  • These are my initial thoughts on riding my friend's Moto Guzzi V7 Special. After editing this video, I realized I need to go on a second ride with this bike. The engine's unique orientation provides a distinctive sensation while riding and cornering, something that no other bike has offered me thus far. A Moto Guzzi should be a part of every bike enthusiast's garage.

    Moto Guzzi motorcycles are the best I’ve ever ridden. No, they won’t do H2 speeds, etc…but they do pretty much everything else perfectly. They still FEEL and LOOK like a motorcycle…a sweet and sexy refinement like Italian supermodel , but still a rough around the edges type of character that has a certain manliness feel to it. The shaft drive is a game changer too…just get on and ride! Get a set of Mistral or Lafranconi exhausts on it, it’ll sound like a built Chevy small block!

    I picked up a new V7 Special today. I traded in my beautiful 2016 Indian RoadMaster (I had it for 8 years) so definitely a different riding sensation. I had about a 100km trip home on the V7 so I had a bit of time to adjust to the different controls and the feel of the bike. I had done a lot of research on the V7 so was pretty well aware of all of the "character" nuances of the bike and I feel that helped me enjoy the initial experience a bit more. Coming from a 900lb cruiser this thing felt pretty light and nimble. I like the handling and it's peppy to say the least. I was actually surprised at how fast it is. I'm looking forward to enjoying a new adventure with a totally different bike and based on initial impressions I fell this bike is gonna be fun. Nice job on your video
    Cheers

      That's awesome Kevin, I really enjoyed my brief time on V7 Special, I am looking to go on second ride so I can get a N=2 experience. Nice to hear your story, ride safe my friend.

      Many thanks...appreciate your reply. Something to watch for if you do go on a second ride....in your video you mention the delay in displaying the gear number after upshifting etc. I noticed on my bike that whenever the clutch lever is engaged (pulled in) the gear display shows "_" (i.e. does not display the appropriate gear number). I did a bit of research on this and the owners manual actually states that this bike calculates the current gear from vehicle and engine speed values. So when you pull in the clutch or when the bike is stationary, the calculation is not possible so it shows "_"??? Definitely a setup I have not seen before. I tried it today while cruising along in 5th gear. Pulled in the clutch and the gear indicator display switched from 5 to "_".
      Have a good one!!
      Kevin

      Hey Neal...I picked it up from Two Wheeled Motorsports in Guelph. I was very pleased with the whole process there. They offered me a good price on my trade-in so overall everything went well. Was tough leaving behind the big Indian RM though lol but I have really been enjoying the MG.@@nealmercer1590

    Nice video. I like how you describe your experience with the V7. I have an older 2014 V7 and even though the top speed isn't great, the low weight and torquey engine makes up for that. It's loads of fun in the twisties and in the hills! Still love mine 🙂

    Good initial review....I enjoyed the ride! I have the previous version V7 III Special and it is a fantastic bike and the new 850 even better. I have Agostini pipes on mine and the sound is amazing.

    Just caught this video. Fun riding with you. I love it when someone gets their first ride on a Guzzi. At first, man this is strange then after a bit of time, this bike is cool. I am on my 3rd Guzzi, still own two of them. One of them is just like the one you rode, a Special. I just bought a new Mandello. Once you get a Guzzi then they pretty much become all you want to own. Guzzi owners, Guzzisti, are passionate about the brand. You rode it right, they like to be wound up.

      Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment. I'm a dyed in the wool Triumph guy with my eyes now on the new Scrambler 400. I wanted a small cc bike for riding the back roads where I am, and the price of about 5.5k is great. But before I leave this life, I want a Moto Guzzi in my garage. I love the way the engine is arranged where the heads are visible while riding. I also love the unique feel from the engine on start-up and, during acceleration, very special. Ride safe, my friend.

    I'm old Guzzi fun,my grandfather had 250 that was in garage the most of my life.
    My first"big" bike is V35 Imaola,started to ride at 15 years of age,still have it but need little paint and love.
    I drove most HD in last 20 years but after I drove V9 bobber i felt what guzzi is again,then tested used 1400 Custom and finaly last year I bought beautifoul silver Custom with additional original touring bags,seat,backrest and windshield for the long travel.
    Dumping RK for Guzzi is the best thing I done in last 10 years of my life...

    Beautiful... gear indicator is calculated when In gear, annoying. No fuel guage, annoying. My mirros also came loose on my first ride, quicky changed them for bar ends which suit it better. Stone version is blacked out but you have to give up the nice twin clocks for a single LCD unit...but you do get excellent LED lighting all round to compensate. Plenty of performance for all but The Nutters or crusing highways, but it'll do it if you don't mind the wind blast. Thw way it delivers thw performance is lovely, as you describe. It's a simple pleasure, as pure a motorbike as you can get these days. Bella.

  • @bmp72
    @bmp72 10 місяців тому +2

    It probably calculates the gear from the relation between speed and rpms. That’s why it doesn’t know in which gear you are when standing still. Your Yamaha probably has a 6 position switch somewhere in the transmission.

    • @35southkiwi16
      @35southkiwi16 10 місяців тому +3

      You are right in that it compares the speed over ground to the revs and calculates the gear to display. Actually works pretty well for me, amazing how many people just dont get it though

    Nice video 😁 are many streets in the states in such bad conditions?

    • @nu_rider955
      @nu_rider955  10 місяців тому +1

      Yes, there are lots of bad roads here , but there are lots of good roads too. Mostly, the bad roads are in high traffic areas, and we have large trucks and farm equipment running through the county side. In Detroit and the larger cities here, the roads are horrific. You could destroy a motorcycle wheel if you're not paying attention.

      Hi, really didn't feel the need for 6th gear, the bike has plenty of low end torque. Now if we would have gotten on the freeway then yes 6th gear would have been useful.
