After doing a lot of research we finally made it out to an area we believe has another waterfall but this one is in the middle of the desert and the current temperature out there is 115 degrees so this should be interesting.. We found this by using our secret number set and if you want to see how those works just watch this video ua-cam.com/video/USg1MtJggo0/v-deo.html and smash that like button ....SMAS IT HARD !!!!!!
My guess is the course gold came from the upper sample and the Indians don’t know you’re there , Just kidding cowboy. Thanks for the video.
@@NorCalNeel Lol
Wow....that's awesome Jeff. Stay safe out there. No amount of gold is worth your life.
A thought, can you use a blower instead of water to pan the gold?
Not only are you my favorite gold miner, prospector, and geologist, you are my only gold miner, prospector, and geologist! When you find the best, the hell with the rest! Thanks for another awesome video Jeff!
Arizona Summers are no joke, to anyone that goes out during the peak summer heat make sure you bring more water than you think you need!! Great video Jeff
exactly ..... it will sneak up on you and thats no bueno
@@Askjeffwilliams I will gladly volunteer to be your water caddie! lol
Do not traverse the AZ desert in the summer!!
“And yeah your gunna get burnt!” 😂
and wet............LOL
This HAS to be my all-time favorite gold prospecting channel: a guy with loads of personality PLUS actual credentials as a professional geologist i.e. duh best of both worlds!
thanks my brother
Gotta love Jeff….the most knowledgeable gold guy going! Thanks for everything you do Jeff…perfect balance of gold education and funny entertainment…..
thanks
Jeff, you can't mine gold if you are dead. I have suffered heat prostration close to heat stroke , my pocket thermometer read 130degF. I never noticed what was going on but do recall when the wind blew it felt very cool. It was when someone looked at me and said I was white as a sheet and felt me and said your in trouble. So for Lila and our sake be careful! Thanks again for the great lesson and adventure.
thanks my brother .....I had that happen too when I was out running in Death Valley in August ...... wanted to see what was at the bottom of the Ubehebe crater
@@Askjeffwilliamsfind anything cool. That crater is always fun to stop at when jeeping d.v
3:30 where you ran the magnet over the black sand and ended up with a "spiky" ball, reminded me of my vacation on a Greek island and stood on a sea urchin. I spent a couple of hours trying to pick out the spikes that was lodged between my toes 😅
THAT SUCKS REALLY-REALLY BAD!!! Yes, i KNOW that one....owowowowowowowowowwwwwww
Poor sea urchin ☹️
Morning Jeff, love all the adventures you share with us. Stay Golden 👊✌️😆🇺🇸⚒️⚒️⚒️⚒️
good morning my brother ...thanks
Hey jeff! I am a member of a group that has claims around barstow. We have found gold in washes coming off hillsides. Ive wondered where is this gold coming from. Its chunky so it hasnt travled very far. There is quartz float everywhere on top of these hills but no vein in sight. Is this a huge flood plane that left all this material? Maybe you could do a short video on this area so we can better follow the clues.
The bull quartz IS your vein indicator. All the mineralization has been weathered out, so all the mineral values are below ground. If you have float, you have veins. You just have to find it.
Between Cleghorn Lakes Mountains and Fort Irwin is something strange, it totally seems like a flood basin but at the same time you gotta remember that it's not part of the great basin unlike the region to the north/northeast with Death Valley and north of Holloran Springs, where Baker is deep in that hole. It's weird I tell, just straight weird.
So much black sands everywhere but where the hell can these veins be. It doesn't seem possible that it can be all Placer deposits strewn that far from the San Bernardino range but what if that were possible?
@UncommonDenominatorj528 my thoughts are that it is one giant flood basin. There are no indicators of hard rock gold anywhere for miles in all directions. The gold is spotty and very random. It's a huge Placer deposit left by a massive flood. It's so widespread that it's difficult to follow any known clues.
@dionh70 I guess what I'm asking is how do you find the vein if the float is on top of a hill? Don't you follow the float up? There is no vein where it could have come from . The float is 30 to 40 lbs. It couldn't have come from far away unless it was a massive flood even then it would have sunk into the gravel.
@@waynelacroix8870 friggin amazing, like I said this little region is weird.
