Eat To The Beat. My opinion is it's the finest album Blondie ever made. Blondie, Plastic Letters and Parallel Lines are all brilliant, but this one tops them all. Any album with Accidents Never Happen, Dreaming, Die Young Stay Pretty, this tune and the sublime Victor cannot be beat!! Blondie fans, do you agree?
Bought this album in 1979. This song sent a shiver down my spine first time I played it - still does every time. Awesome. Debbie was born to sing this.
This song doesn't age - I still get chills like when I first heard the song the day "Eat to the Beat" was released in the US. One of the bands best songs.
I am 32. Loved this band since I heard my mom's records of them when I was a toddler. Favourite Blondie song. Debbie's voice sounds so beautiful and angelic.
ok..sat here in my office after work on my own..just watched this..now almost in tears..my first album..and so many great tracks..but 'Shayla'..bloody brilliant..wish I was back in '79 again...
oh my goodness!! such a beautiful track, I've always loved EAT TO THE BEAT!!! I was a 6 year old chap in ABSOLUTE LOVE with Blondie!!! and Debbie Harry!!! Jimmy Destri, Chris Stein, Clem Burke, Frank Infante!!
Over 40 years on and no one will be able to give us what blondie give us.. a proper Band with an incredible front woman that is Mrs Debbie Harry, i just love Shayla one of my all time favourites.
Absolutely. One of my most cherished memories of music and a time when anything seemed possible.Thankyou Debbie,Chris,Clem,Nigel and Frank ..wherever you are.
This 8 track tape got me though EVERY damn visit to the dentist-& if I needed a filling, they couldn't crank this loud enough. I'd keep my mouth clamped shut till they blasted it-I was 10 I think
Oh yeah, the wars, killings, upheaval, fraud, etc were much higher quality then, further, dying or being molested back then was sweeter. Yes sir, best of times.
Those early Blondie albums have amazing "replayability". It's not just 1 or 2 singles -- they're just one good song after another. And they really were pioneers too -- nobody had put the usual pop influences together in the way that they did. It holds up amazingly well over the years.
My favorite album of them, and one of my fav. 30 or 50 albums of all times. Many styles here but a unique sound/production, connecting some 60's sounds with the end of 70's and punk+reggae moods as well. Her voice is at it peek and every musician plainly efficient, plus the song writing...in other words..G-R-E-A-T !
I'm amazed at the overwhelming number of people that have never had the pleasure of listening to this song - they are truly missing out. It's one of my all time favorite tunes from the pop/rock era. I can't figure out why, but it even has the power to bring forth tears to my eyes, and not many songs do that.
This song has been fascinating me from the first time I heard it when I bought an old vinyl copy of Eat To The Beat on a fleamarket in '92. The whole production is so atmospheric and interesting with all the reverb, especially in the intro. One of Blondie's best songs...unfortunately underrated and often missing on most/all of the Greatest Hits- and Best Of-compilations by the band.
The production is so good on this song. I'd say it sounds like it could have been recorded today, but then I can't think of many recent songs that sound this good.
I paid £30 for the video which was a weeks wages and I didn't even have a video player ,my mate on the council estate where I grew up had one and invited me upto watch it ...it was and still is a awsome video album
I've been listneing to this song for neary 30 years now and I still get goosebumps. The voice, the look, the soft guitar picking over the plodding bassline, the silky smooth drumming and the melancholy lyrics create one of the most dreamy and haunting songs ever released,... yet, for blondie, this track is hardly ever featured on any of their 'hits' albums. It's simply stunning..
