrance.

Doug Erholtz kinda resembles Japan’s version (Koichi Yamadera) of Zenigata with the way he grunts and makes noises.
And his movement kinda reminds me of Doctor Eggman’s 😂
Doug makes it sound like Dan Lorge (Zenigata's previous VA) never retired.
That last part is funny when you consider that Zenigata's VA in the pilot film, the late Chikao Otsuka, also voiced Eggman from 1998 up until his death in 2015.
Worlds first choreographed musical cgi car chase, even when Goemon clicks his blade, it is right on the beat!!-!
Pixar levels of quality in this animation. Translating the original anime style to CGI must not have been easy but the results speak for itself.

It’s a good job he didn’t accidentally kill anyone in this slice.
Better CGI than Marvel has these days
This was just a masterpiece of a film, dubbed or not, ANIME or not, it’s a fricken award winner
now THIS is a awesome CGI anime
So I recently bought a good set of headphones and can share some observations: the Fiat's engine sound seems to be a Subaru turbo boxer with equal length headers. Sure would explain a lot. Props to the sound design: the tire squeal sound design for the entire scene is amazing. The transmission's straight cut reverse gear whines at the perfect moment. It sounds like the car has two reverse gears at one moment though, which is entirely possible both mechanically and given the speed Jigen goes in that moment. Except the transmission would have taken the entire rear seat in that case, but it's still a nice touch.
I'm Japanese. I'm surprised how similar the characters' voices sound to the original voices
You'd be surprised just how popular the dub is over here. I'd recommend checking out the Part 2 dub, maybe some Sub vs Dub on it too. Though Zenigata there has a different VA. He got a different VA because the Part 2 guy retired from VAing.
Jigen really is just the definition of cool.
The lighting here is incredible. It looks both hyper-real and... regular-real? Point is, it's _good._
Okay, this film is the epitome of simplicity in story, but God damn is it just pure awe and joy to look at. Absolute fucking magic!
Funny how Goemon jumped forward a significant distance and still somehow landed back where he started.
Jigen slowed down to catch him and get behind the police van to catch lupin as he made his escape
The car braked and when he landed the car was below him. It braked to stay with him
If I had a dollar for every time I've watched this scene, I'd be pretty damn rich. But I've never seen the English dub version. Good to hear this cast 😊

Some people here concerned with the "logic" behind the stunts we just watched... it's a damn movie, man!!! Hollywood shows us the same type of impossible, ilogic stunts all the time, and that is why we go to the movies and buy Blue Rays and DVDs!! It's dumb and asinine to question impossible shit we see in movies, just get excited, enjoy it, and let movie magic take you out of your probably boring reality, at least for a while. Analizing and overthinking will just ruin the fun, for everyone!!
Exactly. The over the top nature is part of the charm of this series, you're meant to get excited when Jigen pulls off some insane shot or Goemon slices something in half that there's no way his sword could reach, much less cut. It's pure dumb fun and that's the whole point of it. Lupin and the gang getting into and out of trouble in wacky ways with Zenigata hot on their trail.
I'm convinced Jigen has the same ability as Arthur Morgan: Dead Eye.
Nothing like having the 2 most skilled badasses in the world as your best friends and compadres.
Something about the sound work on that Fiat 500. Did anyone else hear the turbo flutter when Jigen first put the car in reverse and accelerated quickly?
