This is 100% an issue I'm having and the noise is exactly the same. This vid has been extremely helpful, thanks.
Glad it helped
@@BudgetMechanicHawaii Same noise for me, thank you. Sadly I just got back from the garage and they said brakes are all good..!!
I'm having this issue with the exact same car
@@BudgetMechanicHawaii by estimate, how much longer can you safely drive a car with such condition. example..is it safe to drive it for 2 -3 days prior to weekend ?
Thank you! This is the same problem that I'm having.
Now the task is finding an honest mechanic
There are several!
If you have an integrity automotive near you, they’re amazing! DO NOT TRUST MIDAS!! 🤦🏻♀️ over thousands I’ve dollars later & my brakes are still grinding!
Just go to Hawaii!
You're supposed to do it yourself...or else why watch the video?
Thought that problem was only in my country 😢
I been a mechanic for over 40 years and you need to resurface the rotors on a brake pad change . I did a test to others to prove my point. I took a 2014 Cruze and pads were almost worn out and rotor still looked new. I checked the runout on the rotor and one side was 5 thousandth and the other side was 8 thousandth, then changed only the pads and let’s my doubters drive the car. Everyone of them said they felt a vibration or shutter when they braked. I removed the rotors and had them turned at an auto parts store and got new brake pads and let my doubters drive the car again! They drove the car again and were blown away how the turned rotors produced no vibration or shutter in the steering wheel!
This video is exceptionally good because it outlines nuance in:
- the problem
- the cause
- diagnostics
- the fixes
Thanks 🤙🏽
Yes!!!!! This is the noise my car is making!!!! I was so worried because it doesn't make the noise when i hit the brakes, but when I'm driving.
did you fixed it?
The same thing happened to me and it was caused by a bent "Brake Backing Plate", try checking that out befoe replacing rotors and breakepads. Hope that helps.
Hi I had this same noise while driving not braking. I have replaced the brake caliper and it has stopped.
That was a lot more information than i thought the video would give me. I think me and my buddies will be able to fix it now
Thank you...thought my bearings had gone....but it sounded exactly the same...so fingers crossed its my pads...well done mate from the uk 👍🏻
I just wish that I find an honest mechanic 😳 this video is very helpful! Thanks
Real detailed and informative. Thank you keep it up 👍🏾
Well of course it's good, all he has to do is mechanic stuff and sun tanning on the beach in Hawaii... OMG 😡🤬😤!!!
I usually don't comment below, but this is so helpful. Thank you so much!
Very helpful, honest, and educational
My brother needs this listen to video... Thank u so much. Very helpful.
Nice video man, I had my own assumptions with my 1998 Saab 900. Just heard the chirping noise when I was rolling in first gear. Lifted my front end and shook the tires and checked my cv boots. No play in the bearing and the axles were still in great shape. The pads are probably at 60% and the rotors are in decent shape. I had never considered the glazing of the rotor to create an audible chirping noise. I just got the vehicle and it's at about 70k miles with pretty much all OEM parts. I almost made a rookie mistake and loaded the parts cannon. Thanks dude
I've been telling my mechanic I have been having this sound basically since my last brake change, but the sound isn't a constant, and I've never been able to actually show them the sound, because of course when I go to see them the car doesn't make it, but when I'm NOT seeing my mechanic its so loud I feel like I'm waking up half the neighborhood on my way to work. So they just say they will check it out whenever I bring my car in for something else, last time they were saying that its probably a serpentine belt, but I knooow it's something with the brakes. I am SO thankful for this video, because it's the only one that has had the exact sound I have had, as well the fact that it stops when the brake is applied. Usually a hard brake will make the sound dull or stop for a time. So at least now I can show the mechanic the sound if nothing else.
What did ur Mechanic do?
@@Unknown7765f Had my brakes done, Still still happening too, took it in again and they said a caliper was loose, but it's still makin a sound but I just haven't had the time to get back in.
Dude thank you !!!! I’ve been contemplating wether I should just take it to a shop and have them do the work, now knowing it’s just pads I’m saving myself a buttload of money 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Rotors don’t cost that much I don’t know what you mean by buttload of money depending on where you go and what car you got
Very helpful! The noise is the same exact spot and sounds exactly the same
this was so helpful I couldn’t figure out what was making that squeaking noise in my car
Finally found the sound I'm hearing! I assumed it was the brakes but I also have known I had warped rotors so I was just going to replace it all anyway but glad I found this vid!