+Ian Thomas In the latest (three days ago) Rolling Stone list of 100 greatest Rock and Roll drummers, they have him at 61. That is simply nonsense. All one needs to do to see that is totally wrong is watch the official video for "Dreaming", the man's arms and hands are about to fly off.
each song is a classic, and this one particularly. I always liked their hits but it took UA-cam to get me to buy up their albums----better late than never.
A stunningly beautiful woman performs a hauntingly wonderful song. This was the first time I ever saw Debbie Harry.I wish I could remember the tv show?
This song is beautiful! Even the 37 second intro is beautiful. I love that whistle in the background at the start. This song comes from my favourite LP ''Eat To The Beat''.
I worked at Overton Plaza. A girl that worked across the hall from me had blonde hair. Her parents named her Shayla. It's a shame that I never met her folks. It would be a total trip if they were Blondie fans.
Heard this for the first time yesterday, I've woken up craving it cause I couldn't remember the tune. Beautiful song, and as usual Debbie looks amazing..!
Rooster-- thank-you I saw this on one of those late night shows in 1979 brings back those great times when I was young and had alot of fun, still the best song on the album
i've owned Eat to the Beat for some time and it's always been at the bottom of my Blondie album list because i've never really cared for the singles and haven't actually listened to every song on the album. how in the hell did i miss this gem? i think i've got a new song to add to my favorite Blondie songs!!!
It'd be difficult for me to pick her best song, but this would certainly be in contention. Here 1979 cover of "I Feel Love" deserves the attention of those looking for her best voice.
+John Holliday John I have just came from her Donna Summer cover to this one. I love Union City Blues as well. And for drummers past the Keith Moon generation Clem Burke is the shit!!! Wish I looked that cool back then. I was a very fortunate 19 when this song came out. Her cover of I Feel Love is exceptional.
+John Holliday I'd have to agree, hard to pick her "best" song, but this to me is a contender. She really sings sweetly here, and the instrumental arrangement is so atmospheric......
Blondie ..how can you pick a favourite tune impossable...poets problem , scenery. die young , prism , slow motion, shayla, angels on the balcony ....so so many awsome tunes..
By far my favourite Blondie song. It reminds me of when we used to go to my friends in the 80's when we were about 13 and play his older brother's Blondie records and video all the time. I had a Debbie Harry poster on my bedroom door and nobody could replace it.
Thanks for the lyrics. Debbie wrote some beautiful words for Blondie. Also Union City Blues has nice lyrics. She's so underrated, her beauty always got in the way.
So clearly remember reading about all the cool new bands playing at CBGB....and finding that first Blondie album! An amazing string of records....beautiful, powerful, unique. Thanks!
I was always under the impression that this song was about Alien abduction. Some of the lyrics kind of point out the meaning "leave in peace and enter space" , "lost in space and down she came" "suddenly some cosmic energy" ,"Down here we stop to wonder, Cars on the freeway, Bright lights and thunder" Unless I missing the whole point. One of my al time favorite Blondie songs. Also like the Commodore Pet computer in the background acting as a Spectrum Analyzer.
+Francis Galphin According to Chris Stein you're right. I had thought it was about a suicide on the freeway, bright lights were emergency vehicles, until I found that out.
30 years on from first hearing this track I'm still in love with it - becuase it's perfect.... its' got melody and melancholy, but it's got a beat too and you can dance to it. It's a pop masterpiece by an original queen of pop and a intellar band...

