Thanks for showing off this new pen. IMO it is a good idea of Kaweco to bring a piston filler to the market again. Though, I cannot see any justification for the high price. Regards, Patrick
Thanks for watching! I would probably expect the price to come down at some point, presumably once they can translate the piston mechanism to a resin body. That said, I don't see a scenario in which this pen could cost less than $130. (The standard AL Sport is at $90 already in the US, last I checked.) I'll note that the Art Sport started at around $160 when first released and is now at $120 or so.
I have a small collection of AL Sports and I’d love one of these, but I really don’t like the gold clip, nib and trim. When/if they bring out a silver coloured version I’ll definitely buy one.
This new Kaweco fountain pen with piston mechanism is a charming and coherent continuation of the Sport series. The design is an absolute success, but it has one flaw that surprises me. The dimensions of the new Kaweco are identical to those of the regular Sport model, with one exception: the section goes deeper into the cap. On the regular Sport model, it measures 3.7 cm, while on the Sport Piston, it measures 4.3 cm. For this reason, the fountain pen is 6 mm shorter. This inexplicable fact reduces writing comfort, giving the strange impression that something is wrong. That's very unfortunate...
I don't think we know at this point. Supply has been somewhat restricted during this first release, though I think eventually we will see this piston mechanism in other models provided this one sells well.
I agree with others. I would rather have the vintage instead of the newer ones. And the pricing is getting ridiculous with these pens. I never see the pen manufacturers put in maybe an extra nib, instead of ink. You can get ink all day long. Thanks for the video.
I’ve been pining for a piston-filling modern Sport for years. But now that it has belatedly arrived, I’m not overly impressed. The matte finish doesn’t look great to me. I’d have preferred a traditional piston turning knob instead of the blind cap design concealing a captive converter style filler. I don’t like Kaweco’s clips. My favorite Kaweco nibs are the B and BB. The M is the most reliable and safest to buy. And most importantly, Kaweco’s new pricing strategy seems quite out of whack to me. This new pen seems unfairly overpriced for what it offers. I felt even worse about the ridiculously overpriced ebonite Sport that I badly wanted. Need I even say the outrageous sticker price for the Sterling Sport that I still yearn to own someday? Good review! I’d take that vintage piston Sport over the new one, every day of the year. I do own a vintage Dia2. And the modern one. The Dia is the best pen Kaweco ever made.
Delightful review, Joe!
I've a vintage Kaweco Colleg that is a wonderful writer as well.
Hope to see you soon at the Collector's group!

I have seen a vintage Kaweco piston filler called a V16. Hopefully Kaweco will release a few more piston filler models.

Love your vintage Kaweco - very nice!
And it has a gold nib, it is the big difference for me!!!!!!
The vintage Kaweco is beautiful! 😇🩷🙏🙌
where did you buy the vintage Sport?

A thoughtful (and useful) video. Thanks.
Wonderful review!!! Thank you very much. Question, do you know if this pen will be offered in the Brass or the Steel versions?

@@TheGentlemanStationer Thank you for the info. Much appreciated

Agreed. I think they should have a 14k gold nib for the price. It’s hard to justify spending $150-200 on a steel nib.
@@brittanyfreeman9101 Or almost any pen for that matter!
@@brittanyfreeman9101 Yup, for that kind of money, you can get gold nibs from most Japanese brands or even a Lamy 2000 if you look a little.
@@brittanyfreeman9101 I totally agree. I can get a sailor for far less.
It is a lovely pen but the price is way too much, you can get gold nibs in that range.
I want Kaweco Sport with a larger capacity.
very nice.

Someone had a vintage Dia-Style piston filler at pen club yesterday - now that's a re-release I want to see!
the vintage looks better.
Though I like AL- and "normal" Sports, I totally agree. I especially like how the nib is integrated in my vintage model.
