Everyone's roasting Alterac Valley for being such a weak set, but I think that's more the fault of the previous two expansions, especially stormwind, than it is this set. Alterac Valley would probably be pretty impactful in 2020, and it would have completely turned the game upside-down in 2019, it's just that the power creep this year has been insane.
Agree. Power creep made me sit out this last expansion. No fun at all for me compared to what the game used to be. I check these videos the same way you check your ex's social media.
It's not really power creep that's the issue as much as the fact that the meta is aggressively anti-fun. Like yeah, the power level is outrageous, but we've had expansions with enormous power creep before and it's not always led to stale metas. The thing is UiS has created a meta dominated by combo decks, which essentially means no archetype other than combo and hyper-aggro can do well. Combo has its place in the meta but it shouldn't be the dominating force because it's uninteractive by design and it absolutely shuts down the things it does well against. As much as I don't usually enjoy hyper-aggro metas, at least they still mean you can play things other than hyper-aggro or its direct counter and still enjoy yourself. The way the meta currently is if you're not playing combo or hyper-aggro then you're just watching an opponent play solitaire and usually win, and no amount of strong value cards is going to remedy that.
Tl;dr - I think Alterac's and even Stormwind's power level is fine, the problem is Stormwind made combo the dominant archetype and no amount of good value cards in Alterac is going to stop the game ending by turn 7 every time.
Also like i think this expansion is blizzard setting hearthstone up for a more varied and mixed meta future come the next set of expansions

Yes that is why we're roasting the set. The cards are good, very good. Looking at cards individually, you can still see the power creep, but there is no viable new archetype in this set besides a dumb warlock otk.
how sad that the most impactful cards all make existing decks stronger instead of making new archetypes available to the meta
I think that's just the smarter way to look at things. Unless Blizzard prints an obviously busted new deck to power creep the meta even harder, any new decks will be a surprise.
Not saying Trump is wrong but theorycrafting rarely gets it right. Until we see these cards in action, we won’t know for sure. Don’t lose hope yet

As a quest rogue player, I'd say it definitely would be good in that deck. Especially against handlock which is very popular at high legend.
@@simcard96 in SI:7 rogue? So like treating it as a second win condition if you didnt get lethal with scabbs the 7/7 or if you havent had enough SI:7 cards to complete the quest?
@@sadsquideyes3397 No, it's to stop your opponent's win condition. For example, when handlock fills their board with giants, play scabbs to flip the board.

I think every rogue would be able to fit scabbs, you clear any enemy minion and still leaves a 8/4 stealth on the field plus your hero power enables more combos

I highly doubt this card will replace Guldan DK on wild, but it certiantly will be a great card in standard.

Looking at all of the new hero cards, I CAN NOT come up with a reason for the hunter hero power to cost 3... maybe if they let you discover the animal companion, but just to get a random one it just doesn’t come close to matching up with its peers

@@ruukinen plus combining two card effects makes them typically cost more as well. it could probably be 10 mana and would be played (except you are dead by then to combo but let's leave that out for now ;) )

It is 1 stall+cycle spell which is so good in any non aggro deck

I can see the argument for it though, cycle cards are really good.
What makes me wonder though is: is freezing a single minion when up against Pirate Warrior and Face Hunter really going to make the cut, or is just cycling through your deck just so worrh it?

I was originally going to pass on Irondeep Trogg especially since if you remove it with a spell it doesn't get its duplicate off first, but it definitely powers up through buffs. Seems like a logical 1 drop include in Rally Priest.

All I want is a card that has a battle cry that, let's say, changed a random spell in your opponent's hand to a minion of the same cost and changed a random minion in your opponent's to a spell of the same cost.

I feel like I'm the only person in the world that thinks Lightforged Cariel is underwhelming for the turn she's played. The handbuff is sweet, but the battlecry effect is really sad for the mana cost and I just can't imagine the Immovable Object doing anything unless your opponent is someone playing a fun deck that doesn't OTK or Hyper Aggro. Aka I can only imagine the card being good against me and Solem and no one else. I just don't see Paladins surviving long enough to make use of her. I hope I'm wrong though.
well it counters a lot of otk decks by, well, effectively doubling your health. only downside if you need to draw her and have the time to play her

Since I got her from a pack I made a control paladin and it does really well against aggro but it just can't beat combo warlock

The top most impactful card is your credit card. The great team at Blizzard discovered how to sell an "expansion" with a "new meta"( guaranteed) and nothing changed. Making people buy something and get no value is winning in a companies' eyes.

Royal librarian is actually a sleeper very good card 3/4 4 mana with silence and card draw mechanics, while also being nuetral . with big priest/buff paladin/taunt hunter being popular on ladder having a silence card has helped me close out so many games. Snowfall guardian too especially with macaw being able to too stall 2-4 turns in a row building big minion and then silencing/hexing their big taunts to go face is huge. I'll literally let them build full boards of 6 or 7 minions then freeze everything and they can't do anything cause everything is frozen. haven't played in like a year and playing freeze shaman with silence and hex I'm about to hit legend currently in high diamond. freeze shaman actually got a lot of good cards against aggro and control decks. It's most weak only really against otk owl warlock which is just stupidly busted imo when played correctly definitely needs some type of nerf. also carnival clown druid decks which is extremely rare in my experience I've only played against one so far.

This is my own personal favorite card so far and it was not on the list. I feel like Beaststalker Tavish is amazing. I put him into my quest hunter deck and being able to get a free animal companion along with every spell I cast is amazing.

FML dude why can't they let people cancel preorders...I'll probably like this anyway. sigh
I feel like everyone is saying this set is bad because they are looking at it based on where the meta is right now, which holds water and is a fine assertation. I look at it through a vacuum lens and how it could be in the future. That being said, I think this expansion is strong, not the strongest, but it has a ton of powerful tools and while they may not all see play initially, I think it will be terrifying very soon.
So far my impression of it is that it's a lot like Rastakhan's Rumble. A lot of cards that may be decent in a vacuum but suck in context. Maybe it'll fare better long term, unlike that set.

Frostbite is kind of weak, the honourable kill thing should make the spell cost 3-4 mana, not 2.

Big mistake in NOT including the 1-cost 2/2 mage minion that reduces a spell by 1. I believe its the MOST op 1-drop we've seen in a long time. Will see play in nearly every mage deck (minus spell mage) until it rotates.
He rates based on where he thinks a card will be in the upcoming metagame.
He doesn't think mage will be any good.
It won’t see play because putting minions in ur mage decks makes it worse, spring water is way more OP than the 1-drop ever will be

Trump is grossly over-estimating the death of minion based decks that care about the board. I don't know what version of hearthstone he's playing but quest warrior and libram paladin still seem really good to me and those are midrangy decks that need board control in order to win. So I think really strong board control tools such as Templar Captain for Paladin are still good and will see play.
You know this list is reasonable when nearly every card on it costs 1-2 mana. Look at the meta! The biggest mistake in predicting card is simply NOT rating the low cost ones high enough.
Trump is surprised by all the cards in the list. Is like someone else do it...
