We locals (I'm not from Bali, but Indonesian) are also afraid to get Dengue. Find out which months that most susceptible to get Dengue (mostly rainy season) and buy some insect repellent. Spray your room with insect repellent before you go outside, and use some mosquitos repellent lotion before you sleep. If you don't like the lotion one, you can buy some natural oil like cajuputi (minyak angin), or baby product (minyak telon). If you're living in a villa for a long time, check if they provide you with mosquito net. If they're not, consider to buy one, it's cheap. Also ask if you can burn some mosquito coils in veranda.
She did not look like she had dengue. One typical Symptom is internal bleeding underneath skin. This woman is faking to make this video more sensational. 😅
I work for an airline. I’ve never travelled without insurance. I’ve seen so many problems with people who have been sick, bike accidents, car accidents, infections. Once I saw a woman who broke her back after falling off an elephant, another person lost their eye after zip lining and hit in the face with a branch. Just so you know, medivac back to the USA from Thailand Bali can cost upwards of $500,000 at your expense if you don’t have insurance. That is paid to the doctor, 2 nurses and 2 pilots onboard the aircraft, the fuel and the maintenance of the aircraft.
She's just dramatic Born Indonesian with multiracial multilingual background living around the world all alone since childhood including 8 years Europe 2002/2003-2010, etc. The diets and lifestyle of western world including the mindset and formal education full of lies including drawing Indonesia too small since Mercator projection 1569 shape the weakness of westerners. Natural immunity of westerners are low, some of the lowest in the world. Even Alcohol, meat, etc are weakening your body immune system. I am back on Sumatra the past 5 years after Bali and Jakarta my birth town, I am in the middle of our family thousands of years private lands and naturally I have my natural immune against anything so called dangerous including mosquitoes, even wild snakes and so on are harmlessly tame around me.
Bali is a tropical island. Naturally any diseases related to tropics are common. That why one year travel insurance at least cover $100.000 is a must. Hope you recover well and continue to visit Bali again.
I contracted dengue. I believe it was while cycling around Lombok. Got back to Bali after about a week over there and was woke up in my place around 3am with bad body pains. Figured I might have the flu. Fell back asleep and woke up around 5 in the worst pain I’ve ever been in. Basically rolled around in pain all day. Zero strength. Went to the hospital that night and they told me doing blood work then would be pointless because it was too soon, but the doctor said it was probably dengue. Went back the next night and it was confirmed. At the same time, the pain had almost completely subsided. The doctor told me everything that would happen over the next week almost to a tee. Unbelievable how predictable that virus is. After three days feeling totally fine (maybe a bit tired), I started developing a weird rash all over my arms. Then started getting super tired and nauseous. My girlfriend was prepared for this and she took me to a nearby hospital. I thought I was in there for a night. I was in there for 6 nights. When I was checked out, I still felt woozy for a couple days. Couldn’t get the taste of copper out of my mouth for a good month. Easy to get car sick and air sick running business trips to Java. It rocked me completely to my core for about 2 months. Dengue is not to be played. That was about 8 years ago. I’ll never forget it. And I’ll be sure to always use repellent. It can save your life.
Oh my gosh! Thank you so much for sharing. I hope that you’re feeling fully recovered now. It’s nice that your girlfriend knew and was prepared with what to do. It’s been over three months now, and my hair is still falling out from the dengue.🙃
@@DanieJay this was like 7 years ago or something. I remember being woozy and having a terrible taste in my mouth for at least a month. Is that true about your hair, or are you just saying you’re still stressed over it?
I had pneumonia in Greece, a rare disease in Peru, a high fever with terrible back pain in afghanistan. This was in the 1970's when hospitals in those places were not great, to say the least. I think I was lucky to have survived. I recommend to not travel alone unless it is for work for a company that has an insurance and medical arrangements in advance in case of emergency. Don't depend on being lucky.
Thank you for sharing this. I will be more careful about bug spray when I travel to tropical areas now. I'm sorry there are some judgemental people here saying condescending things when you are just sharing an already painful memory and trying to help others avoid it. I appreciate you! And I'm glad you are feeling better.