Glad I could help!
I love this channel!!! It’s the best!!!
Thanks for your help! Great video
Thanks for the video. Definitely helped in diagnosing my brake problem.
have you found the solutioon?
Thanks for the tips My son in law did brake job on my 08 highlander and we just replace brakes pads the rotor is still good man life is hard with inflation. Maybe later on I replace the whole hardware.
Life saver!!!!!! I've taken my car to two mechanics and they couldn't find the issue. Thanks for making this video
Glad it helped!
so did you fix it?
@@crestfall4Yes, it was due to the rust built up on the outer part of my rotors making contact with the brake shield. I bent my brake shield back a bit temporarily which seem to help. Then I swapped the rotors and pads for new ones and the noise never came back.
This is so helpful. My car, one tyre has the same noise in the same situations. Thank you
I brought my car to the local mechanic and my right front wheel squeaks. That was done yesterday brand new rotors and brand new very expensive brake pads. A hundred and seventy dollars worth of work. I called this morning and they're not answering the phone. I'm going to drive down there. Brand new brakes, brand new Rotors. I did not notice it until hours later when I had to take a ride somewhere . I used to do my own breaks. But now that I'm older. I do not have the facility or tools. So now I rely on mechanics. That is going to change. For 200.00 I could have bought a whole toolbox and jack stands and did it myself.
Wow you explained my situation to the NAIL !!!! Thank you 🙏🏾
So glad! 🤙🏽
Brilliant video thank you, delighted to hear they are all easy fixes. Going to take my wheel off tomorrow that's making the noise just to confirm
Noticed the same noise on my bike. Will look to replace the pad or de-glaze the rotor.
Thank you.
I’m hoping this is my issue. Noise increases when turning wheel slightly to the left or right but gone when in full turn or just idling. Bought the car today and it started this evening 😢. Didn’t do it when test driving, but brakes hadn’t warmed up yet. They did just replace rear pads and rotors.
It’s so great you take the time to reply to comments even way after original post. Thanks for making these vids!
Yes I would inspect the front brakes too for glazing etc.
Thanks for watching!
Damn this is literally exactly what I'm going through. I just had my brake pads and rotors changed a week ago, and I think it's been happening since then. I gotta go to the mechanic again I guess. Thanks for the informative video!
Thanks so much.. I am getting my break pads changed tomorrow..
Great information, thanks
This was extremely helpful since I also have the same issue with a less extreme sound.. my brake pads were changed maybe 3,000KM ago but my rotors does seem to be a little worn but not bad. If I could email you the photo's of my Pads and Rotors to get your suggestion on what I should do if a New Rotor would be the best move
You make the best videos hands down.... YOU Taught me a lot as a single mother On Budget
So glad to hear that 🤙🏽
I dont usually do this but thank you that helped alot 💯Your Good man!
Thanks!
100% helped thank you!
I cant do it myself where I live. I'll need to take the car in. Just started the sqeeking noise until I hit the brakes. It stopped after 4 stop signs then started back up as I pulled in. I just had a full brake job with rotars and pads 6k miles ago. Its discouraging. Thank you for letting us hear the noise and what it was. I was afraid I'd lose my breaks.
Finally found the sound! Lmao my front passenger tire only makes the noise when my wheel is straight, & it stops when I turn the wheel in either direction & apply the brakes. I never thought about it only happening when it gets warm. But that makes soo much sense since it seems to happen a good 10-15mins down the road.. I don't go far & barely drive anywhere I try to make one trip every week or 2 weeks.. but now I know what to tell my mechanic 😅 & living in Pennsylvania I know all about the hills lol
Thank you soo much for this video every other video on youtube was a different squeak lol
Glad it helped!
Thank you so much! I notice this sound when I was cruising at 10-20 mph on a flat street but the sound would go away when I was on the highway or when I’m at 0 mph. Just bought my car and got it inspected twice and it was all good but this is a new sound I heard a few days ago. Will get my brake pads replaced!!
did you figure it out ?
exactly the same. i changed pads 3 months ago. After the car heats up, the noise is most noticeable between 10 to 20 kilometers per hour, but it's less pronounced at high speeds. Do you know why now?
Your amazing!!! Thank you! 🙏 This was soo helpful
Thanks so much for this so helpful
I will have my pads changed
Great work
Love this video. Honest mechanic
Thanks for watching!