yep
Totally agree with you !! I bought this album when it was realised in 79.
Victor is great, so is Shayla. Very diverse an album, eat to the beat.
Many bands would kill to write songs half as good as Blondie's fillers like this one. This song is hauntingly beautiful!
Yes absolutely John!
stu wilks - that's what I was gonna say...always loved this song
This was a filler? 😳 . It’s awesome
@@apatia29 It was considered a filler for their Eat to the Beat album by the public I think.
those fillers are sometimes the best songs on the album
Bought this album in 1979. This song sent a shiver down my spine first time I played it - still does every time. Awesome. Debbie was born to sing this.
Ditto for me on all counts. 👍🙌
This song doesn't age - I still get chills like when I first heard the song the day "Eat to the Beat" was released in the US. One of the bands best songs.
Me too. Right on!
I feel you brother. EPIC DAYZ. I miss them ever so as well. -- LOVE ME SOME BLONDIE. This from a DOLLS,Thunders, Black Flag, Pistols et al funboy.
@Mary kai 🙏😪😁😁❤😪
79 was an awesome year I would go back in a heartbeat! Beautiful song!
My favorite song on the LP ❤
I completely understand and agree!
oh my goodness!! such a beautiful track, I've always loved EAT TO THE BEAT!!! I was a 6 year old chap in ABSOLUTE LOVE with Blondie!!! and Debbie Harry!!! Jimmy Destri, Chris Stein, Clem Burke, Frank Infante!!
And Nigel Harrison on base guitar
Beautiful girl, beautiful voice, beautiful song..and a *great* band!!
Over 40 years on and no one will be able to give us what blondie give us.. a proper Band with an incredible front woman that is Mrs Debbie Harry, i just love Shayla one of my all time favourites.
Glenn Light she's 72 now and still beautiful
72? Fauck me how time passes.... Love Debbie, Chris, Clem and sorry mate, what's 'is naoim...
They were the real deal, that's for sure
You are so right
And she is pitch perfect….all her own voice!
This song blows me f**g aaaawayyyy. Brings back memories from my wild college party days! 😊🎉
Absolutely. One of my most cherished memories of music and a time when anything seemed possible.Thankyou Debbie,Chris,Clem,Nigel and Frank
..wherever you are.
OMG!! My name is Shayla and this is th first time I've ever heard this song! 😂😂. I can't believe I have a song!! 🎉🎊🎆😂😂
perhaps you were named from this song?!!
Same!
Hi Shayla's!! I bet you guys are just as cool as me!! LOL!!
And you have a song by one of the coolest bands ever!
Take it easy you're not the first person to be named after a song
This song, and the rest of the "Eat To The Beat" album was kind of the soundtrack
to the Summer of 1980 for me.I played this all the time back then.
This 8 track tape got me though EVERY damn visit to the dentist-& if I needed a filling, they couldn't crank this loud enough. I'd keep my mouth clamped shut till they blasted it-I was 10 I think
This one's a diamond ! I grew up with all this stuff........ good all years !
one of the most alluring brutally beautiful songs ever
Simara Delilah Rose. Very well said..
By one of the most "alluringly brutally beautiful" singer/artist/ICONS of the 20th century+
Excellent album track. So many amazing songs on it and I forgot about it.
Fabulous, the beauty of the voice and song takes you right back to the days when the world was better, simpler place.
Oh yeah, the wars, killings, upheaval, fraud, etc were much higher quality then, further, dying or being molested back then was sweeter. Yes sir, best of times.
It was indeed, hard, cold but far, far better than the foul stinking society that we now have, that grunts.
Clem the drummer has hardly changed . One of the best drummers ive heard. As for Debbie. A total fantasy of mines during my teenage years..OOft :-P
Managed to catch one of his sticks. Boxing day 79
Eat to the Beat
Parallel Lines
Best of Blondie
Albums should be in every Music Lovers Collection !!!