Not only spray stuff, you don’t get it the LESSON IS?? BUY TRAVEL INSURANCE!! I’m Vietnamese- our country is not rich & have no PROJECT WELFARE FOR PPL WITHOUT HEALTHCARE INSURANCE. WE TELL EVERYONE TRAVEL HERE SHORT TERM & LONG TERM BUY TRAVEL INSURANCE!! Alots of YOUNGFUL TRAVEL NOT BUY TRAVEL INSURANCE!! Then they rents the motorbike & ride like horrible dumb & get accidents terrible. NO MONEYS!! For humanity right, our hospital have to surgery for them!! But after that - they’re throwing shit & screaming it public hospital is NOISY & CROWD. They’re even begging locals give them moneys to by another TRIPS TO FINISH THEIR TOURIST!! I’m not jokes!! That’s why in recent years ALOTS VIETNAMESE PPL HATE RUSSIAN YOUNGFUL TOURISTS. Their brains is different level I KNOW PPL IS YOUNG & MISTAKES!! A lot of Youngful ppl not think about travel insurance - when they buy ticket - agency ADVICE THEM BUY INSURANCE- but they think it too expensive & wasteful since they’re BIG ASS MUSCLE YOUNGFUL SO WHY WASTE?? THEY MUST BE SILLY OF THEY BUY TRAVEL INSURANCE. What the fk logical?? 😅
I really feel for you! I lived in Bali for 22 years and got dengue fever twice. I was well-settled and I speak fluent Indonesian, but even with these huge advantages, it was absolutely awful and frightening in a way most people will never understand, because of how things are there. So I totally feel for you, and watching this part of your story made me feel like reaching right into my laptop to give you a big hug and a sympathetic shoulder to cry on. You're a strong person. That's obvious. You'll do well wherever you find yourself in the future. The tough times and disappointments and hard decisions you've faced have made you become the wiser and more compassionate person you are now. Nobody can take that away from you. Go forth and flourish! x x o o x x
Thank you so much for your kind words Susi! To be honest, I am happy that it happened. I think that going through that alone made me a stronger person. I prayed so much in the hospital and had to sit with my thoughts. I think the hard things we go through are there to strengthen us in the end. Blessings in disguise. I can’t believe you had it twice! I’ve heard the 2nd time is much worse…so I’m glad you’re okay! I can’t even imagine it being worse than it was! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
@@TG-kp1ph Thank you for the kind words! Yes, so MANY people travel without travel insurance I've come to find out. So I really pray this saves people money and gets them better care if or when something happens. That's so wild that it would have been an 18k flight! I hope you're okay now! The man in blue, no has name starts with an I lol!
@@DanieJay Even if you help 1 person you have done your job but I bet this will make many people more aware & take better precautions when travelling. The flight home for me required some medical attention while in flight so this is the reason why my flight home was so costly. I am feeling much better from that experience, but I am having some long term issues following that condition so it’s been rough. Thanks for letting me know about your Friend in the blue. My friend looks like his twin. I’ve lost contact with him in the last couple of years & as he travels around the world I last heard he was living in Turkey so I wanted to know if he & his family were safe. It’s just a tragedy what’s happening over there. All the best on your travels, & hopefully you get to return to Bali soon. 😊
What I hate about Bali is its hard to walk anywhere unless you are on a beach... So many motorbike close calls, spiders in your accommodation and mosquito Bourne illnesses : (
My tears went down when I know you are alone in the hospital, oh my what a sad moment..here in the Philippines, we treat Dengue with a plant called "tawa-tawa" in visayan language here in Mindanao..and the platelet will return back to normal..Happy to know you're now with your family...Thanks for sharing your valuable videos & educating us new content creators.. God bless You and your family.
I had the same thing a couple of years ago traveling through Asia Pacific and the one thing I always had with me was antibiotics. I’m glad you made it out safe and you’re well…all the best
Fyi you can't fight dengue with antibiotics coz it is a virus. You need to drink lots of water n isotonic water or coconut water. In Malaysia we will take the juice of papaya leaves for three days. This method is even endorsed by our Health Ministry on its website. Just two tablespoons per day. N you need to drink crab soup for a few days to increase your platelet level back to normal. The fever is the most painful but the most critical time is AFTER the fever subsided..that's when the virus is either weakening or getting more violent in which case you will develop bleedings of your internal organs. If you find your nose or gum starting to bleed go to the hospital immediately. The doctors will give plasma transfusion to you. But as I said, the locals will take papaya leaf juice n.crab soup to ensure the platelets increase..the reason for the bleeding is because the platelets have gone down too low. This will be fatal if not treated. Rashes will come out after the fever n if you r not bleeding, the recovery will be for about a week whereby you will still feel lethargic n sore. The virus will forever exist in your liver though after you have had dengue.
Dengue fever is very common in Indonesia and there is a season where the number of cases would rise higher. I once got it too when I was a kid, but it wasn't too bad coz my mom detected the fever pretty quickly and took me to a doctor. I never get dengue ever since and I heard people said once you get it, your body will have some sort of immunity and there is a low chance you might be infected again. But yeah, everywhere you go, no matter what country, there is always a possibility of getting sick or get into qccident, so having travel insurance is a must. I went to Vietnam before the pandemic. I fell down when I got robbed because I was trying to hold on to my backpack. I had to be rushed to hospital afterwards coz I was bleeding quite bad from leg to my chin. Luckily I did buy travel insurance 2 days before I left for Vietnam. That was one time that I got so unlucky during traveling. There is always a misfortune, anytime, anywhere...so everyone take care of yourself well.