Just found this sounds the same, trying to stop them from making this sound my initial thought they are binding but I have freed up any signs of that, and still same next I will put the pads on.
Car was stood 2 years so I'm not surprised that they needs replacement.
Anywho thanks for this info really helpful
Good work 👍
I'm going to check the hardware when i get home, I had trouble getting them in for some reason on my back right wheel, which just so happens to be the wheel I'm hearing this same noise. I'll be sure to check the pads as well
Trying to diagnose this noise. Exact issue. Thanks for the vid
Glad it helped
Same problem here Thanku sir thanku so much धन्यबाद for solu
Great Video
Very informative and accurate good video👍
Glad you liked it
I have that noise today & going to the mechanic tomorrow. I thought it was a brake related issue. I am hoping it does not cost too much.
Thank you! That's what my car is going through. Grinding sound after a while of driving. Then Everytime I step on the brakes the sound goes away. I'll take a look at my brakes this weekend. Thanks again!
Good luck!
@@BudgetMechanicHawaii I just finished fixing it. In the process, I also changed the brake pads. I also noticed that there was a small brake clip stuck on the caliper bracket. I think that's what misaligned the brake pad. So it kept on grinding on the rotor. Went out for an hour drive and bingo! The noise went away and still no noise at all. Thanks again
Great video
Good video!
WOW i have a 2020 porsche cayenne coupe and same exact noise on mines driving me crazy thank you for this video.
You're welcome!
Man I think you solved my problem ! I have a video I wish there was a way I can send you it
Thank you❤
Very helpful 👌 thanks
No problem 👍
this is the exact same issue i’ve been having im going to fix it next week when i dont have work!
Thanks buddy!
Very informative video. Thank u. I have this issue but the mechanic has said that my brakes are all good. Recently got new brake pads & rotors end of last year. Should I js replace brake pads even if theyre new?
Thanks!
Very helpful thx
Thanks a lot! That solved my problem. Had the exact same noise when brakes got hot. New brake pads solved the problem.
Thanks man 🤙🏽
i have brand new pad and its making the noise!! so annoying
@@crestfall4same here, and I really don’t know what’s up at this point. Like got my pads and rotor changes 1.5 month ago, and this sound just came in quick..
i have ordered a new pads, cant stand the noise anymore... hopefully it get fixed!@@ericc.514
@@ericc.514did you figure it out yet??
Can I hit the like button twice!! Thanks bruh
Thanks
This was just what I needed now I can tell my brother who replaced my breaks he need to go back and check to see if there are any dents somewhere as to why I’m STILL hearing the scrap sounds I hear the noises real bad when I back up and I’m not even stepping on the breaks
Hey. Did you ever find out what was actually causing the screeching metal sound?
@Farm Life fun Thank you very much for sharing the info
I found a couple of days by inspecting it myself that my brake shields were so badly rusted they had bent and flaked metal onto the rotor
Fixed the noise by getting down to the rotor, brushing off all of the rusted metal I could and bending the shield further away from the rotor
I just need to take off the rotor now and give it a better cleaning to fully fix the issue
@@wolfstar5815 Hi! Yes they were bad back breaks, once we replaced the back breaks it was all good from there 🤷🏽♀️
so changing the pads would fix it? i have ap racing pads like a week ago and its making this exact noise.. apracing pads should be able to witshtand heat.. I have tried brushing the pads, it goes away for couple days and after that noise came back.. will be ordering a new set of front pads. couldnt handle the sound anymore@@wingedhawkkappaloosa50
thanks dude
Appreciate u man
On point
Hmm, was hoping this would solve my question, but great video! What would cause a tink tink tink sound from rest and then starting off? But stops once driving at speed. Only happens at slow speed taking off, driver's side wheel area.
I hear a similar grinding sound that seems to be coming from my front left tire, but it's only when I start driving, it goes away after a few minutes, and sometimes it doesn't do it at all. I guess I'll check the pads and go from there.
Thank you!
You're welcome!
Same issue here with my brembo brakes too ever since I put in some EBC yellow stuff pads. Geez….
I have this issue ill be ahowing this vid to my mechanic tomorrow lol save me explaining the problem 🤣
Abrasive Friction:
Abrasive friction involves breaking the crystalline bonds of both the pad material and the cast iron of the disc. Breaking these bonds generates the heat of friction. In abrasive friction, the bonds between the crystals of the pad material (and to a lesser extent, the disc material) are permanently broken. The harder material wears the softer away, meaning the disc wears the pad.
