Vielen Dank!
This choral cantata was composed 1599 by Philipp Nicolai. At that time his church congregation and city of Unna ( Westphalia) was stricken with pestilence.
Absolutely wonderful and so informative of the poetic and musical inner workings of this amazing cantata. Thank you so much! I will never listen again to this piece of music in the same way. Weeping as I write this.
I wonder if this choir always takes a whole rehearsal to delve this deeply into all of the pieces they perform? I wish mine did. I have such an appreciation for how these gentlemen provide a detailed interpretation of the text and an extremely in-depth analysis of the music.
„Zion hört die Wächter singen“… Wow! I felt so excited when I heard the explanation of this cantata! I learned to play piano (and it helped me for my two years of German course) with specifically that part, and my heart bounced when I heard it being played in there. WOW! Sounds so wonderful! I couldn’t help singing along with the crowd. Can’t wait to listen for the full cantata! ❤️
I want to thank jsbachfoundation for this excellent workshop. „Wachet auf ruft uns die Stimme“ is my favorite Cantata. As a boy who grew up in the choir of the Aachener Dom, this is part of my heritage. I appreciate the detailed explanations for both, the musical as well as the religious elements. And yes, we need to wake up. Yesterday, presumably a Russian rocket killed 50 life’s in a Ukrainian village. Today the Hamaz attacks Israel and again, innocent people dye. We all need to wake up. We are approaching a dead end.
What are you talking about son? These two Doctors are some of the most knowledgeable and down to earth folks I’ve ever seen, and they have graciously made this beautiful lecture available to all of us, even with English subtitles. And you have the nerve of calling them showoffs?!?!?! That’s the best you could muster? 🙄🙄🙄
@@JB-cp3bh Yes, and Maestro Lutz in particular is an extravert. It was not meant to be a negative criticism. Did you ignore the phrase 'good teachers'?
@@paulhwbooth well, the way I understand somebody being called a “show off” has negative connotations, such as being some sort of braggart, hence my response. If that was a misunderstanding on my part, which it seems to be, please accept my sincere apologies. Professor Lutz seems indeed an extrovert, which is precisely what makes this lecture even more enjoyable 🤗🤗

Thank you very much for the English subtitles - they are much appreciated!
Thank you so much for the English subtitles. I am very familiar with this cantata, but now I can appreciate its full profundity!

Thank you very much for the subtitles. Best analysis of bach’s cantatas I’ve ever seen

Danke. Nein, großartig.

Wonderful way to take a deep dive into where music and spirituality blend together. Thanks !

Ah, the works hop is even more interesting than the actual bwv 140. Great !
Thank you very much

I came here to see if he would play the 4th movement while singing, I wonder why nobody does it? Fantastic lecture though.

La Strada such a great movie
Soli Deo Gloria!
I imagine Bach associated 'mother's house' with his orphanhood, in my opinion.
C U L T U R A !
Good teachers tend to be show-offs?