Glad it was a happy ending! I almost teared up when you saw your mom. I know that feeling of not seeing family for a long time. Can't wait for more of your videos!
Can't help but notice most people leaving negative, mean comments on this video are men. Colour me surprised that men are dismissing a woman's illness and pain (sarcasm obviously). I'm sorry you went through this - it sounds like a really scary experience. It's admirable that you decided to change your plans based on what was best for you at the time rather than succumbing to sunk cost fallacy and sticking it out for the original two months when you wouldn't have enjoyed the remaining time.
Thank you for your kind words. Dengue fever was the most sick I’ve ever been in my life, and the first time of ever needing to be hospitalized. But thankfully I’m feeling so much better and stronger than before! I absolutely loved the people, culture, and landscape of Bali…and I hope to be back one day.
Hi Danie, so sorry to hear your story. Good that you made it back to your family. DF is common in Indonesia, especially eastern part. But most people survived it. What had happened to you was just unfortunate but I don't think it would happen again when you return. Many more people have enjoyed, stayed, left, and back again. The memory of Bali is not so easily over that you will return someday and be the happiest person.
Yes get insured.. I did but didnt actually use it..on my first longer trip. Through a guide rushing me in India I fell and had torn ligaments ..my trip was really ruined but at least no broken bones. I saw an amazing Indian doctor for 50 gbp inc meds he had me in a hospital bed in his home 3 nurses to give me intravenous as my asthma had worsened and painkillers for leg plus some natural pills.. at least had respite for about 2 weeks with that. I ll never rush again for anyone and look after myself on my trips now although cant afford longterm at present. I also had what vaccinations were appropriate and had them slowly so didnt affect my breathing.. I dont know about dengue guess as malaria there isnt anything much..
Omg I know how you felt. I got dengue in a small city in Nepal, was admitted in a government hospital which was hell. I mean the toilet had syringes and blood and what not just in the bin. The heaven part was the friends/ family I built. They were and are the purest beings. I don't think they realised I was dying inside! It was bad, don't know how I survived because I told them I refuse to be that hospital:p Your parents are amazing, I love your mum! Hope you are so much better, take care
Good insurance for emergencies is so necessary! That said . . . even the best insurance won't make you better faster if you get sick or injured . . . so let's all go for good insurance PLUS staying super healthy PLUS being smart about what risks are out there and how we're going to steer clear of them! :)
Hey, I'm a digital nomad too and I'm looking into spending a month in Bali too. Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm so sorry you got sick - I hope that's all behind you now. Thanks for the tip about getting travel insurance and using bug repellants. I want to mention too that you are very pretty and your voice is so calming. I'm subscribed now!
I'm so sorry this happened to you!! And hope you're recovering more every day. It is SOOOOO important to have travel/health insurance. I broke my leg (badly at the knee) and had to have surgery and stay in a Thai hospital for a week, where they barely spoke English and I had to use a bed pan every day. AND it would have cost me $12,000 US if I didn't have insurance. Also, my recovery took almost 5 months and a LOT of physical therapy (not covered by my insurance). And like you, I was all alone, no family or friends to rely on.
I have also been on vacation to Bali but I really enjoyed an amazing vacation and experience!❤ My advice if you want a vacation to another country you should check your health first and do vaccinations so that your immune system is stronger! from 🇹🇭
Definitely a smart call! I got too relaxed with living in Vietnam for so long with no issues. Unfortunately, you can't get a vaccine for dengue UNTIL you actually get dengue. How crazy is that?! If you a dengue vaccine BEFORE you've gotten dengue, it makes it worse when you actually get it! ahhh!
@@DanieJay Dengue fever can be life-threatening if not treated properly. But actually it kills less people than other diseases including COVID-19. the symptoms are fever more than 39° C for 3 days, strong headache. after that you are back to normal temperature, but you still feel unwell. something wrong inside your body. that's why you need to be hospitalized. so remember to have travel insurance wherever you go. the normal recovery time is 7-10 days start from the first time you get fever. The sooner you are treated, the faster it will heal
Insane prices. How come a much more developed place like Penang Malaysia is far cheaper than Bali. I am still trying to understand what is paradise in Bali.
Dengue fever is a common sickness in tropical country, you guys should have a research about this so you avoid places that have a lot of mosquitos and you can buy some mosquitos repellent in some shop.
I am sorry that you had to suffer and I hope you have completely recovered. For most Westerners, the local diseases one can contract can be alarming. Yes, get medical insurance. But dengue and even the recent Covid, is not the reason to be totally alarmed or even freaked out. But yes, it can be extremely difficult if you're alone. So, it is important I feel to make many local friends if you are planning to stay for a long while. If as a Westerner, you are only mingling with the Western community in S.E. Asia, it may not be the best thing. Of course, do mix with the western community, but do also find ways to mingle with the local community. In times of distress, they can be very helpful. I am in Singapore and yes, dengue is not uncommon because we have mosquitoes here too. But it is not the end of the world and you just need proper medical assistance. A good friend just contracted dengue a few days ago but he recovered 2 days ago. So, I do not know if this helps but living overseas, and in S.E. Asia, is your plan, be open.
