Went to Lynch for a school mission trip and we cleaned around this building, always wondered what the inside was like
My Dad and his sisters and brothers went to this high school, they were all born and raised in Lynch back in the 30”s and 40”s. It used to be a thriving coal town, my grandfather worked in the mine, heard many great stories from my Dad about growing up in Lynch.
I live there. wow.
Jerry Smith - I grew up in Lynch from 1947 to 1965 the year I graduated. I was in the largest graduation class with 88 students graduating. It's truly heart breaking to see this beautiful building going to ruin with so many fond memories from my youth. I lived in Gap Branch across the bridge over the creek. So sad.
You must know that you have what we called when I was growing up there, the little school and the big school. Elementary and High schools.
My dad mom all their sister n brothers went to school together in lynch ky very kool place to visit, the have an old school back down in Brenham ky 4 mile back that they turned in to a hotel
Wished you could do Elzo gutrey, or Hall jr. High.... ❤
I attended this school first through 5th grade. The building on the left was the grade school, the high school was on the right
My Granny, Hazel Poff, worked in the kitchen there. Not sure when she retired. That place was always kinda spooky even when it was open
i live right by that school and its falling apart, its sad to see somewhere that my parents went to school falling apart
Me and my old grade school friend went in there about 10 or 11 years ago. We were only about 10 years old. We didn't last 5 minutes before running out and back to his house down the street.
We played basketball in the Lynch Recreational League in the early 80s even after the school closed. The city kept the gym open for us. There were 4 Class A state Football championship teams from this school in the 60s . This was a top rated school in its hay day. This is a very dangerous building to go into now and you should stay out of it. The ceiling and walls are constantly falling .
yes we did i held the leagues and also taught martial arts in one of the room
Looks like a pretty good sized school. Imagine the stories around those lockers and in that gym!
It really isn't that big. I grew up a few houses up the street from there and played basketball in the gym in a city recreational youth league in the 80s .
This is right below my house it’s so fun to explore
Sabrina Harris can I get the addres?
Thanks for vid Jon. Beautiful decaying structure. Australia
Great video. I am from rockcastle kentucky
Whoa! Good find dude and great vlog! The building is a sturdy foundation I can tell it was constructed well, just no upkeep lol
REad what i wrote about the school. I grew up in Lynch. My mom still lives there. i just got home from visiting her .
Unfortunately there's building's like this all over that area of the country. I grew up about 45 minutes away and exploring old buildings was a normal activity.
Great video keep it up
My dad went to this high school. His name is Paul Bowling. Go LYNCH BULLDOGS!
My mom is class of 67. GO DOGS!!!!!!!
Wow! The place looks super edgy :D Great video Sir. I wouldn't like to be there after dark haha
Oh mercy, she has flip flops on?!? 🤦🏻♀️I'm terrified !!! That building is very cool!! But the "scared" me thinks: mold, lead paint, asbestos, and SNAKES! I'm so weird... I can't think about wearing open toed shoes in a place like that!!! Ha... my neurotic impulses are showing!!! I bet all that rain and wind a few weeks ago caused that collapse?!? Great VLOG!
My Mom and Dad went to high school here. So did most of my Aunts & Uncles. Dad was Class of '57; Mom was Class of '61.
Loved the video Jon. Keep on exploring. 😁😁
Hay I saw you there
It’s sad what has happened to this once thriving city I’ve gone here quite a few times to do mission work with the close of the coal industry everyone was out of work and money and resorted to drugs there is now an unbelievably high crack epidemic
There is NOT a crack epidemic here. There is a pill epidemic , not that pills make it any better but no CRACK here.
Awesome exploration!
:)
Yesssssss!!!! I can't believe she is wearing flip flops though!
This place is cool 👍👍
Awesome vlog. It is a shame these old buildings like this are left to rot away. I wish someone could restore it.
Boilers look like they have faces on them creeeeppppyyyy
I loved it. Would have been nice to tour the local adjacent homes and neighborhood just to see if locals can grasp some history of the school.
I am a local and we know all about the school history. Most of the house near the school now are abandoned. my mom lives just a few houses up from it. It is in Lynch , Kentucky.
I wonder how many graduated from the first class to the last one? Thank you for sharing!
I grew up on this street. The school was open from 1924 to 1981. It was built by the US Steel Coal Company . i would estimate it at around 1200 . My mom graduated from there in 1967.
Very dangerous place, take care exploring Jon would hate anything to happen to you
Wow cool place 😍
I use to live down here its not that scary. I played hide and seek at night with friends in there
AT 5:30.....i bet that looks creepy at night.
Watch out for Freddy cougar laugh out loud
You need closed toe shoes when exploring. Just thinking about your safety, girl.
I wonder whom do you need to get a hold of checking this place out ?
My best freind is the chief of police in Lynch. Do NOT go in this building. It is too dangerous. It is about to collapse and my friend will tell you not to go in there. Just letting you know.
@@johngluck6938 Thanks for letting me know .
@@m.cd.432 You are welcome. I went in a few years ago and it was dangerous then. I will never go in there again.
I know of an abandoned school just a few miles from where I live. Not as spectacular of a building as this one though.
Hay you can’t go in there
why did you not continue down the road another mile to the abandoned company store, or commisary.
jerry gray I'll be going back my dad was with us and got sick so we had to leave.
i know your mother is from harlan county, i am from the next town benham ky, be sure to visit the coal mine museum and the school house inn, you wont regret it.
wow that is old hey your name was on the wall lol the things in the Windows didn't look old
The school and municipality buildings were built in the early 20s by Italian stone mason immigrants. The school was an all white school until desegration in the early 60s.
School of my in-laws
Why couldn't they have turned this building into condo's or apartments?? What a waste!
I just hate to see beautiful old buildings go to waste, just my opinion!!
My dad went there how dare you.
This is my home town. I grew up on this street. It is East Main Street Lynch ,KY. There is a housing project across from it so no need to put millions of dollars into this old building. It closed in the early 80s . It is a very dangerous building to go into. I was in it last year.
Good One In the Boiler Room 1 2 Freddy's coming for you
Ya really need to wear better shoes doing this.
I’m reporting to police
Neat :)
Do you get regular tetanus shots? If I explored run down places like you, I would definitely get them. Please, NO flip flops. Broken glass, nails, splintered wood. Doesn't that scare you? Great video!!
