WELL DONE! I wish The MCU had kept the Howling Commandos the way the cannon had them as! MCU really dropped the ball on this one. Great job on telling us the history of Nick Fury and the Howling Commandos!
In the early - mid nineties Keith Giffen and Paco Medina had Sgt.Rock leading Suicide Squad (while Amanda Waller was operating behind the scenes…as usual) that iteration of the Squad was what I affectionately call a “wood chipper” comic (at least 3/4 of whatever team was operating met untimely demises .) And at the time that comic came out I would say with this buddy of mine I used to work with “Marvel should have Nick Fury lead an iteration of The Thunderbolts (I called Freedom Force) with D list Marvel villains put in the same situation that that version of Suicide Squad put in (Pitch: the Carrot: Early Parole by going on missions as apart of Freedom Force, those missions have a high likelihood of untimely ends, and if said villain gets lucky and survives, then they get to keep going on missions until they get “unlucky”. It’s like playing black jack and saying “Hit me”… and you have two kings showing. It’s like playing Russian roulette…with a bullet in every chamber, and the only hope for survival is the revolver jamming). I would have had Nick Fury working with Diamondback, USAgent (who was paralyzed during the nineties fight a crazed prototype Captain America called Protocide) Hiram Ridley (sarcastic Computer hacker covering Freedom Force’s tracks, and DumDum Duggan. Those would have been Nick Fury’s new Howlers, however Nick Fury and DumDum would have been surrounded by people that operated by using unethical means (USAgent), and methods (Diamondback, Ram Ridley) to wage war, with no hill to be taken, and no clean victory to be had. If Marvel released that comic during the 90’s -early 2000s it could have done well, but Marvel didn’t. Funny enough in 2004 or 2005 Warren Ellis took over Thunderbolts and put people like Bullseye, Venom, a PTSD addled Robbie Baldwin, and an unhinged Norman Osborn on the roster, and the rest was history.
Nick Fury & The Howling Commandos were one of my favorite Marvel Comics in the 1960s... alongside the Incredible Hulk.. Fantastic Four... Avengers..X Men..& of course Spider Man...I loved the back history of Nick Fury & how he went on to become the leader of SHIELD.. including the explanation of how Fury never aged due to the Infinity Formula! Anyways great video brother.. looking forward to more of your Marvel Comics histories 👑
However the sad part was all of Nick Fury’s comrades turned out to be LMDs (some of them didn’t really know they were LMDs {see: DumDum Duggan, and Val DeFontaine})
I really enjoy this video because this team of amazing men shows that you don't need masks or powers to be a hero. Hopefully in the future this channel can show more other WWII stories that were shown in Marvel comic books.
One of my favourite parts of John Byrne's Batman/Captain America teamup series during the war was a teamup between the Howlers and Sgt Rock's Easy Company. Comics' greatest war heroes, together in one adventure! Even though it was only a few panels, it was great.
Thank you so much man. I’ve always loved the commandos. Seeing them age was a kick in the gut. No one ever ages in Marvel except their soldiers it seems. Bro don’t I know it
Hello there Merry Marvelite and fellow community members. First, I just wanted to say that I do hope that everyone has had or is having a wonderful holiday season. Second, I just wanted to say that this new video was absolutely awesome and the information that came out of it was just fantastic. Definitely a great piece of marvelous history on this day, when Mr. Marvel, himself was born. Hope that everyone in this great community has a terrific new year and may it be bright for all. Until next, Peace Out. Plus Ultra And Above All Excelsior.
We need Nick Fury Action Figures. I'm Fudging a Nick Fury Jr ' NEW' Howling Commando's with Alternates, Valaverse, etc., as was one of the Original ideas for the rerelease of the G.I. Joe line. There were even ideas for Destro to appear in Agents of SHIELD comics before joining Cobra I believe. Of course Duke replaced Fury Jr.
All right ya goldbricks were gonna take this video fast and hard. WAHHOOOO! A group of 12 prisoners recruited into their own special military unit. Sounds like a basis for a good movie:)
Wow!! Didn't know that they had lots of adventures. So they were the ones that first fought Zemo and Strucker. Disappointing that they didn't fight along side James Howlet who would become Wolverine.
Something little different this week. A non-costumed hero. How about a video on my favorite multiversal immigrant to the 616, RACHEL SUMMERS. As always, MAKE MINE THE MERRY MARVELITE!!!!
Dum Dum Dugan is my favourite character ⭐ He's strong will and undoubtable Warrior fun fact he and Fury are The only Member of H.C that are still alive also Dugan is running a new H.C that's Composed of Monsters
Remind me of me two other brothers I'm in the middle as a little kid I used to run the streets with other a shirt and shoes like a little-werewolf just to fast as a little blackdude Boston Massachusetts Dorchester
Incorrect! You don’t read, or know canon! Original Nick Fury, is Senior and his son Nick Fury Junior (the black guy) in the 616. In the ultimate universe Nick Fury is black and based off of Sam Jackson.
Sgt fury is great till they leave ww2, thats when silly stupid hits all of them. The L.M.D of Dum Dum Dugan made me so mad. Not to mention turning nick fury evil and making him the new watcher....ooooooh im so digusted.
A valiant group of racially integrated soldiers who fought on the frontlines during World War 2 alongside James Howlett (who would one day join the X-Men), and the Invaders (a team made of Captain America, Bucky, Namor, the original Human Torch, and Toro the Flame Kid) decades before the Marvel Age of Heroes would arrive. I have respect for Nick Fury and his Howling Commandos, and even though they passed away (save for Nick Fury who took the Infinity Formula and became not only a super spy, but a director of S.H.I.E.L.D. before passing the torch to his African-American son), their legacy, their heroism, and their courage will be remembered for years to come...especially during the Marvel Age of Heroes (beginning with the Fantastic Four, the Avengers, the X-Men, Spider-Man, the Inhumans, the Defenders, Heroes for Hire, Legion of Monsters, Midnight Sons, and the Guardians of the Galaxy).
NOBODY CONNECTS THE MARVEL UNIVERSE TOGETHER LIKE MERRY MARVELITE .. WHICH IS WHY THIS CHANNEL IS 'EXCELSIOR' ..
Hey think you can make this into a parody of Gaston?
But that is good that you said that
@@popculturefanxxi4391I'd gladly sing on that cover!

