  • These push button start cars have smart key fobs that try to communicate with the car, even when the car is parked. This can drain the battery faster. It is a good idea that once inside the house, to keep the key fob as farther away as possible from the car/garage, to prevent the key to communicate with the car. May as well keep the key fob inside a metal jar or wrapped in aluminum foil inside the house, as the metal cuts the communication between the fob and the car. www.foxnews.co...

      Indeed- I recommend, when arriving at home, to keep these fobs in a place at home as far as possible from the car, to prevent them from trying to 'communicate' with the car (even when the car is parked). I also keep my fobs in a thick metal can at home, to make a 'shield' around the fob - for the same reason

  • @Pkilla80
    @Pkilla80 4 роки тому +2

    I cleaned out my car the other day and parked it in the garage. Left the key fob in there for about a week and now it's got a low battery It's a 2018. So it's definitely true leave your key fob far away from your car when you're not in it.

    • @Peppermint1

      Thks for the feedback. I also keep the keys inside a thick metal jar (or box), that will shield the communication

    • @Peppermint1
      @Peppermint1  5 років тому +2

      @@MC90s Well, $35 is quite some money. But hang on, we just blew a tire and bend a 17" genuine Sonata wheel (thanks for the potholes in Montreal), went to Hyundai for a quote: $550 for the wheel alone! (that's canadian dollars, so about $400 USD). Didn't expect such prices at Hyundai. Got a new tire somewhere else and the wheel straightened at a local shop.

    Btw if your key fob dies and the car thinks the key is not there, the engine will not start (says key is missing) - an *emergency override* is to flip open the center console, insert the key fob upside down into the little slot, & push down until it clicks into place. The car will read your key even when the battery is low. Then you can start the engine! 👍🏼

      Good tip however that applies for models prior to 2013-2014. My 2015 with start button no longer has that slot inside the center console. To start it we have to push the start button with the fob itself

    Mein Hyundai meldete: "Fernbedienung zu schwach". Als Elektro-Ing. maß ich die Spannung ohne Belastung: 3,05 V. Mit einem Lastwiderstand von 150 Ohm war die Spannung nur noch 2,30 V. Mein Fazit bei etlichen, neuen 2023-Knopfzellen: Mit 150 Ohm Belastung müssen die alle noch mehr als 2,80 V anzeigen, dann sind die Batterien gut!
    My Hyundai reported: "Remote control too weak". As an electrical engineer I measured the voltage without load: 3.05 V. With a load resistance of 150 ohms, the voltage was only 2.30 V. My conclusion with a number of new 2023 button cells: With a load of 150 ohms, they all have to show more than 2.80 V, then the batteries are good!

    • @Peppermint1

      Try pushing the button with something sharp that can fully depress it. The small button has to 'sink' in order to unlock the key, pushing with your fingernail may not be enough. It is all mechanical, I don't think the small button can get 'broken', just needs be pushed down all the way

    • @Peppermint1

      Remove the key, then try first to push down on the small button with a pin, it may get stuck, see if it pop back up. This button has a tiny spring inside. Then slide the key inside and force it by pressing the fob against a table. May also try splitting the fob and see if the button moves freely on its spring - careful not to let the spring jump from there