So you say that in all directions there are no indicators of hard rock gold, which is confusing but not entirely impossible, yet when you say that you are finding float on the tops of hills then are these like crystal quart points or are they very fine metamorphic chunks with embedded minerals? Because that shit is weirder than I thought yet I remain questioning that it's impossible to be from great distances.
Flood basin is very possible after all, I don't deny that even if we are not part of the Great Basin, now a massive flood seems possible too but less likely as I have not seen any evidence presented that there was such a massive flood. Nevertheless, if there was a massive flood it would explain a few things I am sure, just not everything.
The topography for example would make a little more sense if the desert was gradually sloping 1 direction from here to the Colorado River, but that's not the case. So here is my thought on something that can leave evidence that looks like a massive flood but actually wasn't, sounds crazy but since this region is strange it might not be all that impossible.
First thing to note is that there are very many different isotopes of Gold and from a chemistry standpoint there are a plethora of circumstances for why Quartz is a good indicator of its presence but even Iron Pyrite can be an indicator too. Moreover, though very uncommon Gold can be found as a stable salt such as Tellurides, among a few others. The purest Gold likely still has a half-life but it's so freaking long that we consider it infinite for practical purposes.
Now though we are very certain of the reality that when there is quartz float there is almost always a vein somewhere, the idea that's its 100% guaranteed that the vein has NOT been completely eroded away may be wrong. And I would venture a guess that if such a circumstance in a particular environment exists, the Mojave desert here is a great candidate for such environment.
Crazy as it sounds, I may be possible that this region holds evidence of a "very long period" of constant (maybe not consistent) mineral deposition which could have completely eroded many (likely not all, but perhaps maybe for the Placer you are finding) once pre-existing veins. This of course would take a very long time but totally possible and even though most Gold Isotopes don't have such a long half-life, the few most stable Isotopes do; one of the unique and very valuable properties of this element. So even after a vein is gone and eroded, widespread evidence of Placer from such a vein will still be there and the crazy part is that not all of it will be buried and entombed in the earth forever, very possible that new erosion patterns start exuming it from its tomb and bring it to the surface.
Now here's the craziest part, erosion and deposition are always happening even when the surface has Grasslands, Forests or any type of ecosystem where there is a thick coat of vegetation but when vegetation is sparce these phenomenon happen more rapidly and by no coincidence does that leave a DESERT as the one ecosystem which itself has unique properties just like the minerals it holds. This might not seem to be very crazy but this circumstance implies speeding up geological forces and so it likely goes hand in hand with speeding up Radioactive Decay of its minerals that are the least stable and of which have more unstable Isotopes. Yes, I totally forced the discussion into basic particle physics.
Let's say for example tha the Placer you are finding is both very stable and is also very OLD, ancient per say. Not at all impossible. So that should also beg the question of why the gold isn't buried so deeply if it is old, unless the geological forces contributing to new erosion patterns are bringing to he surface (exuming) what could be "ancient placer". So even if this was OR still is an active flood basin, totally plausible, the phenomenon of gold sinking into the dirt very likely is happening but could be sinking into soil where there is NO HARD ROCKS containing gold but ancient Placer scattered everywhere, making it appear to not be sinking. See what I am trying to convey here? I know, friggin mind boggling but might just make sense.
Even though it's horrible to think that the specific Placer you are finding may be making you chase a vein that is long gone, for that I feel like an A**, so hopefully I am wrong about your particular circumstance but if not im sorry mate. Like, if the float is already at, or near, the top of the hill, then perhaps the hill in question was either much smaller or wasn't even a hill at the time when the deposition was coming from a Vein that wasn't completely eroded yet and the very parcel of earth on/near the top of this hill in question was relatively lower (downhill) and downstream from where such vein in question was located. Now that's friggin crazy 🤪...
There is a UA-cam channel from a man named "Myron Cook", I love it because his way of explaining resonates with me and the things he explores are wild. Check him out, he has a video discussing the topic of "The Ancient Rockies" which are long gone and eroded away but have left fragments behind that are being unearthed thanks to the forces which are present in maintaining the current Rocky Mountains.
Looks like a beautiful day at lake Mojave! Lucky ducky
Jeff, your knowledge of gold, mining, and geology is awesome! I could listen to it all day and not get bored!