Talk about a total package. What a singer, what a band!
Debbie has an amazing voice! she is very pretty and awesome!
This is the only pop/rock song in our history that brings me to tears.
Suddenly - I have always loved the cosmetic energy of blondie.
Just the wild background, and wild outfits and the way Hottie Deb are dressed are complete awesome ! Outer edge New Wave Punk ! Extreme !!
Saw them Live 1978 a lifetime away and still the same affect ,so much energy in there sound .
She is the most beautiful woman that I have ever seen.
I've yet to see a negative comment on any debbie harry song, something that amazes me and makes me happy. She's so iconic
When I was growin' up Mum was totally into Blondie...Love this song and video...A timeless classic.
My favorite album of them, and one of my fav. 30 or 50 albums of all times. Wished so many 'Blondie' fans, heard this! Still gets to me after many years. IMHO the best
My Favorite Blondie song!!! Purely beautiful.
David Smith it is
Without a doubt the best song ever written. I adore this song. ❤️
Solid good Blondie. Clear. All lyrics understood. Good song. 🎤🎶

Eat to the Beat ...Fantastic album every song on video and written by the band ...
One of my TOP 10 albums of all time. EAT TO THE BEAT. Full Stop.
It was the first full length video album.
I paid £30 for the video which was a weeks wages and I didn't even have a video player ,my mate on the council estate where I grew up had one and invited me upto watch it ...it was and still is a awsome video album

gorgeous....been in love w them since I was 12 Blondie 4ever XOXOXO
What a so beautiful and unique voice ! My God ! ....
My favourite Blondie song. Isn't it strange that nobody seems to have noticed that Clem Burke was the best drummer in the history of rock music?
+Ian Thomas I have! He gave me his drum sticks at one of their concerts because I kept yelling out his name the entire time!
+stu wilks That's just brilliant, stu! Great to know that perseverance produces the right result!

john binder I agree, he belongs in the top 10 at least!
I melt and cry when I hear this. I love you Debbie.
Beautiful vocals from Debbie! I have to dig my Eat to the Beat album and listen...
There is not a more beautiful song about alienation and alien abduction!
Just brilliant! And Deb's voice is in top form here!
Awesome tune, I can't stop listening.
FANTASTIC! they get better as they age-i love BLONDIE
This has got to be my absolute favorite Blondie song. It's just so mesmerizing.
Ditto for me!
i am free. but life is so cheap. Shayla always has been my fave.
you're my fav too
This song takes me back. When this album came out, I had just installed a new cassette deck in my car and Shayla made it sound great.
Loved her from the first time I heard her sing. Beautiful!!! :)
a haunting and mesmerising song that brings back to my high school days still a classic thanks blondie
Definitely one of the band's hidden gems!
She puts me in a trance with this song.. I may have to agree with those who label this as what may be her best vocals.
each song is a classic, and this one particularly. I always liked their hits but it took UA-cam to get me to buy up their albums----better late than never.
Timeless classic, a song I have played thousands of times since it's telease and I'm completely lost in it again, some cosmic energy, Indeed XX
A stunningly beautiful woman performs a hauntingly wonderful song. This was the first time I ever saw Debbie Harry.I wish I could remember the tv show?
There's that lovely, powerful voice again! So distinctive!
I'm 33 and I never listened to this growing up. So as you can imagine I am asking myself, "where have you been all my life"?
Better late than never
It was an awesome time to be 18 when this song came out
Well for most of it you were not born yet.
Debbie Harry was an outstanding contribution to popular culture!
Beautiful yet haunting vocals from Debbie :) I got this album when it came out when I was in high school.

Best Song by Blondie !!! Love it
I am a huge Blondie fan and I think this was her best vocal performance.
ETTB and PL are just classics! LOVE EM BOTH!

Wowww!!! How I remember this powerful Blondie song when I was only 13 in 1980
It'd be difficult for me to pick her best song, but this would certainly be in contention. Here 1979 cover of "I Feel Love" deserves the attention of those looking for her best voice.

My favorite Blondie song. There are so many to choose from, but this one is special for reasons I don't know. Made live livable, I suppose.
Thanks for the lyrics. Debbie wrote some beautiful words for Blondie. Also Union City Blues has nice lyrics. She's so underrated, her beauty always got in the way.
Love this track ....thanks for posting...
Makes the hairs on the back of my arm stand on end after all these years.
This and "Dreaming" are my Blondie favorites.
That brilliant guitar solo in the middle is just not long enough! But then again good stuff always leave you wanting more!
one of my favorite Blondie songs.
Can't load video sorry jim
Me too Jimbo
Amazing. One of the most moving Blondie songs to date.
Mesmerising song, drumming and singer.
I have been listening to blondie since I was 15 in1979 , and I am still listening
I named my daughter Shayla. I remembered this song from the 80's and knew If ever had a girl this was going to be her name.
aaawwwwwwwwwwww , i just loved this then . every thing , the sound, that high pitched sound ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh . just carrys so much ..................

Just remembered how much I love this song, brilliant voice :-)
Debbie's got such a beautiful voice
lovely song from brilliant album long live blondie
Wonderful album. One of the best ever.
This is just such a great strait-up song. So simple yet so perfect in all the right spots.
Positively haunting song! Maybe her best. And she looks great, even dressed in that light green hefty bag. Love Blondie!
