How to fix a faulty Virpil collective , manage cable so this does not happen again and suggested design improvements to Virpil

Virpil support was contacted about the faulty cable and had a new one out to me in 3 days

Same issue here 😔. Thanks for the video. I'll be able to make this faulty one a backup and also adjust the way I mount the cable. Might be easier for me to just unplug the 5P connector whenever I'm done using it.

@@HavocCompanyClan I got the black hawk and the collective. Funny fact is that I am in Canada now in a TDY and managed to get the exact same “self-adhesive ziplock tie holder” you used. It was a really nice video. Thanks again.

My cable died tonight too, exact same issue, waiting for a reply from virpil.

Same happened to me few days ago. Collective had random disconnects/reconnects during flight until it died completely.
When I opened the connector, it was the white cable that had no solder on it and indeed looked really short.
Additionally the (metal) strain relief was not installed. The 2nd half with the screws was simply missing under the plastic cover.

Nice. Thought about it when I mounted the collective. Now I see that my concerns were valid. Will do something similar, but fortunately I wont have to repair at this point.

Hello,,and thx for this great tutorial,,i have a question,,on my cable the white and green came off but i cant see what color go's were,,is green Left of the Red Wire and white to the right ??? thx in advance...grtz

Mine doesn't work anymore either. But it was working this Morning. Now the LED on the Hawk 60 lights up briefly and Windows reports a USB error. 😞

Cause found! The Ground Cable, which is not insulated, was in contact with the White Cable. The Clip with the 2 Screws is missing from my Metal Housing of the plug. 🤔

Hi HavocCompanyClan. Could you PM me if you dont mind. My Control Panel 2 died the other day after only two months of use. Looks like the main board has died. They said they will send me a new V08 boarad, but its gonna take a while to get. So I am wondering.. can I fix my CP2 mainboard V08??? I managed to flash and verify a hex LUFA image via the SPI interface, but it still doesnt seem to boot. Cabling is good, so wonder if some passive components are toast or the crystal perhaps.. I mean its just an ATMEGA32U4, its not that complicated. So just wanna see what your experience is fixing them. Thanks.

Of course one of the first things I tried was to put it in bootloader mode, but it made no difference. The only life I see in it, is when I plug it in, some of the LEDs on the CP2 briefly flash.

@@loiphin If you have a scope maybe you could do more diagnosis stuff eg check voltages and see if crystal is wokring ok , but to be honest better just waiting for new PCB to arrive from Virpil

@@loiphin I have 5 Virpil devices using various versions of this micro controller board some as old as 2018 vintage , all of them are working fine. I think hombre you just were unlucky, it would be good to get a root cause of why yours failed tho