Wow, thanks! much appreciated
115F (46C) just a typical summer day here in Australia. Just stay hydrated. Kinda wish those desert trumpets grew here in Oz as an indicator
Fine gold?!! That looked like big treasure to me!!😅
🎶 *Do* go chasing waterfalls 🎶
Love watching your videos Especially when you are walking around explaining things. You always have your "Oh squirrel" moments when you see a new rock. I do the same things when out prospecting. I never walk as far as I plan, too many cool rocks to look at.
If I was in the middle nowhere and heard vacuuming i would get concerned lol great video thank you sir
White shirts, like those made for fishers help reflect much of the sunlight and are vented for airflow. perfect for hot environments
I love the Az Desert especially in the summer.. I can take the heat, but put me in 40 degree.. I freeze to death lol, 115 is amazing, camped out there for 4 days outside Quartzite, no tent no nothing, under the stars, it was the greatest time ever!
Jeff looking for the ketchup in the refrigerator right in front of him. Finds gold
"AH MY GLASSES !" That's me every time LOL
In his other video he talks about securing your glasses or you will lose them in the river. I lost mu glasses in a river once and it took me about 2hr of looking and not giving up but I actually found them and they were not even scratched.

Wet Toe's don't you know! Huh! Jeff! 😂😅
hehe, every now & again one of Jeff's videos pop back up in my feed. And every single time my mind pops back to when he used to walk around with that freaky skeleton all those years ago. Good to see you are still alive & well.
Rock on my brother and Slim is still around
The chunky one contact since the gold in waterfall had to come from distance.
Oooooh Jeff all that shiny again in your pan, but where did it come from....... was it all those holes you sucked out on that old waterfall , or was it that amazing outcrop ..... holy smokes i really hope its that outcrop, cause that means there is a lot lot more to be had ! Could even be another drift mine in the making !! I went through the Arizona desert in the middle of June, it was more than hot for a Limey far from home i can tell you ! But its ok, as even back then I knew that to be out there doing anything you need to get wet ! In my case I used to fiill my helmet with water at the gas station and put it on ! Id be dry again in thirty miles down the Highway ! Best and Funniest Gold school here on UA-cam, and yeah a hit the Like Button and hit it hard at 999 and was proud to take you to the 1K Likes !!
thats great and yes water in the hat is a great tip for being out there ....thanks for taking us over the threshold my brother
Amazing! Classic Jeff W. I haven't watched in a while, but you seem to seem to have settled into a more relaxed but still interesting and educational style. I WILL watch more. I actually have dreams about finding ancient waterfalls with big placer gold.
Glad you enjoyed it!
The thought came to me that if you took a stethoscope into your drift mine you could hear your running water easier. You might be able to track down other running water and get an idea of direction. You could listen in the sump also to determine if there was a river under it. You might use the old mechanic's trick of a screwdriver on your ear also..Stethoscope can be found at some surplus stores.
great idea
Jeff,
I always carry a big golf umbrella when hiking in the desert sun. It's instant shade and really makes a big difference. Try it sometime, it works.
Love the mining shirt Mr. Williams!!
thanks
Yes sir another waterfall an trumpet plaint . Thank you for bringing us along an teaching us new stuff every episode. Be safe brother 🙏
You bet
Great gold out of those waterfall pockets , Yes , the summers in Desert regions can be very harsh indeed , should be a dry heat though . I see you found an Oasis to pan out in , Excellent !!! Love the Geology Jeff ✔👍👍 Cheers Ned . ✌
thanks Ned
Enjoyable. Haven’t watched you in awhile. Really the honest info and self observation -I did wonder whether you kept samplings separate
Thank you for the enjoyable share
Thanks you changed my mind for test samplings. I was going to get my mini drywasher and test sample each spot. But doesn't seem to be practical. The best is to get a mini vacuum, water for drinking, a mini shovel and brush.
Looks like you found yourself a gold mine ......You bet i`m smashing that like button ⛏⛏⛏⛏🌟🌟🌟🌟
yes we did but we had to earn it my brother .... you know how that AZ heat will sneak up on you ....now smash it again
Always the best Jeff! You always get me itching to try at least doing this once in my life. Maybe some day. Keep up the good content.
So much black sand!
any desertmuleys, muledeer bucks u ever jump outta there... nice gold country!
