The Marijuana thing...cigarettes used to be RECOMMENDED by doctors. It was on their labels before people knew better, so her story is not completely insane.
My mom got pregnant with me and was high risk. The Dr told her If she completely stopped smoking cigarettes she would LOSE me. I love Steve but this was something being said by Dr's
My mum had a miscarriage every time she quit smoking when she found she was pregnant. The only times she could carry to full was when she didnt quit. Its the extra stress on the body fighting the addiction. The body is already going through so much.
I cant see any doctor saying dont do anything you can to get youre weight, energy and babies nutrients healthy.
Yeah, the mom made mistakes, no doubt, but he from the get-go didn't care for anything she had to say.

I can vouch for that marijuana and pregnancy thing! My doctor told me the same thing in 1997!

2005 same thing. I lost 40lbs and started at only 140..my Dr told me my baby and I both were going to die if I didn't try it because nothing else was working. I ended up admitted to the hospital several times for IV nutrition during that pregnancy. I had hyperemesis gravidarum through all 5 pregnancies but that first was on another planet lol.

ALSO, that lawyers, etc. can coerce/scare innocent people into pleading guilty to receive a lesser sentence ESPECIALLY when they were originally looking at long sentences! I've seen him chastise innocent people for this on his show and when proven innocent, he never apologizes. LOVE Steve, but I don't like when he's hard-headed like this lol.

I don’t think he was completely wrong. She clearly did things that caused her to have her kids taken away from her. No “perfect” parent gets their children removed from their home. She just happened to pass those questions it does not mean she was mother of the year .

Laziness as in the people investigating not actually wanting to investigate and ultimately deciding it would be easier to just take the children 🤷🏾♀️

Those kids are some of the most empathetic people I've ever seen on this show 😭 the love they both have and how the son said that the test didn't matter to him but they matter to her and that he's there for her for every step 😭 despite a life of abuse and hardship and feeling abandoned, they turned out to be pretty incredible

Not sure why Steve thinks it’s far fetched about the pot thing. My dr who also was my Moms OB, who delivered me and my 2 siblings, also delivered my first child. He told me to smoke for my nausea because it was so bad. I would do it when it was really, really bad, but it’s not far fetched.
I was told to do this in 2015. He knows too well docs do. But then he couldn't have a go could he 🤷♀️
There was no medical pot in 98. I think Steve is right, if you can believe the comments about being told to smoke they must have gone to a backyard dr😂

Yes doctors that weren't dumb back in the 90s would tell patients to smoke weed since it was less harmful then the pills.... My nephews and neices mom was told this in the 90s to smoke weed to help with her pregnancy, to many side effects with pills.... I was told by my doctor in 2006 and 2009 to smoke weed because I was losing weight and couldn't eat and was stressed, only thing that helped.... Steve has some of the information about his guests which is why he will let some people sit or not. He could’ve checked it out because likely there was some questionnaire (it would be incredibly sloppy not to have one for guests) and he could do a little research. It’s not as if he’s super busy nowadays: I think that should be a bare minimum he and his staff should do so Steve doesn’t look like a complete fool when he’s wrong with his assumptions and they can catch lies if someone wants to use a state law etc.

It’s definitely not ok. My mother did it while pregnant with me. It caused several heart defects in me and I went into cardiac arrest at 6 weeks old and had open heart surgery at 6 weeks old. I still live with 5 other heart deformities and I also have seizures… so NO it is not ok to do any kind of drug while pregnant!! I’m having to pay for my mother’s selfishness
I was told this by a doc in 2015. The information on cannabis and pregnancy is so hit an miss.

@cthornton0706 Sorry, I hope I didn't come off insensitive. I'm not denying this is what happened, and I really do wish it hadn't. (I have epilepsy so, I really do sympathise). My perspective was, I'm 5 months pregnant and going to die. Killing us both. I would have done anything to make sure she survived, even if I lost my own life. It's a hard one because, should I have lost both our lives in that instance instead of taking doctors' advice? I was well aware of risks. If you ever wanna talk/chat about seizures or being disabled in general, I'm here. It's fucking hard

I actually had an OB tell me In 2008 “I can’t tell someone to smoke marijauna while pregnant, but I’ve had patients tell me it helps with morning sickness, so I just tell them to make sure they stop in the third trimester” I have never been a pot smoker…. I did in middle school and then hated it so never did it again… so I wasn’t about to start smoking while pregnant, 😅 but she did say that…. She didn’t say she tells people to do it, but she did say that she told other patients how to do it and not get in trouble…. So there are doctors out there that will say crazy things that you wouldn’t expect!

Ok so as I was listening to this story , I was assuming that all of the false accusations against Anna came from the abusive ex . As if the housefire accusation was crazy enough . What really got to me was the fact of those people telling them that their mother died of a car crash . I believe what happened was , she had to leave the ex partner . So he got mad and made up all those false accusations about her , getting her children taken away . I could be wrong though .

Steve, In California back when they were using medical Marijuana the doctors would tell the pregnant patients to take 5-10 mg marijuana for nausea.

@@tclanjtopsom4846 That is not true because I lived in San Francisco from 91-2001 and My uncle was a Vet and he had a marijuana card in San Francisco in 1991 and he would lite up a marijuana cigarettes in public with that card. I never smoke marijuana and I would tell my uncle that is for the purposes of your home use. However, it was not regulated to home use yet. The police would not bother him as they walked the beat. My uncle wore that card around his neck like it was a Rapper’s bling. He did not get the card from the Veterans clinic either. He paid a regular doctor. So no sir it was medically available in 1991.

