    I have no limit when it comes to mags. Every time i have extra mags I buy ammo to put them in. Every time I have extra ammo I buy more mags to put them in, It's a vicious cycle!

      If I did that, I'd have over 3000 AR mags. Doesn't seem to be the best idea to do what you're saying. For my edc guns I try to keep a minimum of 5 mags but prefer to have 10 or 15 so I have some mainly for training so I don't have to worry about beating them up. $45/sig mag isn't cheap but still have 12-15. 15-20 shield plus mags, 20ish g19 mags and well over 100 20 and 30 rd 5.56 mags and only keep about 20 mags loaded with 5.56 and 20 loaded with 300blk

      @seang1032 Рік тому +1

      @Uncle Freedom thats the way it should be. I only have one belt rig and one carrier with mags, ifac, handheld light, etc. but you don't want to be grabbing this or that and having to grab mags or other equipment from one to fill another, leaving one carrier empty or half assed.
      Thanks for the videos. I thought it was funny when I posted my original comment at the start of the video and as I watched the video, you started to say the same things I had already said up to the cost of the sig mags. Tactical fundamentals and knowledge are a great thing. Keep up the hard work and be safe.

      @Uncle Freedom I wish I was a bigger dude. No matter how much I eat and workout, I stay slim. Damn runner's body. And I'm only about 5'9". I need a new carrier but can't read the size anymore on my current one. I don't remember if it's a small or medium

    An AR Mapgpul mag costs less than the bullets to fill it. Get a lot of them. Having a bunch of them will make practice/training more effective as you won't be spending that time filling mags.
    You should also practice with your carry mags, atleast often enough to know for sure that they are reliable. You can't know they are reliable if you don't use them.
    ALL AR mags can have rounds pop out of them when dropped. Some more than others will, but all of them can. There are vids on utube showing this. Train. Don't drop mags.
    When choosing new arms, research availability and cost of extra mags. This will make your choice more clear amongst models and brands.

    Really enjoyed your video and most points you made I have followed for years, like cycling carry mags out every year to a backup. Only point we differ is I have always loaded my mags short. Single stack pistols mags I reduce 1 round. Double stack pistol and rifle mags I reduce 2 rounds. Something I probably do not need to do but have been doing it since 1971. Only exception to this are my mags for my MAS 49/56. I have 10 mags for it and only shoot a couple mags a year. They hold 10 rounds and I have left them loaded for 5 plus years without any issues. As to ProMags I avoid them as I have never found them reliable.

      OR... You could use a white sharpie paint pen and write on the bottom of your mags. Separate mag storage pouches kept with each weapon might work too. By the way how can you tell in the dark? Are you going to turn on a light and give away your position? Think it through.

    I buy mags and ammo every payday. A few different shops sell 30rd PMags in 10 packs for about $11/ea. Now that ammo prices are coming down again I'm buying like crazy to replace my stock that was dwindling. I've got 50 mags loaded for the range and another 20 loaded with Gold Dot. If I know I'm going to be training for a long weekend and need more mags loaded, I can load them up before I go so I'm not loading mags at the range. I can relax, get some food/drink, and absorb what we're trying to learn that day. I do the same with pistol mags.

My Glocks either run from the box or they don’t. Fortunately, they’ve all run flawless from day one with the exception of my G44 but it’s 22lr so it’s gonna do 22lr things and was purchased strictly to teach the kids. I’ve since sold it because I’m tired of the malfunctioning and the kids have graduated to 9mm

    For defense/duty use I prefer duramags with magpul L-plates for bottom metal. Marked with a yellow paint pen.
    For training magpul m2 p-mags. I recently started trying out the Daniel defense mags but have limited experience on them so far. Others mileage may very this is just what I prefer. For all of my magazine fed pistols, I have at least 20 mags. Of those, 4 or 5 (depending on the gun) are kept loaded like all the others, but are the only ones I use for the range.
    As far as EDC, my primary is a Glock Model 45 and I carry at least 4 spare full size mags on me. Sometimes I carry my G26 instead of the G45 for concealment reasons, but my backup mags are still the 17rd variety.
    And you're right about what degrades the mag springs. I literally have 1911 and AK mags that have sat fully loaded for years (decades, in some cases) and the springs are just as strong now as they were brand new.
    And FYI, since my EDCs are all Glock, I have discovered that the Magpul mags actually run quite well for the range if you don't want to use factory Glock mags. My only complaint about them is that you can't take them apart like you can the Glock mags.