Serious question I got told it was the law to have travel insurance to go to bali, as my wife just booked our tripe and I said don't waste money on it, and she said its the law in bali that they don't let you in at immigration unless we produce travel insurance, we both fly end of August and we now both have travel insurance which was $120 each
It was for several months this year. They were asking to see proof of vaccination and insurance with covid cover on arrival. Mad not to have it anyway. Get safetywing, it's cheap and works across several countries
from my understanding and please if im wrong anybody can correct me. there are 4 strains of dengue. if you get bit for the first time by any of these 4 strains you get sick. but after you pass this you are immune from that strain biting you and reinfecting. if you get bit by another strain then the antibodies of the first and 2nd come back thats why subsequent dengue is more serious. but if you get bit by the same strain you are actually immune to that already.
I went Bali for a month, a girl came to see me after a two weeks and she didn’t get insurance and her shoulder got dislocated and it cost1k to get painkillers and someone to pop it back in, always get travel insurance
Had dengue many times when I was living there, many other people I know had it too. Had angkak ( red fermented rice) as home remedy which increases trombosite, so I'd never been hospitalized.
Definitely agree about the Traveler's insurance. I paid out of pocket when I lived in Peru when I got really sick and also when I had to get some meds I ran out of because of customs issues ...
Home sweet home. 💓 I’m from the Bay Area also. But sadly, my parents have both passed away so I can’t go visit them in my childhood home anymore. 😢 Soak up all that love while you can. 💗
Hi. Dengue can only be found in tropical countries including SINGAPORE. Yes Singapore. Dengue fever starts from the mosquitoes called Aedes. These mosquitoes only come out during night fall. Probably ard 5pm - 7pm. Just get yr mosquito repellent and your travel insurance. So sorry that happened to you during Yr stay in Bali. It is just unfortunate. Once you got dengue, you will never get it again as u will be immune to the aedes bite. Some may still get it again. If in bali, try avoiding staying near padi fields. It's more risky. Anyhow, since you are home, have a good one and enjoy!. Life is short!
This is rule No 1.If you don't have travel insurance, you have no business traveling. If you are injured or sick the hospital won't let you leave until you pay no matter what country.
Also, your credit card might include a travel health insurance by default. Some cards include the insurance _even if you haven't purchased the plane tickets with the card_ but recently many issuers changed the policy to only cover if you purchased airfare with them. So be sure to read the fine print and see the perks and limitations of your credit cards.
Very considerate and thoughtful for sharing this. Travel definitely isnt alwasy rainbows & butterflies and its important to show people the reality. SO happy to hear you're ok though!!!!! 💘💝
I live here and have had dengue three times, my sister twice..and a ton of my friends....and we all lived. It's tough for sure, but I really don't see why it's enough to warrant leaving Bali. Every place has their dramas ..but I can't emphasis enough how important it is to prepare mentally and physically for a third world country. We all healed using holistic methods ..and stay strong with a variety of supplements and life style choices. I hope you give it another chance one day...trust me, worse things than that can happen here... anywhere actually.
Dengue is very common in the tropics, it's also not rare in singapore :o, we sometimes have red zones, yellow zones etc in dengue season. hope you're feeling better
All the best! I visit family a lot in Angola/Africa and Malaria is big and very dangerous there, also from mosquitos : TIPS that might help: -Always have mosquito repellent with you (day + night) / they love our extensions aka arms + legs + feets (easier to reach) -Room check up 1 : 2 hours before bedtime spray your entire bedroom with anti mosquito spray and go out to let the product act and dissolve (dont breathe it in please) -Room check up 2 : before bed check underneath bed, in wardroom (these f---- hide well/ I go with a towel and hit various places to make them come out :D ) -Evenings ALWAYS wear long sleeves tshirts + a white legging (black attracts mosquitos) + socks (even with sandals yes) Yes you might not look as fancy but if you are sitting on a terrace for hours at night this can save your life (ok if you are going out I understand then please mosquito spray) -Mosquito net -Sleep with leggings + socks! -Have a fan directed towards you, mosquitos are light and can't fly against the wind -Either malaria medication prior to the trip (Im not a fan) or post Malaria medication afterwards, cary with you the next 6 month (malaria can come out various month afterwards) Mosquitos are the 1st death reason in the world, Malaria and other mosquito led diseases kills hundred of thousands per year, just be careful and aware. Enjoy your trips!!
How do you protect the face? I imagine to be mosquito sprays to be incredibly irritating on facial skin and you cannot really spray it near your eyes/mouth.