Adherent Friction: When brake pads press against the surface of the steel disc, some of the pad material transfers directly to the surface of the disc forming a thin, uniform layer. The surface of the steel disc and the surface of the brake pad become identical in composition. As the disc moves between the pads, friction material transfers in both directions, breaking and reforming bonds at the molecular level..
The question is... what caused the glazing in the first place? I'd begin my investigation with the caliper pins beginning to stick not backing the pads off wjen you release the brake pedal. Considering the noise goes away when more force is applied proves that the pads are in fact still lighty contacting the rotor.. extra drag warms pad and rotor causing thermal expansion. Extra force applied going down hill gives it the extra heat it need to remain hot by constant contact.. rotor cannot shed its heat and warps. .
What’s the fix
Thanks dude.
No problem!
Fuck yes!!! Thank you for taking the time to make this video… I needed a study guide lol
This was so helpful! My car is making that exact noise. So are you saying in this case you didn’t need rotors, only pads?
Lori, I think I read that if the rotors only have some wear that new brakes will fill in the grooves, if the grooves aren't too deep.
Finally found the answer on gaWd how do I thank yah
great video,
btw what was the primary cause of overheating - low grade pads, or just heavy breaking because of hills?
i have AP racing pads, and its making the noise. its irritating
What about a squeal/high pitched sound, only after up to temp, when riding the brakes? In traffic.
It’s only at a certain spot when depressing the brake pedal, about mid stroke.
Almost a year ago I bought new Hyundai and it is my first car with automatic transmission (torque converter). From first day brakes squeaks when I in D or R slowly releasing brakes in order to slowly start moving, or in short moment prior to stop. They told my that this is normal for automatic transmission because in D or R car is pushing to move, so if brakes is slowly releasing but still touching wheels that cause that sound. But I can't believe that nothing can be done in this case. I ask some people and some told me that they have the same experience, with other brands too (even Mercedes and Audi), but some told me that they never had this experience with different cars with automatic transmission. Can you please tell me your experience with this, and your advice about what can be done about this? I have discs in the front and drums on the back.
Can it effect acceleration.
Both my front wheel bearings were replace and this sound showed up within hours. I called the garage- don’t know whether something was over-tightened when putting it back together after bearings were changed.
Can glaze be a defect on the pad?
I got my pads a couple of months ago and they are making this same squeal/scraping noise.
I just got my pads changed on my car 2 weeks ago, when I drove off after pads were replaced it was making a slight noise so I didn’t think nothing of it XL here I am 2 weeks later my break sound exactly the same
I have a problem wear the clips are hitting the rotor but on my Altima the two drop tines in the middle are what’s hitting even after replacing with a fresh clip
Hey Ive just had my brakes changed and today it's making that noise, any suggestions? Should I go back to the garage and have a word?
Im hearing this sane exact noise but only when i brake i just got my back brakes down a few wks ago and really didn't hear any noise until yesterday. I only hear it at certain times when pressing breaks and not everytime I press on them as well. Idk if its coming from front or back brakes. Im thinking back but not aure HELLPPPPP
This was my problem?.thx
Glad it helped 🤙🏽
This sound was driving me absolutely crazy this was exactly what was wrong with my car , thank you so much
You're welcome!
Why did the pad get hot initially to cause the glazing?
to the point.
So when i reverse theres this weird noise that occurs that sounds kind of like a zipper. Could that be because of the pads as well?
I thought I warned you about them brakes. That's trouble with this town everybody wants to put off things till tomorrow. I'm writing you a ticket
i just bought new AP racing brake kit & having the same problem.. its still not fixed and does happen everyttime.. sad that its not cheap to buy the pads right away. are you sure its the pads? Could i got unlucky got bad pad?
i am trying to become a mechanic. i am 19 with my own small clothing brand and i started working as an assistant in a mechanic shop 5 days ago with no real experience on cars. is there any tips you can give me ? & is it somewhere i can take online classes for auto mechanic services ?
Would a bad wheel bearing make that same sound? Thanks so much for this video, I’m hoping my problem is just a glazed break pad
No
It was a broken brake clip! Good thing I didn’t buy the new wheel bearing
@@monicab.8410 I've replaced mine twice and still can't find the issue 😕 glad you got yours sorted
So if I change my driver side brake pad, do I need to change the passenger side or do I just swap out that one pad?