      @@unclefreedom213 Testing a magazine when shooting off last-year's carry ammunition is not nearly enough to trust my life with them. Until a magazine has been shot to empty at least 20 times in a row without any hiccup, I would never trust my life to it. If I have a misfeed or other issue and I can identify and fix the cause, or just can't be sure it's the magazine or something else, the counter resets and it needs another 20 fill-and-shoot-to-empty cycles before I'd use it for carry. I don't have time or patience for faulty magazines, even at the range. If a magazine appears to be troublesome and I can identify it as bad, it goes in the trash. If I can't isolate a problem to the magazine, I'll try to resolve it at the range, setting any questionable magazines to the side for more testing but it either gets proven reliable or, if I just can't tell, I toss it.

    Great for malfunction drills though...
    I was at a match about a decade ago.
    We shot from a tower then had to go down a slide to get down.
    When I reloaded at the top of the slide, I dropped my aluminum GI mag and it slid down the slide.
    On the next stage, I kept having malfunctions. Dropped the mag and finished the stage.
    Upon review, the feed lips had became very slightly bent from hitting the ground at the bottom of the slide. Not enough to notice without very close inspection, but it kept me "out of the fight".
    Been Pmags for me ever since.
    The ones I keep loaded, I use the snap on covers to take pressure off of the feed lips...

    Magpul for the track record/alleged reliability advantage, or lancer for the translucent options for easier round tracking? To this day people still report discernable reliability differences between the two brands, and Magpul unfortunately does not make a windowed 20 rounder.

    IWI in my op makes the best steel mag period.. they also have nice spring and follower kits.. followers come in like 10 different colors so you can designate a color to each type of round you run.. that’s all I will run for duty or self defense period.. Pmags lancers all that for training.. even got a few alum gi mags still where the feed lips haven’t turned into razor blades or cracked yet..
    When it comes to pistols I run exclusively pmag for training and nothing but factory bodies with quaintly name brand plus alum plates for added weight to drop free.. even my factory Glock mags I run alum even if not plus upping cause it just helps them drop free easier..
    I don’t care if they are $60 sig mags.. I have Al the quality aftermarket stuff.. for my life depends on it I will spend the $60 per mag if need be to have factory stuff.. that couple extra bucks to have a couple extra other mags isn’t worth the oh shit said company had a bad run of mags and you find that out the hard way..
    I do the exact same type of mag rotational stuff only thing I do differently.. all my mags are loaded even training mags.. I have one set of duty that is active one set out of rotation and those are empty.. mostly cause I got enough shit already.. every chest rig, belt setup, plate carrier etc is fully loaded and ready.. to the point they each have holstered pistols in them as well.. all that gear is in a gear locker.. all regular firearms in the safe, and for home defense shit and edc.. I keep pmag,surefeeds or lancers in different systems and use hex mags for range days. I have about 5 lancers and IME they’re the worst for rounds popping out when dropped,all of mine can be shaken hard enough (pretty violently) for rounds to fly out. But it’s not bad enough where i ever considered it to be an issue, i got them on a blem sale so maybe that’s why they were a blem 😂.
    I had a RSO tell me it’s illegal to to have a bunch of loaded mags in the car to bring to the range. I said na it’s not,i have my conceal carry plus they were locked in the trunk plus it’s just not true. Then he said well how would it look if you get pulled over, i said I’ll just say I’m going to the gun range but why would they search my trunk? Then he proceeded to run a magnet over my magazines, i said oh you just want to check my ammo… just say so. Never went back to that range. I’m not trying to spend the little time i can carve out for shooting jamming mags, i always take enough loaded mags to run the drills i want to run and extra ammo incase i have time to run a few more.
    Had a guy tell me it was pointless to number mags which turned into an argument. Good idea to keep a ledger, i usually just use 20rd mags or lancers for specific ammo but I’ll have to start writing it down.

