One idea I thought was interesting was Madame Hydra being Jessica Drew's mother, mentioned in Spider-Woman Vol. 1 42-44. But then in Captain America Vol. 1 281 it was revealed that Viper was under the spell of Morgan le Fay and Chthon. In Avengers vol.4 #22 Jessica called Viper "mum", either just to humor her, or that Madame Hydra was like a surrogate mother towards Jessica during her Hydra years.
I like how Jessica's origins ties together so many different parts of Marvel. An enclave of scientist that includes her father, Warren, and HiEvolutionary. Living at Mount Wondergore, Puppet Master, Shield and Hydra and Taskmaster, you even had time to mention an Iron Man Rouge in there. Whiplash.
Great subject! For older readers, a major problem was that we mourned her death in the Avengers. Then somehow she was back. This is going to be informative.
I’ve heard while reading the New Avengers series that Spider-Woman is one of Brian Bendis’ favourite characters. I don’t blame him after reading things with her.
Recently saw she had connections to Wolverine in Madripoor. With a full fledged Wo game coming out, I think it would be an amazing gameplay change up if they let us play as Jessica in that game. 2 playable heroes. 1 Wolverine. 1 Spider Woman. Although I would want it to be a solely Wolverine story with maybe some Spider gameplay sprinkled in there.
your're forgetting that the high evolutionary made multiple clones of jessica's parents, wouldn't be too much of a stretch to say he did the same for ottto vermis
I seriously hate when new writers feels so arrogant that they can just completely ignore history and change anything they feel like because it doesn't "fit the story they want to tell". If your story doesn't work with established history / lore, then your story sucks and needs to be reworked. That is not to say that all new writers are trash, not at all. More that they are lazy and or, as I said previously, arrogant. There was literally NO REASON to attempt to re-write the history of Jessica Drew, to make it seem as if the High Evolutionary doesn't exist (which he very clearly DOES EXIST), to change the New-Men into just normal people or to make normal scientist into willful collaborators of Hydra. None of these changes do any good for the character, in fact they are not only worse for Jessica they are worse for every single character involved. It makes her parents worse. It makes the High Evolutionary worse (and I love the way he was portrayed in the original origin of Jessica Drew). Literally every single person comes out looking worse and for what purpose, because the new writer was to arrogant to change his precious story to fit into established lore? You cannot even claim ignorance because he clearly showed that he was aware of the original story with the illusions shown clearly calling back to the original story. It was just pure arrogance that he felt that his story was so superior to what already existed that he just HAD to change 30+ years of history at that point in time without any care for the work already put in by every single writer and artist which came before him.

Personally, I prefer the revamped version because it's a bit less convoluted and confusing. Although, if I were to make up my own version of Jessica's origin I think I would at least try to fit some ideas from the original version in there somewhere.
It isn't less convoluted. Wundagore Mountain is a very important place in the 616. Just Bova being human has far rippling effects on other stories going all the way back to the 60's. One of the main problems I have with a lot of Marvel retcons is that they don't streamline things, instead the changes just further confuses things.
How's Jessica Drew Spider Woman different from the other Spider people? How come she has electrical abilities like Miles Morales Spider-Man? What do you think Jessica Drew Spider Woman would be like if she worked with the High Evolutionary?
This is proof that writing at Marvel has completely atrophied and, in this case, the art. A totally unnecessary bland, tasteless and dull retelling of her TRUE origin (but told wrong and without any emotional attachment) This is why _current_ Marvel is such a joke when compared to _past_ Marvel. You have to read "in the past" to get the _REAL_ Marvel experience. \m/
I was wondering from the spiderverse movie, then was like guess they took some creative liberties, then was like glad they did cause this character seems hella boring

One of the main problems I have with a lot of Marvel retcons is that they don't streamline things, instead the changes just further confuses things.
@@darksaint0124 I know what you mean. In any case I was only stating my personal opinion. So let us simply agree to disagree.
How's Jessica Drew Spider Woman different from the other Spider people? How come she has electrical abilities like Miles Morales Spider-Man?
What do you think Jessica Drew Spider Woman would be like if she worked with the High Evolutionary?
One thing I didn’t like about ATSV is that they made her black. Honestly Stop race swapping characters Hollywood it’s annoying.
Why is the art in the 2005 story SO BAD
In my mind, the only Canon is the cartoon. anything else is a little bit too far-fetched
This looks like a very bad manwha the fuck happened at marvel in that time😭😭😭
I was wondering from the spiderverse movie, then was like guess they took some creative liberties, then was like glad they did cause this character seems hella boring
The artwork of the comics from this millennium is awful. It looks like WikiHow artwork.
I hate retcons. Marvel and DC have ruined many character origins. These newer writers are arrogant, condescending and think the readers are stupid.
Jessica is one of the oldest superheroes, by age.