I'm just going to put it here for everyone. If you're on any tropical country, you'll likely get dengue there. If so, it's best to go to hospital. There's a high chance that you will stay there for sometime so be aware of that. Locals know about Dengue and they know that they treat this seriously by going into hospital. But good thing is, once you done with the ordeal, you will be immune to dengue for the rest of your life. This disease has medium chance of lethality if untreated after long periods of time (high chance if you're not treated by any means) but if you're getting treatment, it would be as low as normal fever. But the discomfort from this is going to be a bit miserable (You will live, but few days of suffering and discomfort).
Liked how you described everything in a very calm down and positive way and I agree I liked that you showed ups and downs. Your video, saying goodbyes made me have some regrets that I didn't record emotional moments when I was traveling in turkey because I was amazed by the people I met and I wish I recorded more. Thank you for giving me the inspiration! And I liked how your Mom greeted you, it was soooo sweet! My parents hate when I travel.
Aww, your comment made my DAY! Thank you for your kind words. Yeah, honestly I love to record my last day in a place...it's always more special that way. ANNND it forces you to finally record lol
Always get travel insurance! However, Safety Wing has restrictions for older travellers and can get very expensive, so people should shop around. I personally carry Squaremouth or Nationwide. ANYWAY, I was thinking of moving to Ubud a couple years ago - until I ran into the Bali medical reality - especially in Ubud! NOT a good place to get sick! Glad you pulled through and best of luck on your future travels.
I spent a full 6 months all over Bali and never got sick once. Thailand too with one exception: a Chinese owned hotel breakfast buffet. I'd recommend clean water and electrolytes if you get sick. I seriously would have died if I didn't know to get electrolyte packets to mix with water. Now that you got Dengue once you qualify for the Dengue vaccine, if you dare.
Dengue is pain BUT IS TEMPORARY. Nothing to worry about at your young age. I got it 3 times in my life and i was between 6-10 years old. No medicine just walk on the beach swim , local tea, cream and and it pass after 1 week or so
I’m planning to be in Bali this winter and I’m very grateful for your sharing of your not so great travel experience. Had no idea that DF could be so brutal
Yes, it hit me harder than most I think. I wonder if it was actually my second time getting it as I lived in Vietnam for a long time prior. Just wear bug repellent and get travel insurance and you'll be fine! ❤️
I a'm so deeply sorry to hear about your last days there...however, this click bait title is not fair to the people of bali who depend on tourist. You got a virus and that's not cool, but your title makes it sounds like it's a warning to tourists. To be that seems unfair to the good people there. Perhaps say...I'm leaving bali, I got sick. BEEWARE OF THIS is pure click bait IMHO
Not a big deal love. Whole family’s had dengue in the 10 years we’ve been here. My youngest didn’t even cry like you. Maybe best you go home sweetheart
If you were here in the Philippines, you can ask your neighbors to accompany you as your watcher in the hospital. They would do that with two open arms. Even nurses would take care of you so much if they knew you're alone.
You can catch mosquito borne diseases like malaria & dengue in many parts of South East Asia, its an issue even in Singapore. Always travel with insurance, you never know what can happen. You can lose money, gear, fall sick , get robbed and etc. Bali is relatively safe but bad things can still happen. Stay safe!
Qdenga is an approved Dengue Fever vaccine in Indonesia (and the EU) for use in individuals aged 6 to 45. This is a newer vaccine that doesn't require a prior infection in order to receive the jab.
Dengue is endemic in tropical areas. Even malaysia has dengue. For some it is fatal. Just avoid places with trash and swimming pools. If there is running water, no issue. The mosquitoes breed in clear clean water like swimming pools with no fish. Trash with plastics and old tires and tin cans must be avoided.
@@DanieJay no problem. A vlogger therapist nomad was having the same issue. Also in bali. Because the villas there have swimming pools and potted plants. After rain, the potted plants accumulate water. There is a chemical called abate which we use in malaysia. It is diluted in the water. Of course fogging method is used too. The 3rd method is biological, we have released another species of mosquitoes. When it mates with the aedes mosquitoes, somehow the larvae does not grow..cannot remember the test result. Whether effective or not, still studying it.
Please anytime you leave the country even if for a short time GET TRAVEL INSURANCE that includes medical. You may think you don’t need it , but I’ve seen so many vacations ruined. Especially if you’re a traveling digital nomad 😅 it’s one of the most important things you can bring.
ATTENTION !! , The first thing you need to do is drink water as much as you can , after pee drink water again and again and get some sleep and rest , drinking water is very important ! Seriously !
BEWARE OF MOSQUITOS These travel vids never talk about the insects, rodents etc. That can be a very serious problem especially in these tropical areas. This Dengue fever can be devastating with lasting effects. I will now take Bali off my travel list!
Yep even in Costa Rica, I had dengue too few times, I know how you feel but dengue may be a risk in every tropical country! I am happy you are know feeling better, may sure to take care next time.
