    CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Michael (Jason Patric) is transfixed by Star (Jami Gertz) at a rocking beach party.
    FILM DESCRIPTION:
In this hit '80s hybrid of the horror movie and the teen flick, a single mom and her two sons become involved with a pack of vampires when they move into an offbeat Northern California town. Lucy (Dianne Wiest) and her sons, Michael (Jason Patric) and Sam (Corey Haim), move to Santa Carla to live with Lucy's lovable but curmudgeonly father (Barnard Hughes). Lucy gets a job from video-store owner Max (Edward Herrmann), then begins dating him, while Sam hangs out with Edward and Alan Frog (Corey Feldman and Jamison Newlander), a pair of vampire-obsessed comic-shop clerks. Soon Michael falls in with some actual vampires after becoming enamored of one of their victims: Star (Jami Gertz), a gypsy-like vixen who is trying to hold on to her humanity even though vampire leader David (Kiefer Sutherland) wants to play Peter Pan to her Wendy. When Michael visits the cavernous hangout of David and his cronies and unwittingly drinks from a wine bottle full of vampiric blood, he becomes an unwilling member of the bloodsucker biker gang. Soon, it's up to Sam and the Frog brothers to destroy David and his ilk without killing Michael and Star. Shot on location in the coastal California town of Santa Cruz and directed by Hollywood pro Joel Schumacher, The Lost Boys became a pop-culture phenomenon thanks to its attractive young stars, offbeat soundtrack, and hip, clever marketing campaign. The film's tagline -- "Sleep all day. Party all night. Never grow old. Never die. It's fun to be a vampire." -- perfectly captured its knowing mixture of attitude and gore. The effects team who transformed Sutherland and company into snarling bloodsuckers would go on to provide equally gruesome effects for Blade, another revisionist vampire flick, more than a decade later.

i think what it could be. is that many of us who feel this way were born in the 90's or early 2000's, and had parents who were born in the 60's, growing up in the 80's. So what it was, was as children, in the early 2000's, a lot of the 80's movies were being replayed on tv, and our parents who saw those movies growing up, watched them again because they saw them growing up.
And in doing so, they introduced us to them, so they became part of our childhood. So whenever we see movies like this, it reminds us of our child hood at the same time reminds us of another decade which those two have a powerful effect. So combined, the effect is breathtaking. I get the same feeling watching certain 80's movies especially Fright Night. It's pure magic, I tell you.

+shredmaster2009 I dunno the 80s kind of sucked ... Nintendo didn't come out until 1985, and it wasn't affordable until late 86 and into 1987. I remember Christmas of 87 it was practically impossible to find a Nintendo with Super Mario Bros and Duck Hunt combo. My brother and I pooled our resources and got one days before Christmas. Even still, Arcade cabinets were still far superior to anything at home. We got $5 between the both of us to get lunch, play arcade games, then biked back home. No iPods, no iPhones, no internet, no curfew... and somehow we managed to not die!

As a kid, living in the 80s was a special time. No cell phones, no internet, no social media. It was a time of mystery and adventure. No information was delivered instantly. If you wanted to know anything you had to go out and find it yourself. A true form of connection and communication. Not this bs crap we have today.

@OAT351 Screw you! First of all, what the hell was wrong with Reagan? He had the highest approval rating of any president in history, and he was certainly an improvement over Jimmy Carter. Second, please name me one decade that was some kind of utopia? No decade is perfect, but all those blemishes on the 80s that you just mentioned pale in comparison to the crap that happened in the 1960s and 70s, and the stuff that's happened in the 21st century is unquestionably worse. Only people like you care about that stuff you mentioned, but I think 9/11, Katrina, Iraq, the 2008 financial crisis, ISIS, Fast and Furious, IRS scandal, political correctness, and the coronavirus pandemic clearly indicate that the 80s were far better than today.

No but seriously I went to high school in the 80s and the hardest thing in the world is to get people to understand that life in the 80s as a teenager really was like this, everyday every night every event was like a John Hughes movie on steroids. So teens watch a scene like this today and think how cheesy I want to seem like this today and remember what it was like to see the girl of your dreams for the first time.

I just want to point out -- as an old-timer -- that vampire movies weren't cool when Lost Boys came out. Lost Boys should get some credit for that as well as melding teen rebellion into it. Those are cliches now, but not then. (Movie coulda tanked.) Then A.I.D.S. kicked in and vampire movies got popular again. (Martians = red scare of the 50s. VAmpires = AIDS scare of the 80s.)

Santa Cruz was awesome in those days. Still a nice place, but not nearly as carefree as it was in those days. With what it costs to live there now, thanks to all the Silicon Valley transplants that took over the area, you may as well just live in Monterey if you want to be in that part of the state. Much cleaner and safer. And far enough away from the SF Bay Area not to be overrun by it.

What ever happened to fun times like this? I remember growing up in the 90's humans were more social with one another and helped each other out. Everyone I knew back then was in shape because we had skating, karate class, and basketball. Sure, we still have that now but it was more of a cultural thing especially skating every Friday and Saturday. I remember going up to a girl and asking her to skate during couples only songs and after that you would get a slice of pizza and coke and talk with her - after that she would, if she liked you, would pull out a pen and write her name and number on your hand and you would do the same. I remember being up all night waiting by the telephone in the kitchen waiting for her call lol. Now everyone is caught up with their cell phones in public like a freaking robot. I feel bad for the kids of today because they didn't know what it was like to have to actually sit down and talk with people face to face to make friends. I miss the 90's!

Also, I was already an INXS fan from the early 80s and bought their album 'The Swing'... BUT... with this movie, what I think, hands down, it was INXS's *best* era for music with that classic "Death by stereo" song 'Good Times' plus their album 'Kick' where every single song on that 1987 album is a freaking gem. For me, there were no better bands at that time besides INXS and U2. There was good music, yeah. A song here and there. But full lit af albums had these 2 groups in a class all their own.
