    Picked a 6" up "used" in 2019 right before the lockdowns for $580. The shop owner said the guy who traded it in bought it brand new put 18 rounds through it didn't like it so he traded it in. For what I don't know. It was clean as a whistle and didn't have amark on it so I definitely got myself a good deal.

      Guns in cali are so much. Sometimes old/vintage is cheaper when the owner doesnt know, but then the shop will mark if up. Ive gotten a few good deals but nothing stellar.
      U recommend the small shops? What state?

      I did the same. Brand new was only a few$ more than what you paid. However it’s 900 today and stainless is a grand here in cali.

    This is one of my first guns, left to me by my father. It's a hand cannon and a beast for sure, you can slap a scope on this bad boy and easily go hunting with it. the 357 Magnum round is no joke. It will always hold a special sentimental place in my heart after I learned the gun was made the exact year I was born and my mother confirmed that dad bought it when I was born as family protection. Love ya Mixup, You rock!

    Got a GP100 bought from a pawn shop back in the late 80s. Lady I bought it from carried it up until two years ago and sold it to me. Love that gun.

  • @davidmorris4353
    @davidmorris4353 7 місяців тому +3

    My GP100 (that I purchased in the eighties) has finally reached its full potential! I have installed Wilson combat hammer and trigger springs and polished(not filed) the sear engagement surfaces as well as the hammer dog, ( gotta be careful with the dog, ask me how I know?).
    Micro stainless steel hammer shims have been installed bringing the hammer function into the realm of a competition revolver and hammer centering on both sides of the hammer at full cock is to within .001 inches. Hogue PAU FERRO CHECKERED grips!
    It now operates in single action as slick as Teflon coated BB's rolling down a sheet of plate glass. The trigger is an exceptional 2.2 lbs. in single action. Double action is so smooth and slick it is mind blowing.
    My accuracy with this amazing weapon has improved with these refinements to the point that I now hunt whitetails with it here in West Texas using handloads loaded to the 357 MAXIMUM Configuration. Double Tap 200GR HARDCAST SOLID with a custom cannelure rolled into the bullet and set out to 357 Maximum length allowing my load of H110 to push it out to screaming velocities.
    This is the round I will carry in my Alaskan hunt! DO NOT USE ANY GUN BUT A RUGER FOR THE 357 MAXIMUM!
    Careful load development is key with this round as well as watching your primers for signs of over pressure. 58,000 is max pressure for this gun and round, my loads are way under on this Max load!

    I have found the GP100 to be accurate and have a high value.
    I did dry fire mine a lot. This married up the action really nice. I don’t think I have shot single action from it for years.
    Ruger in their instructions tells you that dry firing is perfectly fine and you do not need snap caps. Other manufacturers may not have this in the manual for their product. Always follow the manual that correlates with the firearm.

      I brought one GP-100 SS 6" barrel from pawn shop in TN for $325.00 five years ago. I sold it two years ago for $500.00 . I had 2 more when I swap it with my blew up Police Speed Six in 1988 for $288.00 each new with 6" barrel SS. I love GP-100 on the day one when it came out in 1988. I brought Security Six long time ago for $200.00 each new in 1988.

    I love my 1988 manufactured Ruger GP100 4" bbl in .357 Mag! It's the only firearm I named - Juliet. I had to replace the rubber on the grip after it got hard and slick, but Ruger sells just the rubber, so it was like getting a new pistol.

    A 4" stainless Ruger GP100 in .357 Magnum is one of those "if you could only have one handgun" type of guns. They can do it all, and they're very tough.
    A few years back a family I know gave all their kids (all girls BTW) GP100s for Christmas. That same year, the dad got a Super Redhawk in .454 Casull with the 9-1/2" barrel and the gun-metal gray finish (it was still available back then). Good times!

  • @scottbruns2907
    @scottbruns2907 7 місяців тому +1

    I bought a Redhawk in .357 like yours back in the 80s' and gave it to my Dad. He had it for years until he took it to the range and shot if for the first time, when the cylinder blew up on him. Fortunately, he wasn't hurt. He contacted Ruger and they had him send it in, and gave him a brand new Redhawk in .44 Magnum. They told him that they stopped making them in .357 because a high percentage of them in that caliber had defective metallurgy in the cylinder and blow ups were all too common. I'm glad yours isn't one of those.

    Got my GP100 6inch from a pawn shop also. Mines is blued. It was on my dream gun list. I do a lot of business there so he let me walk for $600.

    i've always wanted a gp. i have a security, a service and a speed in 6, 4 and 2.75 in. , respectively. i also have an sp. ruger makes good guns. they are good at copying/refining others' designs, too, like their lcp's and mini's.

    Gave my father a 4inch SP101 for his birthday a while back. Rugers are solid beefy guns that inspire confidence. More of a S&W guy myself I like em slim and trim.

    I have the exact same GP100 which I bought from my cousin in 2008. I love it. Nice pick up! That is a fantastic deal! They even already upgraded the sights!
    That Redhawk is freaking awesome!

    I paid $300.00 for my GP 100 in 1992. It would be the last revolver I would consider selling. I like it a lot better than any of my Smiths.

    Very nice selection of double action ruger revolvers , they looks sweet. Saw a blued security six with a 5.5 inch barrel at a show. I have my dad's single six with 22 magnum cylinder, and my super Blackhawk 44 . Good to see you guys out shooting together, thanks for taking us along

    Nice find but I prefer the old Security Six because it is lighter. The Redhawk is a gem if you can find one used at a decent price.

      The Security Six is definitely lighter and I love carrying it on my hip when I'm out in the desert exploring old gold mines and mining camps.

    You can't go wrong with a GP100. It may a bit chunkier than a S&W 686 but it'll last forever. You got a fantastic deal and that's a nice Ruger collection.
    I nearly bought a GP100 as my first gun but went with a Ruger SR1911 Government for the same money. I'm a Ruger fan and a GP100 6" is on my to-own list.

    Almost got a blued 7.5" Redhawk .44 at my lgs for $550, it was either a safe queen or someones hunting backup absolutely gorgeous no turn line. Start the paperwork the salesman (who I actually like) stops and says oh this has already been sold not sure why its on the floor... One of those things that made me think he wanted it himself just based off remarks he made beforehand. Never had that happen before and rarely go back there unless I'm bored and am in the area. Love your videos keep em coming!

    I have a four inch stainless security six made in 1980. It's part of my permanent collection now, of course. I have rubber grips on mine, but I like your wood grips better I think.
