Walking in Slad On a Sunny October Morning

  • Take a gentle and very slow walk with me in Slad, a small hillside village in the Cotswolds just a couple of miles from Stroud. Slad is of literary interest as the setting of Laurie Lee's most famous novel 'Cider With Rosie' (Lee was raised there) but, mainly, it's just a beautiful small village in the setting of the Slad Valley.
The view over the hillside with trees just starting to turn to autumnal shades, is spectacular but those things often don't show up so well in photographs and videos so you might have to take my word for it. I have been here often and there are about three different routes that could have been taken. For my fellow walking video-makers, there are more ways of seeing this very pretty village.
The pub was lively and the roads are often filled with hikers. People who love walking up and down hills are in their element in this part of the world. The hills are steep enough to get your blood pumping but rarely so steep that a wrong step might kill you.
So, for those who don't know Slad, here is a very small introduction. For those who do, a small reminder.

. Прогулка по лесу была чудесной. Приятно слушать естественные звуки, Здесь много очень хороших коттеджей и много зелени. Огромное спасибо за прекрасную экскурсию. А кладбище нам напоминают о бренности бытия.

Thank you so much. And you are right. We must experience all the beauty of this world for the time when we are here. And try to respond with kindness as you have in your message. Thank you so much.

Absolutely stunning work as always, Jago. I like the way you left two gaps of no music and when the final piano track came in, how beautiful was that! The tree at 21:15 really stood out from the crowd. Nicely done, it definitely left me wanting more! Thanks for sharing.

Thank you as always. Truth is, I tried it without music then I tried with all music... Neither really worked. I wish I had the foresight to know what's going to work before I start but everything takes umpteen goes for me. Every video starts out twice as long and gets edited down to a sliver of its former self because there's so much I don't notice while I'm shooting. People who clearly don't want to be on camera. Yelps that I didn't notice. The sound of a tractor or an industrial strength lawn mower. Military aeroplanes breaking the sound barrier for King and Country. I suspect this is why you often choose to shoot videos at the break of dawn. Get in before the traffic drowns out all else. But I feel quite fortunate to have found quite a lot of music which really helps to sell what I have filmed. So thanks again. And I am looking forward to the trees changing colour... I've seen a few but not so many.

Slad looks like a beautiful place to spend a day walking around. You had a wonderful day. I love the walk up the hill to the cemetery. It was very peaceful. The walk through the forest was wonderful. It is was nice to listen to the natural sounds, without the music and part with the music was quite nice too. There are many very nice cottages and lots of greenery. Thank you so much for a wonderful tour. I hope that you had a nice weekend. 😊

Thank you so much. It was a beautiful day. And I think the alternating works if the sounds are clear and natural. The music really kicks in when I get to the main road. I am very inspired by your way of putting videos together. The smooth and beautiful edits. At the moment, I have been doing mostly walking videos but I want to mix a few other ways of doing things in. While most of my videos are watched by very few people, it is the comments from the people that do watch and enjoy that keep me going.

@@jagoturner I always enjoy your videos. I have learned a lot from you and seen more of the country through you eyes.
I agree. It is always good to try new things. One idea that you might want to try is to write a script for some of places that you travel to. You could use your voice or an AI natural voice for the script, such as the Microsoft natural voices.
I don't know whether you are comfortable about getting in front of the camera, but that would really help to increase views.
There are many interesting things to try. If I can be of any help, please let me know.

@@purelysounds1 That is an excellent idea. I would have to pick up a brand new skill set there but I think it might be fun at some point in the future. It's important to keep trying new things. I have more time on my hands now than I did a couple of months back so it would be the best time to give something new a try.
