What you find with expired kevlar is the edges of the panels begin to un ravel. However that's a result of actual use and not sitting on a shelf...in reality you loose around an inch of protection around the edge of the panels when they have had hard use. Not really a problem in the long run lol. As for level 3A, it means its rated to stop pistol rounds fired from longer barrelled smg's wich generate greater velocities and come in 3's lol. Good video mate
A lot of people must be wising up because those stab vests are getting harder and harder to come by. Any size over medium seems to be sold out. I'm an extra large and couldn't find a single vest. Had to buy a new, cheap level 1 vest then get the level 2 panels separate to reinforce it.
The US ECH’s use of thermoplastics is very effective from what I know, they’re rated to stop a 7.62x39 at 100 yards but I’ve seen other people have them stop a .308 at 100 yards/meters. I own two myself and they are very comfortable and light if you follow the instructions on how to wear it (which can be found in a video link on the ECH Wikipedia page) They are about $1000 USD brand new last time I checked but if you live in America you can buy surplus ones (from my experience they’re usually surplus navy or USMC ones) at military surplus stores for as low as $25-30 USD for worn ones depending on the features (or lack thereof) and ~$150 for better and newer condition ones. However there is the issue of damaged trims, which is common in the cheap surplus ones and a big part of why they’re surpluses. If the trim is damaged by military standards it is unsafe, they are still most definitely serviceable but there is a risk of the helmet not carrying the bullet up and out the other end, even then however, it won’t often go through, it’ll likely only bulge on the inside Regardless they should be able to hold up to 3A level pistol rounds and whatnot even with a damaged trim Some have holes on them which I have found useful for mounting face shields and neck protectors on them (despite it being rimless, some shields like the Paulson FF-6 can be mounted with some adjustment on the standard ones) there are also high cut models that are likewise compatible with shields and there is a NVG Mount that you can get for both of them. Kevlar helmets are effective but if you’re interested in something more then I’d suggest checking out a surplus ECH, they can be found on eBay sometimes too however the wear on them is something that can be easily hidden by some electrical tape or a helmet cover so be mindful of that. I’m not an expert and this is just going off of what I know and the versions I own but if this video sparked anybody’s interest in them I hope this helps out some
I can't see how kevlar can wear out unless it's been washed numerous times or someone has actually stabbed in to it? It's just material like any other garment. So real world we are talking about washing, how often would the police wash a vest like that? Never.
The flexible panels apparently degrade after lots of flexing. Mostly UV to the panel damages it, not a problem when it's in the liner or sweat/water damage, again most modern kevlar panels are sealed in plastic bags to prevent water from damaging them.
From everything I've heard or read, Kevlar can degrade over time, generally from moisture/humidity exposure and UV exposure. Could all be BS though, never tested it myself or anything.
Well modern kevlar panels tend to sealed in plastic bags, so no risk of water damage. If it's in it's bag in it's carrier there's very little risk of UV damage either.
It isn't that big of an issue. Old police vests are often scrapped which are used daily and they still are just as protective as when they were new. Plenty of youtube videos online showing that. Just avoid bending your vest a lot (as in like 90 degrees to in half.
Would you be interested in a swedish gas mask? I have come across a number of ’skyddsmask 51’. I’m also interested if the filter has any asbestos in it so I can send you an extra filter if you want
I don't accept items sent in but thanks anyway, it's the Swedish M9 copy the filter may contain asbestos as the original M9 filter had asbestos in, you could use Finnish 60mm filters with it or a 60-40mm converter.
I own a level 3A second chance bullet resistant vest and a PASGT helmet level 3. I also own an old steel British turtle shell helmet, it has an odd face shield but it works, I'm just not sure if it will stop any sort of bullet.
It’s better to buy protective items from a trusted companies in America, since sadly most protective stuff is made in a prison system in the US. Meaning we make prisoners do our work.
@@colinboyd9121 I tried on my 3 quarter motorcycle helmet with my TF-1 on it fits pretty well. But it'll be very uncomfortable. Not sure about full face helmets though...
Hey i was just wondering if i should be looking for a kevlar or stab proof vest, i live in Australia so i doubt shrapnel or bullets will be a problem, and with the helmets I'd like to know what i should look for, i already have a south African riot helmet but it's pretty beat up, thank you
Well most modern police vests are combination vests which protect from both, but if you can only get a specific vest get the stab vest, good stab vests also stop bird shot and pistol rounds.
i got a level 3 of ebay ages ago the panel has this weird square texture all over say level NIJ 3a + HOSDB, KR2, SP1 on the back of the panel no idea what it means
Weaponsandstuff93 ohh nice so it's not too bad a vest then got it for like 15 quid on ebay 2 years ago no dates on the panels tho so no idea how fresh they are
the edges do feel softer than the main body but i think the panel has a thinner perimeter as its very thick and stiff on most of the main body of it but about an inch around the whole of the panel is more flexible but it doesnt feel like its coming apart hard to tell when its in a sealed bag
What about a helmet, used in mountain climbing. It is strong enough to save you from falling rocks on your head. I would not want to wear military or police helmet in any disorder situation. You might become a target for both sides.
@@Weaponsandstuff93 thank you for replying, and also for the great content on your channel. I am a new follower. I guess you know what brought me here, heheh.
Hello, i just wanted to ask something. So i have a TF-1 gas mask (i wish i could get a original GP-5 gas mask but i couldn't get one either from Amazon or eBay. I think eBay only has PayPal paying option and PayPal is removed from Turkey, and Amazon had a location problem or something.) and on the plastic of the TF-1, there are yellow markings on it. They are like yellow circles. I don't know the reason why, but i thought you could have some answers to my problem. You're doing a good job on your channel, i like your vids :)
He's exaggerating quite a bit, I have lived in London for 26 years, have never seen/heard a stabbing mugging shooting anything like that, if you walked down the street in a Kevlar vest everyone would think you're mad and a bit weird, it's really not needed.
The thumbnail is great

Cheers, personally I'd just go for 3A over 2 if I could manage to find the stuff easily because of the better protection chance.

That's still one way of doing it at least but I've been advising people on here to get them if they are concerned about safety.
You can make your own out of riveted mail
Even in your surplus shops? One near me has loads of large x large

Assuming that the gas mask and the Riot helmet fits, sure. That's how riot police wear them.
