Anna Wintour is responsible for the celebrification of both Vogue and the Met Gala. She was responsible for the big push to have celebrities rather than models on the cover of Vogue and I think that decision has had a lasting effect of less creative and exciting cover shoots and fashion editorials which has spilled over onto the met gala. I think the fact that so many celebrities don’t even follow the theme and there are so many influencers and Kardashians invited has made it feel cheapened and less of a fashion event and just another red carpet.

Anna Wintour is ruining it not the celebs. This event is supposed to be an exclusive event for A listers and the best of the best. Now the Met gala is trying to stay relevant and invites anyone that’s trending at the moment.

They have definitely gotten more lenient about the guest list - but maybe it's a good thing because it gets everyone talking??

Her absurd strategy more recently is to consciously opt for "representation" over merit.
It's biliously in line with Biden's America! 🤮

Agree. Inviting trending tik tokkers and youtubers that have not done anything IN the fashion industry cheapened it. Inviting the kardashians year after year is ridiculous also.

YES!! Celebrities have indeed ruined The Met Gala. Most are dressed in couture they don't understand or have reverence for. The attendees are there because they are popular for the moment. It shows. It is what it is. (Shoulder shrug)

It should be for fashion professionals, journalists, seamstress etc sponsored by the designers and donors.
Celebrate the people that make the fashion industry, not the people who buy its clothes.

Both comments are very fair! In an ideal world we would have a mix of both - celebrities to bring the publicity and income and also the fashion professionals to be able to admire their work!

for me, the Kardashian ruined completely the theme and the elegance of this night! Not only them...there's a few name that pop up in my mind , but them are the first!Blake Lively nailed as always the theme and her gorgeous dress and presence is what the MET Gala represent! off course is only my opinion....

Anna Wintour is ruining the Met Gala, the same way she is ruining Vogue for quite some time, she is the definition of a person who cant see she has done her time and keep grasping at anything she can to stay somehow relevant, i mean just see with what she replaced Grace Coddington just to please GenZ...

To only raise 17 million when your invitees are collectively worth billions is not an accomplishment for the “most visible charity event in the world”

  • @1Skorpia

Its WHO they invited. That ruined it. Social media especially. Tik tokkers ..really? What have they accomplished. Invite the designers . The backbone of the fashion industry. I was disgusted with who was invited. Most didnt even follow the theme. They also need to stop inviting the kardashians.
