QUICK CORRECTIONS: - Emperor Thaurissan was originally a 6 mana 5/5 with the same effect. Still a great card though. - Hex: Originally costs 3 mana like in the video, but was changed to 4 mana in the Knights of the Frozen Throne expansion. Therefore, you would use BOTH a 3 mana or 4 mana hex on Flamewreathed Faceless depending on when you were playing. - Kazakus: I showed the wrong Kazakus card. The kazakus from Mean Streets in Gadgetzan was a 4 mana 3/3: If your deck had no duplicates, craft a custom potion (as seen in the video). The one I showed in the video was from Forged in the Barrens. - Irondeep Trogg: was actually nerfed (like every other card from Alterac Valley ). The original text summoned a copy of the trogg minion instead of the base irondeep trogg. This allowed for buffs to be copied over, making the card even stronger. There is over 400 card images in this video so thank you for your patience with me getting some card facts wrong. Please let me know if there is any more mistakes and I'll correct them here.
Not even mentioning Mysterious challenger in grand tournament is criminal, Barnes from kharazan is probably one of the best card ever printed, he alone enabled all the big archetype we see to this day. For all the rest i'm with your choices
So many omissions and mistakes, thaurissan was a 6mana* 5/5 not 5 mana. Hex was changed to 4 mana and then back to 3 mana, but during old gods it was its original 3 mana.
Not having Ilgynoth as the top card considering it lead to so many tournaments becoming ilgynoth simulators for so long is insane, the deck played solitaire and could defend itself against aggro with a wave of damage or lifesteal and destroy any control deck from existing.
17:42 Who says Kobolds and Catacombs was underwhelming in power? Every Warlock card in that set became useful in a meta deck. It spawned the two best Warlock decks in standard: Cubelock and Rinlock. Look at the useful neutrals: Dire Mole was a staple in aggro decks. Fungalmancer was a turn five Bonemare! Carnivorous Cube aside from being used in Cubelock, it was also used in Druid OTK decks (watch GhostASA use a Devilsaur Cube OTK deck to win a game in HS Championship Tour Sydney 2018). Spiteful Summoner was nerfed for enabling big spell decks. Even Grand Archivist saw some play in those decks (especially Spiteful Priest). In Druid, Twig enabled many OTK decks. Branching Paths was used in almost every non-aggro Druid deck. In Hunter Flanking Strike, Wandering Monster, and Candleshot were meta staples. In Mage Aluneth was crazy good in burn and quest decks, Explosive Runes was one of the best secrets in the game, and Dragon's Fury was in every control Mage deck. Paladin has Unidentified Maul, the soon-to-be-nerfed Call to Arms, Lynessa, Valanyr, and Level Up became useful in meta decks. Priest got a dragon AoE in Duskbreaker, PSYCHIC SCREAM (WTF!), and the spellstone for resurrect priest enjoyers. Rogue has Kingsbane and Sonya. Kingsbane became so much of a problem that they nerfed Leeching Poison. Shaman decks used Healing Rain, Murmuring Elemental, Unstable Evolution, and Grumble. Even Warrior used Drywhisker, Unidentified Shield, Reckless Flurry, and Yip in the meta decks at the time. And the recruit mechanic is super busted. Call To Arms was so broken it was nerfed. Possessed Lackey was nerfed. Kathrena, Master Oakheart, Woecleaver, even Silver Vanguard were used by several degenerate decks in both Standard and Wild. Anyone who claims Kobolds and Catacombs is underpowered either has amnesia or did not play the ladder competitively in that meta. Standard was already strong following KFT, and KnC made it more busted. Indeed the KnC meta was so strong that I felt that Witchwood and Boomsday were much less powerful sets (Baku and Genn decks aside).
Super sick video, love these sort of retrospectives. You kept showing the wrong Kazakus though 😛, during Mean Streets, and when you mentioned Brann (I guess debatable but the Mean Streets one was 10 times more meta relevant and a major Brann combo).
17:30 - Kobolds and Catacombs was actually really powerful, probably the strongest expansion ever at the time, with decks like Cubelock for example. Witchwood, Boomsday (a set that was buffed as a whole a year after its release) and Rasthakhan were very weak outside of a few specific cards. It was Blizzard's attempt at slowing down powercreep back then. Shudderwock decks were actually really weak back then. The first true top tier Shudderwock deck was Galakrond Shaman. The card actually got better with time (it probably reached its peak during Alterac Valley in Wild) Galakrond's awakening actually had Risky skipper, one of the strongest warrior cards ever. Inner Demon DH was actually a meme deck. It had huge highlights but was very inconsistent. The reason Twin Slice got changed was its busted synergy with Altruis. Kaelthas on the other hand was mostly played in Druid and got a second nerf because of how it enabled FTKs in Wild (they didn't ban cards back then). 49:18 - Hollow Hound was a crazy Hunter card and enabled multiple Tier 1 decks in the class (Hound Hunter and Cleave ABJ Hunter mostly). It only saw marginal play in DK.
Kobold and Catacombs was absolutely busted; Call to arms, Branching paths; Aluneth; Carnivorous Cube; Duskbreaker; Kingsbane; Kobold Librarian; Possessed lackey; Void lord; Warlock weapon that I forgot the name; Psychic scream; Spiteful summoner; So many awesome cards, what a nostalgia. Loved hearthstone so much at that time
Bro when the release of witchwood shudderwock otk shaman saw play since chain gang changed to "summon another chainged gang" It was making the game unplayable and people making petitions about banning the card.
What's funny is that they decided to unban the demon seed in wild for some mysterious reason and... Yep, it's completely dominating the format again, who would have thought?
Chau thank you for the history lesson and your high quality editing and videos you deserve to be getting more views. Maybe your key words or something is keeping your videos from getting pushed out.
The most fun I've ever had in hearthstone was running Holy Wrath/Shirvallah Pali in Rastakahns Rumble and running Battlecry Shaman right before the Pen Flinger nerf.
I really mean this as constructive criticism, but this video feels half baked, so many of the visuals were wrong, i.e. wrong versions of cards, not mentioning their original versions, you didnt have the names of some cards correct, you would really benefit from a proper script and double checking your editing. Cool video idea but kind of poor execution.
@@hussainmustafa5601It’s filled with misinformation and straight up laziness. Like the fact the narrator forgets the name of the card ???? Just redo the take.