Early 1970s I Loved Reading Sgt. Fury for Fun & Sgt. Rock for Reality.

Such a great series - best WWII comic EVER!!!!
Right up there with Sgt Rock, by Joe Kubert, and Russ Heath
While watching this, all I can think is "What if we got a 'Howling Commandos' movie, in the vein of 'Inglorious Basterds'?"
I really enjoy this video because this team of amazing men shows that you don't need masks or powers to be a hero. Hopefully in the future this channel can show more other WWII stories that were shown in Marvel comic books.

Thanks for posting! Used to enjoy reading the howling commandos!

Thanks for the recap ... love this team but never really got their whole history.
They have appeared in some of the Marvel cartoons
Cool, I know the story of the Howling Commandos. Thanks, MM. I think I'll see if I can find a few issues.
A comedy duo named Jerry and Dino. I see what they did there. I wonder if they had LMDs named Sammy and Duke.

Stan Lee's birthday 🎂😢❤
Klaw's dad was a nazi!? Well that explains a lot
Klaw was also Afrikaans from South Africa so…that would make sense
What ah storyline..great retelling bahvo bahvo..
I read a bit of this series and it was pretty great I wouldn't be surprised if jack kirby had something to do with it
Excellent job . Wish you'd do dc❤😂
All right ya goldbricks were gonna take this video fast and hard. WAHHOOOO!
A group of 12 prisoners recruited into their own special military unit. Sounds like a basis for a good movie:)
0:56 It's the Yancy Street sign!!!
I hope that there’ll eventually be a video on Clay Quartermain
Can You do the History and Origin of the Incredible Hulk
How about a video about the Monster version of the Howling Commandos led by Dum Dum Dugan?
Do One On The Punisher
I happily reiterate: This channel is like watching The Official Handbook Of The Marvel Universe¡
If you think hearing a computer read a handbook is appealing... theirs keeps getting just worse... I would rather read it
Poor guy got the firing squad for being afraid. Ouch.
Wow!! Didn't know that they had lots of adventures. So they were the ones that first fought Zemo and Strucker. Disappointing that they didn't fight along side James Howlet who would become Wolverine.
hell yeah
"B52 BombeEeEeEeEer" *said in a robotic voice* lmao
Any chance you could do some Marvel Westerns ?
I'm interested in the histories of
Ghost Rider
Black Rider
Two Gun Kid
Outlaw Kid
asking for crime master
The history of hydra, please.
Rip stan Lee 😢❤
Do Sgt. Rock & Easy Company.
Aha! So it was the infinity formula that eventually turned Nick Fury Black! That was an unexpected side effect.
Something little different this week. A non-costumed hero.

Agent 13 Sharon Carter meet the howling commandos.

TALK ABOUT REDDWYN AND MARVEL G.O.D.S
Remind me of me two other brothers I'm in the middle as a little kid I used to run the streets with other a shirt and shoes like a little-werewolf just to fast as a little blackdude Boston Massachusetts Dorchester
Too bad none of this means anything anymore since they made Nick Fury, African American.
To be fair that version of fury came from the ultimate universe not the 616 universe which is described here.
Incorrect! You don’t read, or know canon! Original Nick Fury, is Senior and his son Nick Fury Junior (the black guy) in the 616. In the ultimate universe Nick Fury is black and based off of Sam Jackson.
Ghost rider pls
He already did that
It reminds me of a piece of shrapnel that Hits tony stark's heart then after that he became iron Man 😂❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😂😂😂
Similarly happens to Slade Wilson when he gets shot in left eye 👁️ by a woman ❤❤❤❤😂😂❤❤
Wait…you’re telling me Fury was originally a white heterosexual misogynist? 😂
And he smoked Cuban cigars like a chimney, until Joe Quesada issued that Marvel characters could smoke 🙄
Sgt fury is great till they leave ww2, thats when silly stupid hits all of them. The L.M.D of Dum Dum Dugan made me so mad. Not to mention turning nick fury evil and making him the new watcher....ooooooh im so digusted.
Comics have been woke
