I think the Pilot Elite 95S (as it is called in Europe) is one of the greatest pens ever. I can't think of anything negative about it. It is absolutely unique. It is a pleasure to use and a beauty to admire, It is in my Top5 of fountain pens and I love it,
My fountain pen jones began with my purchase of a black Pilot E95s with a fine nib. My wife received her ivory/burgundy version about a month later as a Valentine’s Day gift. I gifted my son’s girlfriend with mine at Christmas last year. I find myself sneaking my wife’s to use from time-to-time despite owning a half-dozen other pens. It it is an overlooked giant.
I LOVE my E95s! I use it just about every day. Capping it is so satisfying! This was my first higher priced fountain pen purchase. I was not disappointed. The feel of the nib is unparalleled and absolutely surprised me. I had no idea that a fountain pen could be so enjoyable to write with…!
I agree with everything you said about the marvelous e95s. One downside you didn't mention is that the converter ink chamber is completely obscured by the threaded portion of the section in use. I've taken to using syringe refilled cartridges so I can see my ink level
I refill the cartridges, too, in my Elite , for the larger capacity and the visibility of the remaining ink. I haven't worn one out, i.e., sprung a leak, yet.
I never thought i would like this fountain pen until i tried this and instantly purchased one. I have a black one with a medium nib. This pen is one of the best fountain pens by pilot and certainly an understand pen. I am planning to buy one more soon thats how much i like it now.
Can’t wait to get mine! I too will have to wait several months. Thanks for pointing out the E can be a 3, because 3 is my favourite number. I’ll take that as a good sign! Splendid review
The Pilot e95s is a wonderful fountain pen! I have one in burgundy with a medium nib. I love this pen and I am going to buy one in black with a fine nib soon. I have other pens but I am very attached to this one!
First of all thank you Heminway Jones for paying attention to this fountain pen. I have the black version and also with a fine nib. I think this pen has everything you need to take with you wherever you go. I do use it with ink cartridges, because I don't have the converter. I was able to buy this pen from someone who owns a fountain pen shop. And this person brought this pen with him on his trip to Japan, it was unused and brand new in the original Japanese packaging. I cherish this fountain pen day after day and regularly alternate with the copper kaweco with the stub nib. This fountain pen fits perfectly with my midori passport size, full mobility and always ready to take notes.
I think I will purchase one of these in black as an upgrade from my LAMY Al Star, for some reason they don't seem to stock this pen around the UK but I can order it from overseas at a good price. My thoughts when first seeing this pen is that it really does seem to have an elegant almost feminine quality, pretty much spot on to what you described.
Another pen that you’ve drilled into my head. My first elite 95 came in today and I couldn’t be more dazzled by it. It may be my lightest and quickest writer. So much so that I had to try to get my handwriting back under control, as it was getting away from me. It’s a hell of a nice pen with a gold nib for just over $100. It also worked like a dream, strait out of the box.
I love the classic look of this. Part of the reason it might be underrated is that a lot of sellers don't seem to stock it. I'd have got one by now if it was readily available in this part of the world. At some point I'll get around to it, though.
Good morning from Brisbane - I purchased the e95 S recently . It being unobtrusive Ive been using it at the Bridge Club for recording scores : it doesn’t attract the vulgar attention of my 149 . As you say , the Elite is quietly understated & almost too delicate to the touch . I enjoyed the Beethoven . You asked for constructive comment : Kindly add music credits at the close of your programmes and review the OPUS 88 Opera if not done so . Martin 1947
Hello Martin, thank you very much for the great advice. It would be nice to have the tracks names there. They are all from the UA-cam Audio Library. I am glad you enjoy them. Some versions are very good. Opus 88 in on the list. Thank you and I am glad you are enjoying the E95S, It is an exquisite pen. Stop by again soon.
There it is....my favorite! That color is my favorite pen. My burgundy is a fine nib and my black one is a medium. I prefer the fine although the M is OK. Blessings
Hemingway, it is a nice pen. I was able to hunt down this pen's ancestor - the Pilot M90 this weekend at the Colorado Pen Show. It's a stunning specimen in Medium. I'm not usually a pocket pen person but have been seeking one for so long.....

Hello Irina, Welcome! Thank you for letting me know that you have just discovered fountain pens. I hope that you find as much joy and interest in this world as I do. All the best and please stop by again soon.
I have the Elite (same pen, different market), the burgundy & champagne with a medium nib. I had been longing for it for years, even while getting far more expensive piston fillers, for the inking system. Maybe that's part of the underrating: if we're already into fountain pens before we discover this pen, it can wait for other, more exciting options. Then, when we get the Elite/E95s, the quiet elegance wins our hearts. I carry mine at work often, where people notice it more for its beauty than for the peculiarity of using a fountain pen. I may say that the nib writes beautifully. I have encountered no posting issues, although, yes, I do make certain the clip and nib are aligned.

