  • The Alaknanda is considered to rise at the confluence and foot of the Satopanth and Bhagirathi Kharak glaciers in Uttarakhand and meet the Saraswati River tributary at Mana, India, 21 km from Tibet. 3 km below Mana the Alaknanda flows past the Hindu pilgrimage centre of Badrinath.
While coming back from chakratirtha to Badrinath, instead of going through the usual route ( Chakratirtha - Shastra dhara - Chamtoli - Mata Murthy -Badrinath), we took a diversion from Shastra dhara. The diversion lead us to the origin of Alaknanda river.
Itinerary we followed: chakratirtha - Shastra dhara - Laxmi van - Vashu dhara - Mana - Badrinath