I have an ex-husband is a doctor. So what ever you are googling your search question are not correct. Search prior to or before 1995 which doctors gave prescriptions for marijuana or something like that. Doctors before the DEA crack down were allowed to do many things.

my mother has been smoking cigarettes since she was 13. this was back in the 80s. when she found out she was pregnant with me, she had to speak to her doctor about her smoking habits. this was in late 2003. the doctor said, and i quote, "if you stop smoking right now, your daughter will not be carried to full term."
i am now 20 years old. i have no addictions.
the same thing with my sister. she was smoking through my sister's pregnancy. she came out just fine. no addictions, no issues, nothing.

I had a Doctor tell me in 1998 that pot was better than cigarettes, I also was a foster parent that the state but a child in my Care that was not pick up from school, living right next to her grandmother, the mother had ask a Aunt to pick up her child that day she took her other child to a Doctor appointment, All the school shouldn't done was call the mother or grandmother who lived across from the school !!!! Not cop's or CPS, That child should not have been put in the System....

She was women trapped in a cycle of mental illness and an abusive relationship. She did not commit the worst offense against her children. A doctor telling you to continue smoking marijuana is absolutely true. If you were once addicted to it and you quite once finding out your pregnant it can cause a high risk pregnancy so they tell you to continue.
Glad she passed all but one question about a CPS telling her that she would regain custody if she dumps her ex. She was falsely accused of terrible things towards her children so it wouldn’t have mattered what CPS told her what to do, no one would dared to weaponize CPS against mothers or fathers for no apparent reasons and lying on her!
In 2003 I was told the SAME thing by my OBGYN we werent given permission to be blinded all day but if a couple hits Gave me a Appetite to eat Then Thats What I Did

I really don’t think that’s how that situation was. He could have been threatening her and been the one calling cps and u don’t know the situation she was in. I agree no woman should ever choose a man over her kids but how do u know that’s what happened. She could have been dealing with a lot more than u know. And then by the time she finally got away from him it was too late for her to have a chance of getting her kids back. I mean she literally passed for everything else, her kids even said no matter where they were she would find them. U can see she loves her children. I don’t see her just choosing a man over her children and saying oh well. I think there is more to the story…
Maybe in the anxiety fueled you know how do I say this when somebody has something like this going on it is very easy to misunderstand or miscommunicate things she probably did not understand what they were telling her. My husband filed for divorce in 2022 after 17 years of us being separated he wasn't in the children's lives for the first 12 years and he had the nerve to try and seek full custody and put a restraining order and no contact order on me and through the stress of dealing with the no contact order in child custody I overlooked many things pertaining to my divorce because the child custody in my opinion was more important than whose last name was going to stay where so it is very possible that all those years ago she probably misinterpreted what she was being asked to do because in my opinion her reaction to it coming out as a lie was genuinely shocked

My mom was told to smoke cigs with me to get her blood pressure up. They told her it’s better to smoke than die carrying me. She has to force herself so yes, a doctor would recommend that.

My doctor assumed that I smoked (cigarettes) because I would smell like them as my husband smoked.. So I guess she assumed I was lying when I told her that I don't smoke and she told me "Ya know if you're going to smoke while you're pregnant marijuana is much better on your baby than cigarettes". This is 1999 in central MO. I can't believe Steve and some of the audience responded in such a nasty way about this. Also just in case I need to say this, no I didn't decide to start smoking marijuana since Dr. G gave me the unsolicited advice.

A midwife told me I could smoke marijuana for my nausea I was hospitalized multiple times when I stopped smoking and was diagnosed with Hyperemesis Gravidarium. Smoking marijuana was the only thing that helped me eat and not be sickly nauseous

My OB in Oklahoma recommend that I do marijanna because I could not keep anything down with my son unless I smoked. It was medically prescribed. I had a medical card and all

Just an FYI, if you guys do smoke while pregnant, make sure it's officially medical and you do not roll it up in a game leaf or a swisher. Make sure it's paper or a bowl. You do not want to inhale any tobacco.
Steve, back in 1996, California had medical Marijuana. If a doctor recommended her to smoke because she was losing so much weight in so little time, then she was given the okay to do so and most likely got prescribed medical Marijuana. You either have her lose weight and hurt her children, or she smokes and eats normally, and her kids will be fine.
If you're going to do these stories, at least do some research on it. Weed has many benefits, including benefits to pregnant women.
There's nothing wrong with smoking weed while pregnant. Just only smoke if it helps you and make sure you don't inhale any tobacco.

Everyone laughing at the marijuana part is kind of crazy. I smoked before I found out I was pregnant with my daughter and was super nauseous and the doctor did tell me to continue because there were no studies that showed marijuana was harmful to the baby. I did not continue, I stopped because even though my doctor gave me the greenlight, it still made me feel guilty. But everyone laughing at that like that’s not true because it is recommended….
You know.... i used to love watching Steve but i have noticed how absolutely unforgiving he is for mistakes. Honestly I’ve heard some doctors say if it helps it helps. I’ve had 3 friends who smoked weed when pregnant because it was something that helped with nausea and appetite. They all came out healthy and full term