My cousin lives in Nebraska, he comes to visit sometimes and generally thinks the people here are ass holes in comparison, i think he is the asshole but 🤷‍♂️😂
      I have several hex mags that won’t fit any ammo longer than a m193,m855 binds up in them and mk262 won’t even start. I like my lancers,the texture is nice and they feed great rounds just pop out. I can shake them up and down and get rounds to pop out,i dropped one and 5-10 rounds flew out. Again could just be why they were blems.
      I take my mags apart atleast once a year to clean them, running cheap ammo suppressed gunks them up pretty good .

    • @unclefreedom213
      @unclefreedom213  10 місяців тому +1

      All of my mags get shot I'm on the range twice a week and I also only carry factory or tested and proven mags for duty or defensive use. But the amount of time I spend on the range is overkill on a mag I want to depend on. It'd unnecessary wear and tear when I could be using dedicated training mags

    • @dalepres1
      @dalepres1 10 місяців тому

      @@unclefreedom213 That raises an interesting question. What's the average life of a magazine and where is the peak reliability curve where it's been shot enough to prove reliability but not so much as to wear it out.
      I've read some gun experts talk about never carrying a gun unless it's fired 2500 rounds flawlessly. That seems like a lot to me but I trust their expertise so I accept that as a great suggestion but I might carry a gun if I've put 500 rounds without any issues. But I accept, based only on my trust of those experts, that the peak of reliability on a handgun might be around 2500 rounds.
      So what's the number of cycles on a magazine that shows the peak of reliability defined as enough cycles to trust for reliability but not so many cycles as to begin to wear the thing out?
      I usually keep 5 magazines for a carry gun. I may have more but 5 of them are used for carry. So I try to get 100 rounds into each one. That might be 5 to 7 consecutive, flawless cycles, other than for 1911s. If there's a flaw in a magazine and I can clean it or find some other cause to fix, and then I might want another couple hundred rounds, or twice as many flawless cycles before I would carry it - but these are my own completely subjective guesses because I have no data or science, or even just the words of trusted experts, on which to base my process.
      Usually, when I get to the range, I will cycle my range mags at least 3 times, once with the carry ammo that's in it, then one or more times with cheaper ammo (usually cheapest HP but sometimes FMJ), and then again, last cycle, carry ammo again so I leave the range confident of the reliability of my gun and magazines with my carry ammunition. So I probably add 50-ish cycles a year to my carry mags. What I don't know, is where in the curve will they start to wear out?
      Will they stay reliable for 300 cycles? A thousand cycles? I don't really have any clue. I've never had magazines fail from use but I also change carry guns every few years so I've never hit more than a few hundred cycles on any one magazine.

    Theres alot i agree with and a bit i strongly disagree with in regards to this video and mags. Personally i subscribe to rhe clint smith thought train that you should have no such thing as range/training mags they should all be ready to go to war reliable mags. Now thats alot easier to do with rifle mags than it is with pistol mags, aluminum ar15 mags i get on the regular for 9-12 bucks per mag and those are bought in sets of ten. Now when global ordinance had steel ar15 mags for litteraly sub 5 bucks a mag did I stack up on those, absolutely and they do work and are reliable cause ive actually used em in training but honestly those are more for a rainy day like you said how u buy magpul followers and springs well same idea. And that entails having a fighting rig and full loadout of mags, 7-10 per rifle of my go to which are usualy c products/duramag and okay surefeeds. Now I still like the same train of thought with pistol mags but lets be honest its alot harder to do cause of cost. With glock 17 mags usualy 20 bucks a mag, those are bought in sets of six, with the beretta 92 I go Mecgar 18rd mags at about 18-22 bucks a mag bought in sets of six, and i love the M&P 2.0 I just shoot it alot better than my glocks im more confident with it but at $35 per mag ill be honest its gonna take a lil bit for me to have as manny glock mags as S&W mags. Now when i was still brand new into this lifestyle I did cheap out and bought magpul glock mags, has it caused malfunctions for me at the range? No but I just dont like that its all polymer and doesnt have a steal liner like the glock factory mags so I sold all the ones that were still in the packaging and now i just have 1 21 or 24rd glock pmag waiting to be disposed of that I used to use for training. I swear i dont have a crush on korean manufacturing but i do have a bunch of the 33rd korean glock mags and they work 100% in my 17s but the only self defense/HD mags I trust my life to are factory glock 17 rounders whenever im carrying. I do agree with numbering ur mags, and keeping a ledger ( personally still in the process of numbering and logging everything rn) and having mags actually loaded and ready to go.