Oh i'm so sorry to hear you got it too! Yes, it definitely won't keep me from going back to Bali. I just wanted to get my health back in order with family around. ❤
Feel you!🙏😞 I live in Bali… had it twice 🤦🏻♂️ literally thought was going to die! Second time worse! Was/am all by myself, well with my dogs. Didn’t eat both times for over a week. Had to be in a dark room. Back had weird rash all over and body in so much pain! Never want to get that again!
Dengue is a constant threat in Singapore too, but if you're hygienic and eat in hygienic places and apply mosquito repellent when you're supposed to, you'll be fine. 36 years here, nothing's happened so far. Touch wood.
Can’t blame you! Just had a similar experience in Cancun.. it was amazing and I could’ve have spent much more time there but due to unforeseen circumstances I had to get out of there
I did and I could have stayed. After being so sick and in the hospital, I just wanted to be with family for a bit and fully recoup. I hope to be back in Bali one day!
Dengue is not that serious most of the time. Everyone in India has had it at least once and often it goes undetected. My husband has had dengue twice within a few months last year. Luckily not an hemorragic form of the desease... Dengue is morning mosquitoes. Yes in tropical countries you do have to really avoid certain hours next to plants in parks and avoid wearing dark clothes that attract mosquitoes. And you do definitely need a medical insurance. The bill can come upto thousands of dollars for 5 days of hospitalization.
Girl, I feel you! I got the Denga when I was in Bali in May 2022. I was literally dying. 7 days in hell and 5 of them were in Bali Royal Hospital. I remember I couldnt sleep for 7 days because of my headache and i developed insomnia. A depression kicked in and I told the doctor I want to die and asked him to give me something that will put me down out of my misery. Day 8th I was starting to feeling better than ever. Keep in mind that you can catch Denga not only from mosquitoes, but you can get just like me. I was at Tukad Cepung waterfall and fall and hit my ancle and the wound got infected and thats what caused my Denga to develop. But still Bali is one of the greatest places on earth.
Sorry to hear about your experience that is nothing to take lightly. Glad to hear you're ok. But I'm confused, you say a few times in your vid that you knew no one, were alone, in the hospital, scared. Where were those all those "amazing friends" you talked about?
Hey there! I've had a few comments asking this. Several people offered to come visit, but i'd only known them a few weeks, was in a hospital at least a two-hour roundtrip taxi ride away, and could barely talk. So I didn't feel comfortable having people come if that makes sense. Sue texted me every day with lovely hampster gifs and came to see me as soon as I was out. ❤
Denge is everywhere in that attitude, its down in the Caribbean and Riviera Maya too, any hot and humid place will be a risk ... one of my friends in Playa del Carmen got it recently and half of her hair fell off
I’m happy for her get recovery & healthy, no big damage or bad accidents happen. YOU CAN BUY LUXURY BAGS & SHOES - please don’t cut cost to buy TRAVEL INSURANCE!! I can use cheap clothes, cut cost of alots stuff but NEVER CUT OFF TRAVEL INSURANCE!!
Hey guys FYI, theres a subscription healthcare called Workfit that charges only 50k monthly and members get 25% off total medical bill at a wide clinic network upon every visit. They even cover dental, physiotherapy and outpatiet care. Whats even more amazing is it is unlimited.
ah man you are the best content creator helper outer, that surfs as well. A huge plus all the the afrosurf people. it is most important that you get better and healthy so you can continue to surf and shred waves. get better and be the incredible influencer you are. thanks
Been in/out of Bali often over the past decade: was last there just before the Pandemic kicked off. I decided to go full on with that Deep forest Deet green bug spray despite not being healthy to put on your skin apparently. The local ones stopped working for me. I've always been concerned about dengue fever having seen others who suffered badly from it but touch wood I avoided getting bitten to death this time.
Oh . . . I just remembered something else! There are things that make you "smell" less appealing to mosquitoes and less likely to get bit. There really are. This isn't just rumours and myth. Some things you can take or eat, do tend to throw those bugs off their game when they're looking for tasty blood to suck! Some that have been found useful include: B vitamins, especially B6; garlic, onions, and their cousins; various unusually bitter plants, herbs, greens; and others I can't recall off the top of my head that you can search out info for.
I really appreciated this video so genuine & wholesome..... Sorry you got sick babe..... Ijust got to bally & got sick already they say its bali belly lol. But am trying to see if i am a good fit for bali not the other way around 😅😊😊
I had Dengue fever , twice , yes twice in 2 yrs , its a common sickness in tropical countries … you just need to rest a lot a lot and get yourself heavily hydrated and take pain killer but never and not ibuprofen.Always wear mosquito repellent to protect yourself when you visit these equatorial countries.
I feel your pain. Im in the United. I can hardly walk on my left leg and the doctor here gave me pain medication and muscle relaxers. They didn't diagnose the problem. I'm frustrated by the incompetent doctors that don't use science as diagnoses.
