Hi Andrew, I did the heel -Toe today for the first time! Thanks so much. I started with your toe tap and did that for a month and then started the heel tap for a couple of weeks. And today the Heel toe just came natural. I am really enjoying it. Thanks again.
I've watched so many videos on the boxer skip on youtube for a month. I found this video today and boom! I was finally able to process in my head how the boxer skip works and did them for the first time today. This video is awesome!
To everyone interested in jumping rope & coming across this video, this channel is a gem. Very helpful content which is not made available on other popular channels. Andrew is a great athlete! Big Up to you ☺️
I did my first heel-toe tap today! Took me a few weeks to get a skip on in the first place, then like a month or two with sporadic skipping to do the boxer step. I then did just the boxer step for like 3-4 months as part of boxing training (3x week, up to a total of 15 minutes each session, with the odd cardio day of 30 mins skipping). My thought was to build up my endurance and coordination before trying anything complicated. Today, I thought through your breakdown and was soon flowing! Was able to pick the pace up quite soon too! Thanks for your great video! My advice to people new to it would be: build your endurance and all the small muscle fibres supporting the movements involved and focus on your rhythm, everything else will come!
In this video, I cover a jump rope move that is popular with boxers. It’s called the Heel-Toe. If you have ever watched videos of boxers like Bernard Hopkins and Manny Pacquaio jump rope, you’ll likely have seen them do this move. Heel-toes not only look cool but they are great for improving footwork and coordination. In two previous jump rope tutorial videos, I covered a move called the Rear Toe Tap and the Heel Tap. I’ve provided links to these videos in the description. The reason I mention and refer you to these two videos is because the Heel-Toe is essentially a combination of rear toe taps and heel taps. Basically, you perform a heel tap followed by a rear toe tap, or vice-versa. You are a great teacher, really. I am loving jumping rope but it is a very long learning curve. Sometimes it’s frustrating that my 8 years old girl can pick the rope and do in 3 minutes what it took me loooooong time to get. This is one of the steps. I guess I’ll follow your very wise advice and break down the moves until I am comfortable. I am also having some ankle and knee problem. So, spending a lot of time doing stretch and strengthening exercises for ankle, knees and gluteus medius. I’ll get there! Thanks again.
Francesca, thank you for the lovely message! Oh, I echo your sentiments; I remember the day well when I was taking a walk and I saw three young kids doing jump rope tricks like it was second nature, at which point I was struggling with even basic jumps. Your attitude seems great, so with time and practice, you may be the one amazing your daughter with jump rope tricks :-) Regarding leg pain, did you happen to see this video: ua-cam.com/video/27VUcwZfO5g/v-deo.html
Jump Rope Warriors - The Way of the Jump Rope Yes! I already watched that video, thank you. I am trying to keep proper form, I am being very careful with that. I’m always been very flexible, now with age a little less, but the kind of person that could bend their thumb to the wrist. Sometimes I feel, because of that, that I am more prone to ankle and knee injuries. After many years of no exercise, I have started last August with a small gym with 3 trainers, I do strength train 2 times a week and some boxing once a week. I love the boxing exercise! Too bad I discovered at age 44 but never too late. It was my trainer who put the ropes in my hands and I did so, so badly that I could not even do 3 jumps! Ah, ah, I am better now. I told him that he created a monster! I think it’s the boxing exercise that puts more stress on my knees, wearing a support band on the knee when boxing...and I know a lot is due to my weak core (thank you pregnancies!). Lot of things to fix. But I am very persistent person. Be sure I’ll keep watching your videos for inspiration. Have a great weekend
Boxing is a fantastic form of exercise. That's great you enjoy it so much. That plus strength training sounds like a good way to stay young for life. "I didn't stop playing because I grew old. I grew old because I stopped playing", George Bernard Shaw.
In 10 min, and 3 videos on your chanel, I learned the heel toe I could never find a good tutorial for before + got a sense of your great mindset + enjoyed your music taste haha, 1 more sub! :)
Great Video for this beginner, thank you! In it, you said you’d do another video with more advance heal toe taps. I looked through your videos but didn’t find it. Did I just miss it?
You're truly a warrior! I got seriously motivated by watching this outstanding footwork and wanna practice jump rope as an indoor workout going through Canada's winter. As a beginner though, I recently started to feel some pain in my shin area after bouncing up and down...Is this normal? Thank you so much!

:-) You can do them. The move just takes practice and patience, and good timing and coordination. The shoes aren't necessary though they're a comfortable boxing boot with good support and I enjoy skipping in them from time to time.