Very cool, super hot gold!! Crazy temps for sure. Stay safe out there!
That's pretty decent gold for a couple small samples! Betting that course piece came from the outcrop, waterfall gold would likely be warm and smoother. Great video Jeff, glad you didn't dehydrated 😂
exactly what we are thinking
Desert heat is killing Jeff! It can blow your pants clean of...and than we have another iss pants sticking problem Jeff!😂🎉🎉
It’s sucking the light stuff up, the heavy gold stays behind.. good luck.. 😮😮
Morning Jeff as we enter the summer months out here in the desert States if you're going to come play out here in Arizona and Nevada like Jeff said it's all about the water consumption make sure you plan well ahead you can expect to drink 6 to 10 pints of water per day as an example I'm starting my week getting used to the Heat where I'm sitting in my shop it's 95° I'll be here most of the day drinking water doing research for my upcoming 5-day prospecting trip this will be my last trip to the local deserts expect the temperature to be 105 to 115 July's trip will be into in the bradshaws the temperatures there will be more reasonable just a warning it's this time of year when most out-of-state treasure Seekers disappear stay out of the superstitious mountains one other thing when its this hot the snakes are laying in the shade keep a watch full eye when traveling through heavy Bush areas or narrow washes stay safe stay alive that's my PSA great video Jeff okay okay I'll say it come on let's go
great advice my brother
When I grew up, we were taught to not go chasing waterfalls... Apparently that was incorrect information.
they wanted them for themselves
Fun little video, Jeff. I wonder how many of the old timers with a bad case of gold fever succumbed to the desert heat. Maybe that's why it's called "fever". Stay cool!😅
a lot I would imagine
From hot and dry desert to fresh water lake ,i love a day like that 😊
Oh yes the guru of gold has struck it again. Great video
Thanks again!
Yes Jeff, I recognize that plant, it was an AZ shade tree. 😁

pretty much
This is super interesting. I don't know if I would ever get gold fever but, your videos give me "finding the gold" fever. Maybe they're one and the same.
💛...mad dogs and englishmen... then, there's jeff...a whole new definition of hot rocks...
Jeff, you listed off a bunch of chemicals (ie hematite magnetite feldspar muscovite(mica) etc. ) all used in stick welding electrode coatings. Cool.
" Oh, it's a dry heat." Let me tell ya something folks, 115* is brutal hot and will sap ya quicker than all get out. Be safe out there and drink that water friends.
exact;y ..... especially in direct sunlight
I've got a DeWalt D5000 gold vacuum, it would be great to vacation in AZ sometime! 👏
People overlook the fact that some waterfalls are seasonal from rainstorms in a monsoon season. While not there at all in other seasons. People skipped and walked right past a dry place in wrong season. People couldn’t even travel to certain remote places if no water is around. Can only go there in winter time. It rains and makes waterfalls etc. At other times of year not a drop of water
I didn't know that Garrett panning kit I got for my wife came with a tweezer, gold guzzler suction bottle, gold vials and a magnifier 😎 Thank you for links 🔗 Jeff 🤠⛏️
Right on
Looking forward to that next video 👍
I find gold every time I look for it. Silver too! I just go to my local coin shop and pick up precious metals at will!
Native of AZ here, the western deserts of az can get hotter than a 2 peckered billiegoat. Watch out for snakes in the shade and in the mine entrances. Just because the sun goes down doesnt mean your safe from the critters. Remember, in the southwest deserts, every critter becomes nocturnal. Watch out for scorpions and centipedes flipping rocks. And dont forget about those dam black widow spiders they can ruin your day.
Maybe our favorite gold miner, prospector, AND geologist should become nocturnal. If your dead, a whole mine of gold isn't going to do you any good.
that time a year again, leaving the house at 2:30 to be at my spot at first light and out by 9:00. 113 a couple days ago, June last year was like May.

I definitely need to have you up on my claim. 😊 again great video Jeff
Damn taking a vacuum with you that’s genius!!
thanks
The coarse piece had to be from the outcrop. You didn't see an outcrop at the waterfall, so the gold had to tumble down it. That would have taken the coarseness out of it. Maybe the flattened pieces were from the waterfall.
I got heat stroke watching this... and I liked it🤪