I got dengue/or most probably chichungunya in May2022 , paralysed with pain for 2 weeks. My skin turned brown from internal bleeding, lost appetite, pain in my feet excruciating, still suffering symptoms and chronic fatigue 11 months later.
I think it's so important to show both the ups and downs of the digital nomad life. I hope this video was helpful to you in some way. Be sure to follow along on IG as well instagram.com/heydaniejay + grab my FREE Go-Viral Video Guidebook here: heydaniejay.com/goviral

I have heard tell of Bali being really dirty. And, Dengue fever is a real threat over there, and in all places with mosquitoes.
Where do your folks live, please? I like that they have a pool.
awesome, video, hope you feel better and are well healed from this experience!
If dengue comes from mosquitos then most Americans have denigue because we all travel to Cancun and Mexico and the Bahamas etc. Mosquitos everywhere.

@@alexbaum2204 i got dangeu or chinkaguna ..took me 1.5 years to recover
Thank you for the kind words Carrie! Yes, feeling much better now :)
Great comment & I agree. ☝️

22 years.. you are indonesian 👏🏻👏🏻
Is there a good time to travel so that you don’t get those things ?
What I hate about Bali is its hard to walk anywhere unless you are on a beach... So many motorbike close calls, spiders in your accommodation and mosquito Bourne illnesses : (

My tears went down when I know you are alone in the hospital, oh my what a sad moment..here in the Philippines, we treat Dengue with a plant called "tawa-tawa" in visayan language here in Mindanao..and the platelet will return back to normal..Happy to know you're now with your family...Thanks for sharing your valuable videos & educating us new content creators.. God bless You and your family.
Bisaya people are the best. Salamat po
There are 4 different strains of dangeu .. you are only immune to one at the moment

Yes, I definitely want to return again soon. I just pray I don't get bit again! 🙏🏼🙏🏼❤
I’ve getting period emotions and got so emotional when you reunited w your mom I’m literally sobbing
It was bad, don't know how I survived because I told them I refuse to be that hospital:p

Good insurance for emergencies is so necessary! And like you, I was all alone, no family or friends to rely on.

My advice if you want a vacation to another country you should check your health first and do vaccinations so that your immune system is stronger! from 🇹🇭
Definitely a smart call! I got too relaxed with living in Vietnam for so long with no issues. Unfortunately, you can't get a vaccine for dengue UNTIL you actually get dengue. How crazy is that?! If you a dengue vaccine BEFORE you've gotten dengue, it makes it worse when you actually get it! ahhh!
There is no vaccination against dengue and no proof that vaccinations makes your immune system stronger.

the symptoms are fever more than 39° C for 3 days, strong headache. after that you are back to normal temperature, but you still feel unwell. something wrong inside your body. that's why you need to be hospitalized. so remember to have travel insurance wherever you go.
the normal recovery time is 7-10 days start from the first time you get fever. The sooner you are treated, the faster it will heal

Have you gone back to Bali since? Just curious, why weren't your friends with you to keep you company @least when you were sick?
Serious question I got told it was the law to have travel insurance to go to bali, as my wife just booked our tripe and I said don't waste money on it, and she said its the law in bali that they don't let you in at immigration unless we produce travel insurance, we both fly end of August and we now both have travel insurance which was $120 each
Hmm, I am not sure about that. Better to have it for sure though!
Yess .. thats what happens they say ..i got dangeu and took me 1.5 years to recover
Hi Erica. so you never had any symptoms when eating this rice? Who had told you about it?

This is rule
No 1.If you don't have travel insurance, you have no business traveling.
Great tip! Thank you!
Very considerate and thoughtful for sharing this. Travel definitely isnt alwasy rainbows & butterflies and its important to show people the reality. SO happy to hear you're ok though!!!!! 💘💝
Your mom is adorable! I hope you're feeling better soon!
She's the best. ❤
So so glad you're okay 💛
Thanks Katie! So happy to be back at it! ❤❤❤❤❤

Dengue is pretty common in Brasil, growing up there as a kid me and my friend all go it.. keep the good vides Bali is paradise 🥰
All the best! I visit family a lot in Angola/Africa and Malaria is big and very dangerous there, also from mosquitos :
TIPS that might help:
-Always have mosquito repellent with you (day + night) / they love our extensions aka arms + legs + feets (easier to reach)
-Room check up 1 : 2 hours before bedtime spray your entire bedroom with anti mosquito spray and go out to let the product act and dissolve (dont breathe it in please)
-Room check up 2 : before bed check underneath bed, in wardroom (these f---- hide well/ I go with a towel and hit various places to make them come out :D )
-Evenings ALWAYS wear long sleeves tshirts + a white legging (black attracts mosquitos) + socks (even with sandals yes) Yes you might not look as fancy but if you are sitting on a terrace for hours at night this can save your life (ok if you are going out I understand then please mosquito spray)
-Mosquito net
-Sleep with leggings + socks!