I have said it before and I’ll say it again: the Pilot E95s is just seemingly unbeatable on looks, style, price, value and performance among all its gold nibbed peers - whether Pilot or any other brand. I have both the burgundy and the black pens (both M nibs). Just wish a broad and italic AND other colors were available. I reckon I’d have bought two more, then. 🙂 As for being under-rated, I’ve heard of nobody who owns one rate the pens anything less than stellar. I have one by Platinum made circa 1970 that looks very similar to the 95S that it feels like a clone of one. Anyone know much about these and if they riffed on Pilot's 95S design?
I had a birthday on the 11th of this month. The e95s was supposed to be my gift to me. But my money was stolen out of my account by my rep. Payee. I'll figure that mess out after the Thanksgiving holiday...but anyways, I just wanted to share my excitement about the pen mine will be in the black gold trim scheme.
I just got this pen in Medium, and it has some hard starting issues. The first stroke after I uncap the pen always seems to skip. It also seems like I need to apply a moderate amount of pressure for the ink to lay down a saturated line width that I prefer. It also doesn't put down ink by its own weight, when I rest it on my palm and drag the nib across the paper. Is this normal with the Pilot e95s? Or should I return it? I'm wondering if this is a bug or a feature, because I notice the e95s has line variation that's sensitive to the amount of pressure you apply. It's a flexy nib that's different from any other Pilots I own (Kakuno, Explorer, Prera, 743 Medium).
Hard starting.. So sorry! I am sure you did the thorough clean and all that. Plus, try Kon-Peki ink or similar. Otherwise, it is an issue. It should be very wet and flowing. Pilot nibs are much more generous with ink in medium widths. Try a thorough clean and go from there. Sorry for this issue.
@HemingwayJones ah, I see, yes, I started out with the Pilot Iroshizuku Momiji, then I cleaned it and tried Pilot Iroshizuku Yama-budo. I also have Kon-peki, but i think it'll have the same result. If it's supposed to lay down ink effortlessly, then I will return it. I wasn't sure if this might be one of those pens that require "moderate pressure." Apparently Pilot 92 requires "moderate pressure" for it to write without skipping, according to Jet Pens in their description. Puttering Penman says that's what he doesn't like about it.

Wow, that deserves a video. Completely different. Soft long nib on the E95S, thinner, longer. 823 has the Vac fill and an exquisite nib. 823 is almost flawless. E95S is its own thing.
It’s more elegant than durable. I don’t worry about it but it’s not a Safari or Kaweco Brass! I wouldn’t toss it in a bag or allow it to get crushed. Thanks!
I had one of these for years but erroneously concluded it was too small for my large hands. It stayed in the family (gifted to my eldest daughter who has tiny hands!) but over time, I got to missing it and thought I was too hasty. She graciously allowed me to borrow it for a bit and upon re-use I wondered why I thought it was too small! I did return it to her ...and promptly bought another for my use! It stands unique in my collection as the only pen I bought twice!
I love this pen. it is very light. it’s built well and has an excellent nib. It is very sleek. The nib is outstanding. I would go try it somewhere first and make sure it is your thing. I love mine.
These are $78-$85 from Japan. No need to spend $130 on one. And not sure why you had to wait for so long to get your color way of choice, probably retailer specific, but you can get one shipped from Japan and delivered in a week or two tops. I just got a black/gold one off of Amazon from a Japanese seller. It was $75 and arrived in less that a week. Great pen, but I feel like I should have gone with the EF or F nib. With how light and portable the pen is, it really feels more suited to the finers nib options.
Hi Matt, At the time it was sold out in that color everywhere here in the US. I generally do not buy pens from Amazon. I have had issues! I even gave up my "influencer" page I had on there. I would definitely buy straight from a Japanese company. Thanks for the tip! This is very fine. You know Pilot! Thanks for the great information and all the best.
@@HemingwayJones Ah that makes sense! I usually prefer to buy locally if I can, but Pilot’s pricing is so crazy in North America vs. Japan. It can sometimes be $100+ price difference for the exact same pen! I’ll usually take a chance with Japanese Sellers if Amazon is the shipper, makes returns super easy if there is a problem. I haven’t had any issues yet, but I have heard some horror stories. Thanks for the content, really enjoyed watching this one!

Why? It’s interesting and unique. What issue do you find?
Is the pen durable.
You Only Buy Twice! Ah, sorry, thinking Bond there. Some pens haunt you when they are gone. All the best.
Is it worth buying the pilot?what about build quality and writing experience of the pen?
I love this pen. it is very light. it’s built well and has an excellent nib. It is very sleek. The nib is outstanding. I would go try it somewhere first and make sure it is your thing. I love mine.
I have this pen and I agree with everything HJ says about it! I really like it!
Japanese F nibs are totally different breed.
Truly!
idk if i am weird i am a prn fanatic but the way he described the e95s made me turned on lmao i am weird af
I’ve bought almost all my Japanese pens (save two) directly from Japan. Here in the U.S. the excessive mark-up in pricing is just a total turn-off.
What Japanese website did you use to order the pen? Thanks
I think the reason those are wierd to me its that to me...they look like a ladies finger 😐
That is kind of weird, but I see it. The long nib like a painted nail. I do feel a certain feminine energy with it.
Haha yeah...I think the queen had one of those pens also
