it is very very helpful that you differentiate the fungal versus the bacterial Fin rot, because that is an important distinction when you decide what to use for treatment
So I purchased a female veitali betta from pet smart had short fins in the cup beautiful fish. Anyways i got it because I heard long fin bettas have some issues and I’m new to the hobby. My betta is in a 5 gallon tank and now her fins are double the size and grew. Is that normal? I think it looks great but if something sounds off definitely let me know!
Yes, it’s normal to get fins grow once they are in healthy tank environment compare to petstore cups. Sometimes, fins looks small when betta in stress at petstore. Great to hear your betta is happy in his tank. always watchout for tank environment quality as pointed in this video. Happy pet keeping! Thanks for your comment.
Hey was gifted what I thought was a crown tail betta. Never owned a fish before, so water was not cycled and only in a 7L tank. The person who got the fish visited and informed me the fin looked bad and it used to be much fuller although they can't recall the species. Kinda made it out it was more of a combtail or delta, I can't see any signs of fin rot. No coloured spots and it eats, swims like it always had, Do regular checks on the water parameters (3 to 4 days) and levels are all good aside from couple Nitrate level spikes due to over feeding (i think) now only feed once a day 6 pellets and Nitrate is sitting 0-5ppm. Sorry for big winded comment but would treating it with fin rot if it doesnt have it cause any problems, other than salt treatment what else could I do? The tank would be almost 2 months old now, so water should be almost cycled right?
Thanks for your detailed comment. 2 months is long for 7L tank, I would recommend for water change unless it’s heavily planted tank. Crowntail are unique breed, you can easily spot the differences. Check below videos to know crowntail, identifying and treating fin damage. Hope it helps! ua-cam.com/video/ddhUQtK7MrI/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/BY_OosOB-rs/v-deo.html
Hello! I had 4 tetras and 1 betta in 8L of water. 4 days back I spotted ich on them and treated them with methylene blue and rock salt. But soon I started to notice betta was not at all active and some tiny bits of it's fins were falling away. I immediately shifted it to a different tank and added some rock salt and methylene blue drops. It's quite small (the tank), 1L maybe? Now all the white spots are gone but still it's fins are falling away. What should I do? I feed it 5 pellets a day at the same time but it's eating only one 😢 what do I doooo? 😞
Again can i contact you as ia am new i shall send u the videos then you may suggest me better !! I have the video when i bought my betta and todays video you may analyze better !! And please help me saving my betta
Please post video at FB Tamil aqua group to help. Also you can post in insta by tagging #tamilaquadiary. Hope he will be better soon. Sorry for late reply.
My betta has a few millimeters maybe 3-4 millimeters of clear fins and I cant tell if this is just growing fins because he is a juvenile or he has fin rot. Any suggestions? Thank you
My veil tail betta is suffering from fin rot disease he lost all his dorsal fin and now the root of dorsal fin means the surface of its body looks damage and white patches are there the scales of the fish of that region also falling off.. i was using a medicine named as MALACHITE GREEN F but i think its not working plz gives some suggestions😐

Hi! I know you aren’t a vet but I have a 1 1/2 year old betta and he’s not doing too well…. He’s sitting at the bottom of the tank, he looks a lot smaller, he isn’t eating as much. I just dont know what to do and it’s making me really upset. Should I do a water change?! To me it looks a bit like fin rot bc his fins look a lot different. Also his water isn’t looking that great either. I just did a test. He’s not looking too great Thank you!
@@aquadiaryofficial he’s usually never in the bottom. He’s usually at the middle. I have a filter that I something turn on. His tank it like 3 gallons or so. No heater. He’s kinda on his side rn

Finrot was cured but.. after it recovered it died without food consumption.. water change was done after treatment.. what could it be.. bettas with biger fins are not high life span or should we keep in medicacine all the time.. kindly suggest
Food consumption is different issue to hadle.. he must eat all the time even on treatment. It’s hard to tell what went wrong for me without pictures or clarity on tank setup. RIP 😕
Hii, I got my betta fish from a pet store he was healthy when I bought but after a week or so he started developing fin rot as this way my time having my betta I didnt really see what was happening to him until it progressed. His fins are almost damaged but he is active. I have a pot of 6 litre without filter and heater capacity and I change water once a week and add indian badam leaf to it for maintiang the pH. I bought paracidol fw in hoping to treat the fin rot but dont know how to use it. Can you please help?
It’s primarily for parasite infections. You got to know, what causes finrot. Usage is simple. Add tablespoon of it(based on your tank size, follow directions in bottle), repeat the steps every other day by changing 50% of water.

My Betta is having reocurring finrot. I can't figure out what it is, I treat the tank with antibiotics and aquarium salt. He heals. Then about 2 months later it happens again. I think I need to clean the tank with boiling water or something (of course with my Betta out)
Yes, if finrot getting better and coming back… mostly because of tank. Once fish showing recover signs… you need wash tank, gravels, filter, all decorations in hot water to make sure they are clean.

Is there a Homemade cure for fin rot?
Non iodine salt (aquarium salt) works better. Move to smaller tank and change water daily basis for a week.