-Have a fan directed towards you, mosquitos are light and can't fly against the wind
-Either malaria medication prior to the trip (Im not a fan) or post Malaria medication afterwards, cary with you the next 6 month (malaria can come out various month afterwards)
Mosquitos are the 1st death reason in the world, Malaria and other mosquito led diseases kills hundred of thousands per year, just be careful and aware. Enjoy your trips!!
How do you protect the face? I imagine to be mosquito sprays to be incredibly irritating on facial skin and you cannot really spray it near your eyes/mouth.
Bali looked so beautiful!!! So glad your doing better and amazing vlog!!
Very helpful video- I'll do some reading about dengue fever before making firm plans about Bali. I hope you have no residual symptoms and all is well!
Hope you feel better! Dengue is no joke but hey, you made it in one piece!
i made ittttt!!! thanks, Joseph!
Do we have it in America? Is it worse than Lymes disease?

I hope you’re feeling better now !!
Google Dengvaxia
Dengue is pain BUT IS TEMPORARY. Nothing to worry about at your young age. I got it 3 times in my life and i was between 6-10 years old. No medicine just walk on the beach swim , local tea, cream and and it pass after 1 week or so
Glad you are feeling better!

If you were here in the Philippines, you can ask your neighbors to accompany you as your watcher in the hospital. They would do that with two open arms. Even nurses would take care of you so much if they knew you're alone.
Love you! Glad you are home and can begin to settle. Look forward in seeing the new videos. However, I did enjoy watching your travels.
Thank you so much, Ann! I will be traveling again in just a few months. Once i feel strong, i'll be back on the road! ❤️❤️
Thank you for the tips! Yes, still water is dangerous!
Fun fact : dengue mosquito loves clean water
Can I ask why you wouldn’t have travel insurance when it costs so little money ?
Please anytime you leave the country even if for a short time GET TRAVEL INSURANCE that includes medical. You may think you don’t need it , but I’ve seen so many vacations ruined. Especially if you’re a traveling digital nomad 😅 it’s one of the most important things you can bring.
ATTENTION !! , The first thing you need to do is drink water as much as you can , after pee drink water again and again and get some sleep and rest , drinking water is very important ! Seriously !
Dengue is awful 😞 where I live it’s also very common. Glad you’re feeling better now!
BEWARE OF MOSQUITOS
These travel vids never talk about the insects, rodents etc.
@Sheila Roninson I never ever thought about it.
Oh my gosh I can’t imagine getting it a second time! I’m so glad your okay!!!!!
Love your vibe! Subd ❤
Dengue is a constant threat in Singapore too, but if you're hygienic and eat in hygienic places and apply mosquito repellent when you're supposed to, you'll be fine. 36 years here, nothing's happened so far. Touch wood.
Can’t blame you! Just had a similar experience in Cancun.. it was amazing and I could’ve have spent much more time there but due to unforeseen circumstances I had to get out of there
I'm so sorry to hear it! I hope you're feeling better!
I dont understand why you left? You got well, right?
Denge is everywhere in that attitude, its down in the Caribbean and Riviera Maya too, any hot and humid place will be a risk ... one of my friends in Playa del Carmen got it recently and half of her hair fell off
And what was the cost for treatment ?????
I’m happy for her get recovery & healthy, no big damage or bad accidents happen.
YOU CAN BUY LUXURY BAGS & SHOES - please don’t cut cost to buy TRAVEL INSURANCE!!
I can use cheap clothes, cut cost of alots stuff but NEVER CUT OFF TRAVEL INSURANCE!!
When mom 👏 clapped her 🙌🏽 hands! Absolutely nothing beats a loving mommy!!!
This is true! She is my fav
Hey guys FYI, theres a subscription healthcare called Workfit that charges only 50k monthly and members get 25% off total medical bill at a wide clinic network upon every visit. They even cover dental, physiotherapy and outpatiet care. Whats even more amazing is it is unlimited.
It is Rupiah (Indonesian currency) and NOT Rupee (Indian Currency). Bali is in Indonesia.
ah man you are the best content creator helper outer, that surfs as well. A huge plus all the the afrosurf people. it is most important that you get better and healthy so you can continue to surf and shred waves. get better and be the incredible influencer you are. thanks
To be honest I didnt know what that was thanks for educating me on that!
There are some good natural repellents online as well! But yeah, DEET is definitely helpful at keeping them away!!
Oh . .
I love how your mum got out of the car jumping around!
She is the best!
All you have to do is stay hydrated and dengue will pass. People don’t die from dengue
First infection is okay. The problem is with the second infection that it can become really dangerous.
Wonderful Journey, Nice To See You Feeling Better.
New Sub.
✌
Thanks so much for watching ❤
