I really want to get into digging around casually but I find these claims etc are impossible to do. Any tips on where to go or what to do about every single possible area already being claimed?

Thanks for being honest with people about the water levels. The media hype seemed ridiculous. It wasn’t anything that seemed like it would cause erosion and snow is still melting. Water will be a little lower by the end of summer hopefully.

Since both of you two R Alpha Males akin to myself. And we all went to the river last week. I think I should report my findings. I found a bunch of sand with shiny FLakes in it. Im not sure if it's gold but it's shiny and yellow. It might be pyrite or zinc idk. But how crazy is it that we all hit the river last week.

Jerry... GREAT to see sweet Candice back! She's the real deal when it comes to riches on the river... :) I was just out there last week....8 days on the NF American. NO big ass snow pack melt flooding or river churning or gold redepositing. VERY sad. :( Just a slow, undulating daily melt and up/down water flow. Bummer! Oh well... Creviced 2 days with nil results. Sluiced 6 days and got 4.20 grams of very nice, flaky old time flood gold from low grade high bench material deposited WAY before this year. Will be back in September. :) Randy C-17A

You're right Jerry. Epic snow pack but we never saw an epic flood event. We needed 15,000 cfs plus to move the super giant boulders. But I'm hoping it moved some. Great video, as usual.

You should save all the blacksands because there is a lot of gold locked up in them. After you get a large amount do an aqua rega, chlorine separation, or smelting to retrieve the gold.
Some people save the black sands (55 gal barrels) worth to turn in. There's gold, platinum everything metals all through them!
If black sand is what you're after. Go to ocean beach in San Francisco. There's magnetite sand all over the beach.

Where in California are you prospecting. I'm on fork's of salmon river . I think I found a nugget of Platinum . Never found it before so not sure if it is platinum. It weighs 7.5grams . I'm a member of GPAA. Haven't been to any of the GPAA claims yet .
Hopefully some time today I'll be in happy camp. In somes bar still trying to catch a ride there .

you’re not gonna find define gold with a metal detector. A metal detector will never pick it up. Most gold is Fine.. The consistency of salt. Placer gold. Do you need a snuffer bottle, and a magnet to pull out the magnetite that is always present when you find Placer gold.
I like to take my concentrates home to pan them out carefully using a find, mini sluice, and then pan it. Take your concentrates home to process them. Save your magnetite because people buy that from you

I have found nice surface nuggets on the American. Still have a 4 gram nug I picked up in the early 90s. Thanks show me the nuggets!

Nice gold but nothing like the 97 flood, my first nugget was 3oz at the high water mark. And my average, at numerous unclaimed locations was 3.5 oz's a day for months sniping and detecting;)

I wish i could find a good place to pan or run a sliuce box. Every place ive gone to are trying to charge 120 for an hour of panning like in james town. What a rip off.
